The vets here seem to genuinely care for animals. My pets also aren't terrified when I come to pick them up either. It *is* rather expensive here. Though, I'd say my biggest complaint is that when I've gone in the staff at the front desk all seem to be oblivious, misinformed or brand new. When I asked questions about the treatments my dog had been prescribed the staff member I was talking to had to go and ask the vet for the answers twice. The woman standing next to me talking to the other staff member had to wait for FOUR separate trips to the back door staff to ask the vet. I would tend to think all that information would be in the vet's notes about the appointment so they could easily check. You need to make sure your pet has their collar too when you pick them up. They've forgotten to put it back on before and I've left it there and had to make another trip. Even with my complaints though, I *DO* recommend this vet. read more

The staff was nice, but it's clear now why the person checking out at the front desk spent so much time setting up a payment plan. They do not inform you what they're going to do to your pet, they just do it. I took my cat in the other day because he was injured, they didn't tell me about the same day fee. They told me they were taking him for an xray. When they called me back they had *already given him an injection* as well as done the xray, and also gave him another medication that has warnings on it about use in cats with kidney failure. Bellingham Veterinary Review * On SATURDAY, MARCH 28, 2026, my neutered male cat was vomiting small amounts of wetness, retching, and not eating, drinking, nor using the litter box. * On SUNDAY, MARCH 29, 2026, I read after 24 hours of the forementioned, the condition was considered an emergency. * I called our regular feline veterinarian specialist, but the clinic was closed on Sunday. * I did not call the recommended emergency number. My folly. * I called Bellingham Veterinary, 720 Virginia, Bellingham, Washington and was able to make an emergency appointment as it is open on Sundays. * We checked in and waited 30 minutes for a room. * We waited 40 minutes in our given room. * The vet rushed into our room. * He glanced at my cat inside his carrier and never took him out to examine his body. His vitals were not taken. I repeat, there was no physical examination made. * The vet asked several questions regarding possible trouble-causing ingestions such as plastic. * I responded that my cat might have ingested shredded cardboard. * The vet said an x-ray should be taken, followed by barium and successive x-rays to determine if a suspected blockage could be moved. The procedure would take several hours. * We went home and waited for a report. * I was told there was a blockage with a sharp edge and something dangling in the esophagus near the stomach and overnight monitoring would be best. The barium had not flowed into the stomach. The desire was for the barium to move the blockage through the digestive system. * MONDAY MORNING, MARCH 30, 2026, emergency surgery to remove the immobile blockage was recommended. I agreed. * We were told the surgery was successful. The (immobile?) blockage had been in my cat's stomach near the small intestines. The blockage was lavender curling ribbon. After two hours of recovery, I could take my cat home. * We were told anti-inflammatory pills would be sent home with us to manage pain. * I asked if there was a liquid alternative. The vet would be asked. * After waiting for about fifteen minutes, we were told an anti-inflammatory injection had been substituted and would offer pain relief for an extended time. * I requested blood work results and was told everything was normal other than an expected high blood glucose level and something else I can't remember that was abnormal but of no concern. * My cat roamed the house the remainder of the day and into the night, rising, and lying down in in many locations, obviously extremely uncomfortable post-op. * On MONDAY, MARCH 30, 2026, a technician from Chuckanut Feline Center, 1214 Dupont Street, Bellingham, Washington, our normal business of feline specialist health care, returned my emergency calls to check on my cat. The office had received a report from Bellingham Veterinary stating my cat had had abdominal surgery. That's all. * Bellingham Veterinary was contacted by Chuckanut Feline Center for a full report. * On TUESDAY MORNING, MARCH 31, 2026, I was contacted by Chuckanut Feline Center asking about my cat's condition post-op. He hadn't eaten, drank water, used the litter box and was hiding. * An emergency appointment was made for that morning. * Bellingham Veterinary had not given my cat any pain relief medication during nor after surgery. NONE. * An opioid pain reliever was immediately given to my cat at Chuckanut Feline Center and he visibly relaxed, stretching out his front paw. * The blood work showed abnormal gall bladder and liver function that had not been reported to me by Bellingham Veterinary. I had been given misinformation or was it disinformation? * I was informed the anti-inflammatory injection that was credited for lasting extended time to offer ongoing pain relief only lasts for about 24 hours. * An antibacterial injection was administered as my cat had a fever indicating the possibility of an infection. * He was subcutaneously rehydrated and was administered nutrition. * The feline veterinarian specialist stressed pain management as first priority, food intake as second priority. I was to administer the opioid twice daily for three days and offer everything my cat normally ate. The office is busier than anything I've ever seen and I believe that is the reason for the negative ratings. Yes you will often have to wait long times but you are getting life saving treatments from a man that is using cutting edge technology that you won't find anywhere else in America. For that I will wait, especially since our dog has Lymphoma and we want her in our lives as long as possible. We travel for over 22 hours to get to Bellingham and its worth every minute of the drive. So for those of you complaining that your cat spade took so long, be thankful you have a quality hospital that is there for you. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAT HERE! MEDICAL MALPRACTICE!!! I was desperate to help fix my cat's stomach issues, and Bellingham Vet was the only vet with open availability (now I see why). I brought him in for a checkup and immediately was given multiple possible reasons why he could be having these issues. I was told that they would test him for constipation and do a urine analysis (both of which they did not do!). they had me check off boxes on a clipboard during the visit, and one of the boxes I checked was "CALL ME FOR PERMISSION TO DO SURGERY". They told me they needed to take him in the back for all the tests and they would call me when he needed to be picked up. They never called me, so I had to call them about 6 hours later, and when I went to go pick up my cat, not only had they done invasive surgery on him without asking, they also diagnosed him with something entirely different then what they told me earlier. Something that I am not even sure he even had to begin with considering it did not fix a single issue that I had brought him in for (infact, it just created more issues!) I brought my cat home with an open wound, THAT THEY CREATED, in which the bellingham vet staff had no idea how to help with (I asked in person and also called, and each staff member had an entirely different set of instructions. They don't communicate with eachother at all!). They also gave my cat a painkiller called zorbium green (which although is FDA approved, is known for causing serious adverse effects). my cat was basically listless for a week straight, he was paranoid and couldn't sleep or eat. I wish they could have asked me about it so I could have opted for a gentler option. Because of Bellingham vet's terrible service, I had to take my cat to ANOTHER vet so I could get medicine to care for this new surgery wound and try and find help for his stomach issues. Because of these new issues that Bellingham vet created, my cat had to be on SEVEN different medications. Overall, Bellingham vet cost me money and time that resulted in no help whatsoever. They broke my trust in their care. They cost my cat weeks of unneeded pain. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAT HERE! Take them to village vet or chuckanut feline center instead! I had to take my kitty in a couple months ago for an emergency urinary blockage, and Bellingham Vet was suggested to me by an acquaintance and was about the only vet open. I took him in, and the lady behind the counter (I believe Judy is her name) was so kind. I was crying and stressed, worried about Gryffin (my kitty, I've been worried about urinary issues the whole time I've had him and his brother), but she was so sweet, reassuring me he was in good hands, that I'd done the right thing and got him in in time. He had to be kept overnight, but the next morning I called for an update and she was so nice again, walked back to check on him while on the phone with me, and was just overall amazing. Despite living further away, I switched both Gryffin and his brother Dragon's records here, as I am thoroughly impressed with them (more so than I ever was at Nooksack Vet). The payment plan is also a plus, as I'm a full time worker and student who doesn't have a whole lot all at once, so being able to pay the bill off bit by bit has been a huge weight off my shoulders. read more

Overall, what a terrible experience! My poor pup was there overnight 24 hours in total. I had to personally call over five times to get updates on how my dog was doing. They never found the problem to why my dog was experiencing such pains and the front office could never keep me updated. Even after saying they would call in the morning to give me updates. They never did. There is an extreme disconnect between the front office and the vets. For them to send my dog home with some antibiotics, they charged me over $1000 for the tests and the overnight stay. I am so extremely disappointed. Do not take your pet here! read more

We live in Oregon and we drive to Bellingham to see Ed for cancer treatments. This should say a lot. I have yet to find a vet that commits as much time to other peoples pets then Ed. If you have an emergency he will find a way to fit you in. He works insane hours and is committed to helping your furry companion the best he can. I had a terrible experience with this business!! I made an appointment with Bellingham Veterinary to get my Cat his updated rabies shot June 10th. The appointment was at 11:00 AM. I arrived a few minutes early and I filled out the necessary paperwork and was put in an exam room by the Male receptionist who told me DR.Sullivan would be in shortly. I waiteed 45 Min. before going out and askintg the Male receptionist how much longer I had to wait. His reponse was: "He hasn't seen you yet let me see what is going on" So I went back into the exam room and waited another 5 minutes. This time when when I came out out I said I just need a rabies shot can't a Tech give it and the receptionist said no the Vet had to give it and he wasn't there. I ask, Why Wasn't any one communicating with me Then I said was he there when I checked in and the recptionist said no!!! I was so mad and asked why wasn't I told and why did they leve me sit. This vet clinic, IMO, should be closed for malpractice. They almost killed my lovely dog because of her probable uti. I am still horrified by them. It was admitted by their tech they gave her an additional dose of sedative instead of the antidote. After getting her home, she became comatose. I could not revive her, so I called several times. Two techs came out that evening to administer it. She then became responsive. I've been back and forth with them, emailing and phoning, and Dr. Sullivan, owner, was never informed by the tech I sedated her prior to coming in. They have refused to credit my deposit because they have made all types of excuses for their almost deadly mistake. I'm filing a complaint with the Veterinary Board of Governors. They are horrible, to say the least. Their communication with each other is obviously non-existent. The worst clinic I have ever taken any of my fur babies to! I NEVER received an apology from them. Bellingham Veterinary has been treating our animals for years and years. The people here have been everything you could hope for. Their compassion when our cat was sick for years on and off and everything they did when he was finally dying is something I'll never forget. They do amazing programs like blood donation which helps dogs and cats all over while also providing you with some free vaccinations, flee medication, and discounts is fantastic. We even ended up getting a cat here that they found and nursed back to health at their own cost after it had been run over. I just can't say enough good things for this vet! read more

I cannot express how much we love this vet! Our cat absolutely loves going here and gets excited when he recognizes the parking lot. They are always kind and try to find ways to cut costs for pet owners who are going through hard situations. They also have a blood bank that offers significantly cheaper treatment after donations from your animal. They are so kind to my cat and all have such lovely things to say, even if he's having a particularly tough medical journey during a given week. I previously have gone to fairhaven vet for years for my 2 older dogs. Fairhaven prides themselves on being "fear free" when really that just means they push medication for your pets. I was in quite a pickle and needed some vaccines done for both my dogs very quickly. Bellingham vet was so accommodating, did the vaccines and exams for both dogs at the same time. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. They helped my nervous dog get through the process very quickly rather than prolonging it and pushing meds. Then it turned out they also gave my cat an injection that wasn't even discussed and tried to get me to ok it after the fact. The response to my complaints about this malpractice was simply to say (literally) "oops that's our bad." There was zero recognition of the fact both of these acts are serious breaches of medical practice and ethics, and even less concern that they represent serious flaws in the operation of the practice needing to be examined and a process put in place to prevent these errors. I'm writing a Yelp review not to be a Karen, but as a general curtesy to anyone going to this vet. Also, I hope the staff might implement some changes. Several other recent reviews say similar things to what I experienced. You have to ask ALL the questions you wouldn't think you'd have to ask. They put my dog under anesthesia and did x-rays without my consent. I was waiting out in the parking lot for a doctor consult, as she was being treated without me knowing what was up. That was infuriating. The communication was just poor overall. They gave her a pain pill in the back, but sent me out the door with directions to start them when I get home. I'm glad I clarified whether or not they had given her one. I do want to give a big shout out to Ian for generally helping ease my frustration. He was generally caring and attentive and sorta took charge. Dr. Sullivan did offer some good advice, but I should have received it before they went ahead and PUT HER UNDER. On another note, I did have a good experience the first time I brought her in to get spayed. I'm not sure where the communication breakdown is happening. They tried to get my fiancé to buy "veterinary recommended" food claiming the dog had something wrong with his urine. I read over the analysis and there was nothing wrong. I emailed asking what they saw that justified us switching the high quality food to trashing science diet? They NEVER responded. They also never gave us other results and charged twice. Claimed they didn't get payment. The front desk employee was SOO rude and awful. I told my fiancé not to go there but he was desperate to get in somewhere same day. What decent vet is able to get anyone in same day for a non emergency?!? He should have listened. We have switched vets and everything is great per usual. Stay clear of this place! We took our new puppy to Bham Vet twice and were unhappy with the service and care both times. 1) Waited an hour to be seen both times 2) Vet told us to do an $80 stool culture for no apparent reason (pup wasn't having diarrhea). No explanation and when I questioned the front desk about it they seemed confused (which itself was odd, shouldn't they know if this is standard practice?) 3) Vet recommended negative reinforcement when we mentioned some tension between our puppy and our 7 yr old 4) Failed to offer Bordatella vaccine even though pup was eligible, which meant we had to schedule an extra visit (though we are going to a new vet for that and for future care) 5) Push products a lot, including pet insurance that doesn't cover preventive care Needless to say, we have a new vet now and cannot recommend Bham Vet to anyone. read more

PLEASE READ!! My 7 month old French bulldog had not been eating and was vomiting for a couple weeks. I called and Dr. Sullivan had said I could just drop him off after work. I waited for 3 hours until they closed for them to tell me they were going to keep him over night to do more X-rays and other tests in the morning. I was so stressed and upset to the point my own health was at risk. They didn't call me the following day with an update and when I had called they said he ate a fabric and should pass it on his own and charged me almost $900. A week later my dog still hadn't improved. I called a different vet to get a second opinion and they took him right in without an appointment or anything (I was desperate.) They did X-rays and blood work and said he was constipated and backed up to his stomach and they would need to clear his stomach out and he should be back to normal. When picked him up I could tell he was feeling much better. They sent him home with anti-nausea pills for a few days and only charged me a little over $600. Thank god I trusted my gut and called a different vet. I know there are so many positive reviews but honestly I don't think I'll go back to this vet. Dr. Sullivan did nothing for my dog and charged me so much money. read more

I called again, due to not receiving my records and wanting her name...SHE HUNG UP ON ME 3 DIFFERENT TIMES!!!! this is incredibly unprofessional and the most rude service i have ever seen in my life. This place is the absolute worst in customer service, and they will also put your animal under sedation without authorization and charge you an astronomical price for a nail trim. Dr Rybka is the most comprehensive, competent Veterinarian I have depended on for all my animal needs. I have a considerable zoo at home with some special needs cats, dogs and ferrets. She takes her time to explain all the different options I may have as well as the cost of those options. She is well versed in homeopathic as well as main stream medicine. I am especially grateful for her calm and direct guidance. Although I have had some rare symptoms in one of my cats she has done above and beyond all diagnostics to find and treat my young cat. I thank her for loving her profession and showing kindness and care as if they were her own to all my fur babies. read more

This establishment is a scam by design. We took our dog in for a simple check up and were charged for blood test and urine samples that we nerver approved. When we asked for the charges to be reversed we were told they had been. When in fact, that was a lie. Dr. Ed is a greedy man, that chooses to do business in a disrespectful and dishonest way. Not transparent, disorganized, and greedy. We have Been taking our dog to this vet for over a decade and they have always been overpriced for the care she has received. The bills have also been questionably large. Just recently we received a bill for over $450, $350 of it was for a blood draw with just 3 tests (non of which we authorized, and our pet was only seen for a few hours for a flair-up of a previously diagnosed disease). To which they could not figure out how they did it. The receptionist even left the front desk to call and ask how it had happened. I brought my 16 1/2 year old dog to this clinic last week because he had stopped eating and was drinking an excessive amount of water. Over the phone I was told he'd be a drop off and they'd get to him when they had time. I've done this before at other clinics and they usually got back to me in a couple hours tops. He was dropped off at 9am. When I didn't hear anything from them around 12pm, I called and they said they hadn't got to him yet but they were about to start on him. 330pm came so I called again, was told they still haven't gotten to him. 530pm finally got a call saying he has kidney failure and they're keeping him overnight to give him fluids and antibiotics. Was told they'd check his kidney levels again the next day at noon and someone would call me. 1pm the next day, no phone call. So I reached out to them. They said they didn't get to him yet but were about to and someone would call me in 30-60 minutes. I waited on pins and needles. No one called. I called back at 3. Still didn't have results. I ended going to the clinic to sit there until I got someone to give me my dog and talk to me. I've been dealing with this clinic for a week with this situation. Everyday someone would tell me they would call me or give me copies of his results and they wouldn't. They almost never answer their phone. So sitting in the waiting room is basically the only way to get them to talk to you. Nothing is explained when it comes to tests or the bill. I saw on my bill they did two urinalysis. One was $240. No one called me with the results. I called and asked about it and the girl said it was negative for bacteria, that's all the info she had. I asked for the doctor to call me and he didn't. No one did. My dog was taking oral antibiotics but didn't know what for. I called and asked if there's no bacteria, should I stop the antibiotics. No one called. Called again this morning to demand answers and was told they call me back. Surprisingly, someone did and they said to stop giving him the antibiotics. I've left out a lot of other frustrating things I endured during the week. I don't recommend this clinic. The lack of communication on their end is frustrating, and the waiting for answers you'll endure will be stressful. They don't care about the pets owner(s) and I have my suspicion they don't really care about their pets either. They just want money which is why I believe they don't turn any animal away. Even when they are clearly overwhelmed. This has been the worst experience I've had with a veterinary clinic. read more

Took in my cat for an initial check up. Went to a room and waited there for 30 minutes, which wasn't horrible as I get places can unexpectedly get busy. They took my cat into a different room and gave her flea treatment, but said they couldn't express her glands because it was too difficult for one person. I don't take my cat into a vet to have them partially check her out. They seemed understaffed, and the whole thing was impersonal.
