Would give negative five stars if possible. My dog died due to their incompetance. She was shaking her head, and seemed like she was in pain for a year, I took her in repeatedly and was told nothing was wrong. I knew there was something wrong. It just kept getting worse, finally they said she was in major pain, I knew that, and that she should be put down there and then. Then they didnt give her enough of the drug... We were with her, her last moments were horrible. I will never forgive them for essentially killing her. Also you might want to know about one of the owners addiction to veterinary drugs - reported on in the Bellingham Herald. I was heartbroken to loose my best friend. She had something wrong in her head, I think may have been treatable when I first started bringing her in. read more

The front desk employees are terrible. So is their manager. Very rude, and very entitled. So for my first visit they made me sit in the waiting room with other people, dogs, and kids as my dog was having cluster seizures. They said I needed to fill out paperwork first. Even though they already had all the information. Instead of taking me to a room, and letting me fill it out there. Then during both phone calls I made about my dogs prescriptions the office workers were blatantly disrespectful both times. Don't forget the $20 minimum on $5 prescriptions. What does that mean? Your $5 prescription will cost $25...cause tax...or whatever other reason their desk workers make up. Now for the actual Vet? Dr. Dave? Right. So if your Vet doesn't tell you that they want you to alter how you give your dog medication, who would you say is at fault for that? The patient for not knowing, or the Dr for not saying anything? Well to the Front Desk it's your fault for being too stupid to be able to read minds. On top of that they will try to send your prescription that is so large it is basically impossible to fill to the pharmacy, but again...as a patient you're just too stupid to understand how beneficial that is to you. To add insult to injury this is one of those Mom n Pops, and it turned out to be the type of establishment that uses that title to take advantage of peoples kindness. read more

I've been bringing my dogs here since 1995 or so when it was just Max and Todd. It's a haul for me to get there so eventually I tried other vets closer to where I work, but ultimately I've returned to Fountain for our dog's needs. I don't have much experience with the other docs there, mostly just Todd. Year after year, he continues to provide the care we are looking for. This March will mark 20 years of my bringing my dogs here for care! As far as I'm concerned, Dr Todd Perry is THE best vet in the Bham area and Dr Pete is a close second. And here's why: In late November, my dog Weeya suddenly became very, very sick; the Emergency clinic on Meridian was totally inept ((see my review)) and after their discouragement of care, it was a long scary night until Fountain opened and I brought her in unannounced; they squeezed her in, thankfully, because as I found out later (thanks to Dr Google LOL) she could have died if she'd gone much longer without care. (And the Emergency clinic receptionist that discouraged me said my dog wasn't an emergency) It wasn't immediately clear what was wrong with my dog besides an almost fatal fever and lethargy (no vomiting, diarrhea etc) but Dr Todd did a blood test, and based on the results gave her medications and told me to return in 2 days for a recheck. Gonna condense my story by saying it took a bit to discover my dog had gotten a bacterial infection from some salmon (which I had never heard of! See my screenshots below) but within a couple days of the antibiotics she was WAY better, as of today it's like she never got sick at all. Something else worth mentioning is, never have any of the fine vets at Fountain tried to add any unnecessary tests. During this ordeal, I had gone to Maplewood for a followup blood test because they're around the corner from me and etc... and while they're super nice people, instead of the plain CBC I wanted, they urged me to get a more expensive blood test, and really tried to sell me on a procedure of injecting saline under my dog's skin that "may help" with her recurring fever. So. Anyway. Okay, so basically Fountain is ~~the best~~ veterinary clinic in Bellingham!! read more

I really like this place. Another vet in town wouldn't do a simple gland express without sedating my 7 lb Chihuahua! The Fountain Doc had the job done before she even noticed. I would give them 5 stars except for the really unfortunate carpet throughout the office and the fact that when I brought said Chihuahua in with a minor complaint and because of her constant cough and gagging, the vet said she had a strong heart and perhaps a collapsed esophagus. Turns out she had an enlarged heart and lungs filled with fluid. That was kind of a big miss, but I'm glad we didn't know. She died recently, and her last year was not filled with medications she wouldn't take and too much stress on us both. read more

I love coming here with my two dogs. I have been seeing Dr. Todd for about 4 years now on and off. He is like an animal whisperer! Always pleasant to speak with, and has never given me anything for my pups that was unnecessary. We went in for a teeth cleaning once, and he notice a lump on my dogs foot and immediately x-rayed it because he didn't notice it last visit. The fact that he took action to make sure it wasn't something serious was awesome. The wait can be a little less than ideal, my appt doesn't always run "on time" but that is ok knowing the care my pups are getting. read more

She also refused to wear a mask during my dogs appointment, despite my asking her multiple times to wear one as I have asthma and a weak immune system. Dr. Dave Hargrove is the reason we switched to this vet after trying multiple in the area. I have never experienced a vet treat my cat the way he did and absolutely incredible with my dog. From talking cat, to laying down on the ground with my babies before doing any sort of medical examination, simply amazing. He's taken the time to explain to me all of our options (naturalpathic & pharmaceutical options) and doing a thorough examination anytime we've had a concern. The care is exceptional as well, every time I leave with each dr we've seen I've felt that the advice and recommendations we're sent home with are always for the best of our pets. I was very disappointed that this veterinary hospital is not following state veterinary Association guidelines with regard to Covid. I took my dog in for an infection and no one was wearing masks, not in the waiting room and not amongst the staff. Clients were not instructed to wait in our car, we were all in the waiting room together with no masks, except for me. The veterinarian told me that Covid is a hoax and there is no need to worry about it and the vet tech told me that they don't wanna wear masks because the mask scare of the pets. I promptly switched to a different veterinary hospital, after 14 years at fountain, Because this was just more than I could bare. I'm ashamed of myself for taking my pets to this hospital for so long. If they are denying the Covid protocols, who knows what bad veterinary science they've been reflecting on my pets for all these years. read more

What I appreciate most about the care received at Fountain Vet is that I feel like a partner in care decisions and never feel pressured or guilted into making choices. In the decades I have brought animals here, I have had a dog with epilepsy and diabetes, geriatric cats, a dog who needed joint surgery, and a senior dog with bone cancer. All of these situations lead to hard choices about treatment and prolonging life, quality of life versus quantity of life. Todd and Pete are great about providing evidence based treatment options, explaining what options will mean for the pet themselves, as well as my bank account, all while petting and playing with my pet and soothing my emotions as well. They are 2 of the most compassionate men I have ever known, I can't imagine how hard it is to navigate the many roles they play, social worker, counselor, as well as being amazing DVMs. The Covid-19 pandemic meant an increase in pet ownership, but not an increase in the number of practicing vets. Yes, it can be harder to get in now, I had to wait to get my dog in for his booster shots, and the phones can be quite busy and the staff can be understandably stressed out at times. But it has been an overwhelming time to provide care to animals and their stressed out and isolated owners! When my 21 year old cat needed to have her suffering ended, they got her in that day, were so very kind to me, talked us through the gentle process, and let me take my time saying goodbye. Today when my dog got his booster shot, he never stopped wagging his tail, he loves to visit Todd and did not even notice the shot! Never have I experienced a less professional vet. When my roommates and I first adopted our cat we took him to Fountain Vet for a check up. Dr. Todd talked with us. Actually, Dr. Todd talked to my male roommate exclusively, despite us being clear co-owners of the cat. But, whatever. This rating comes from a different visit, one right after my cat got Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease. We noticed something was wrong with our cat at around 10 p.m. and took him to the emergency vet in town. They were amazing and very understanding about why a group of four came in with his cat. We all love this cat. They attempted to dislodge the crystals that had formed in his urinary tract manually but were unsuccessful because we have a feisty little creature. They talked to us frankly and told us he needs a catheter and explained the cost (which was steep, because it's an after hours vet facility). We decided, us and the vet, to take our cat home for the night and bring him into Fountain first thing in the morning to get a catheter in and his tract cleared out. When we arrived at Fountain Vet, we told Dr. Todd about our cat's situation and our six-hour-long stay at the emergency vet the night before. He then barely checked out our cat and told us we needed to put him on special food and tried to get us out the door. We pushed for a catheter, as the vet from the night before had made it very clear our cat needed it as soon as possible. Dr. Todd pushed back. So did we. Finally, he relented and then the next challenge was getting him to talk to us about the details on this procedure (time, risk, cost). He left us to talk together for a moment and did not even fully enter the room when he came back. We had more to ask, but he lingered in the doorway (almost letting our cat get out) to answer our questions instead of just coming all the way in like a normal person. Cat got the catheter. Lo and behold the poor creature had FOUR fucking blockages. And to think Dr. Todd advised us against this option. Bad vet, bad manners. I was a client at Fountain Vet for nearly 12 years and had nothing but positive things to say about them, even driving 1.5 hours each way to an appointment when I left Bellingham. Having since returned I've found that while the majority of the front office are still as surly as ever (which was annoying but never enough reason for me to leave), the rest of their practice has gone downhill. I've had 3 appointments within the last year, and each one was worse than the one before it. Case in point- My dog received a nasty gash to her face, and the next appointment date was a few days out. My appointment was set for 3pm. I arrived at 2:45, and then sat in the lobby until 4:00, an entire HOUR after my appointment time. I was finally taken back to a treatment room, where I sat for an additional 40 minutes. I finally had to ask the staff if they remembered I was there, and when the doctor eventually came in, she turned us away saying it was too close to closing time to give my dog stitches. I waited 2 hours and 15 minutes to be seen, and was sent away with a gashed open dog. Yeah. So they sent me home with some eye goop, rescheduled for the next morning, and again I sat for close to 30 minutes before she was taken back. The time before that we brought in my dog with a dermoid cyst which required surgery for removal. One doctor called to then let me know she needed additional surgery because they didn't choose to remove it all at once when they had the chance, and then ANOTHER doctor said she had no idea what the first doctor was talking about. No congruency in chart notes, total lack of communication, and what would have been another unnecessary surgery. The time before that, our chicken was attacked by a cat and needed to be euthanized. The technician brought her in the back with such a "whatever" attitude I could have choked her. She kept calling her an "it" and asked if we wanted "it" back. Bedside manner. Figure it out. Anyway. Many people continue to have good experiences there, as I used to as well. Hope it goes better for you than it has for me. read more

I have been bringing my 14 yo senior dog here since he was 8 weeks old, and they used to be great. For the past two years, it sounds like I've experienced the same issues many other people have...waiting on hold for an inordinate amount of time, waiting over 45 mins (at the least) past my scheduled appointment to be seen, etc. My last experience resulted in me prepaying for a prescription for my dog, only to go in to pick it up and be told that they have no record that I wasn't already given the prescription. That isn't my problem, that is absolutely poor record keeping on their part. And to rub salt in the wound, they offered to split the cost of my dogs ear drops with me instead of saying, "Jeez, I'm sorry about our horrible record keeping, we'll cover the cost of a replacement". This was the last straw, and I decided to look for a new vet closer to the area I live. My new Vet called Fountain twice within a month to request my dogs records and never received anything. I also called twice and was told they would be sent, and nothing. To say I was pissed when I had to call a 3rd time would be an understatement. Fountain, we will absolutely never bring any pets here again, and I am slightly ashamed I've recommended so many people to you over the years. Traveling from out of state - I made an appointment a month in advance for my dogs 4th and final parvo shot. 2 days prior they called to cancel my appointment. I explained all we needed was the shot which literally takes minutes to administer but still unwilling to schedule. I had a great experience taking my dog to see Dr. Todd at Fountain Vet. It was my first time personally taking my dog here (my partner has taken him every other time), and I was so pleasantly surprised with how sweet and gentle Dr. Todd was with Charlie, calling him "Char-Char" and making sure he was comfortable and at ease. The doctor thoroughly answered all my questions related to my dog's allergies and paw health, and even gave me some less expensive recommendations to help ease itchy and irritated skin. It was clear to me that Dr. Todd is passionate about what he does, and didn't look at me as just another customer, but instead provided the best care and advice for our dog. i've taken my cat in a couple of times and the doctors never gave me a horrible experience. they definitely did make me feel like a dumb uneducated young pet owner. but their office staff is unacceptably rude and have no sense of customer service. girl really needs to check her attitude. if you work at a vet at lease MAKE yourself sound like you somewhat care and sympathize for my pet. read more

My in laws have taken their animals here for over a decade. Dr. Todd is friendly and his staff are courteous and professionally. My friend brought his Doberman in and Dr. Todd treated him like his own pet, playing with him and making the exam much easier in the process. I've gone to Fountain Vet all my life (well, not for me). I have had cats and taken them here. The front desk folks are good and usually friendly. The doctors have always been very good. The only problem is turn-over. The doc we always knew as kids is very part-time, that doctor's son is a very good vet, too, but there are other vets that I have seen that aren't there anymore. Recently I worked with Dr. Pete and he was very good. I had to put my cat down and he was excellent. He has also helped with a senior dog we adopted that developed renal failure (and accompanying seizures). He helped via email (which I appreciate). Negatives, the building is tired. Quite tired. I am pretty sure everyone would agree that carpet in a pet intensive environment is not the best. This carpet should be pulled up immediately and some other, non-odor retaining surface should be installed. Prices for meds and food seem to be very competitive, if not low. read more

Since my original review, my Poodle Angel lived to be 17 1/2 and passed away. The staff at Fountain Vet was phenomenal during this extremely emotional experience. I can't thank them enough for the excellent care she received and peaceful ending they gave to her and my family during her last days. I have since moved to the Seattle area, gotten married, and we have added a golden retriever (Maya) to our new family. I wish that we could take Maya to the vets at Fountain. Recently, my parents were watching Maya when we were on vacation. Maya had a small infection and my mom called Fountain (still the vet for my parents' pets) and they fit her right in. They cleaned up her injury, got her on antibiotics, and the bill the SO reasonable - a fraction of what we would have paid at our vet even with pet insurance. I can't say enough good things about the staff and office - they are good at their job, friendly, care about animals, and have a passion for their work. I wish all vet offices were this great! read more

We started going to Fountain Vet two years ago when my dog needed surgeries for tumors. Dr. Pete was awesome and very much so understood that as a single mother, I did not have a lot of disposable income but wanted to do the best for my elderly dog. The surgery and aftercare for this was very affordable and everything went very well. Fast forward to the present - we see a different vet every time we go in. Although I made it super clear to the new doctor we saw that money was in fact an issue, we left with a bill that cost more than my dogs surgery that took place two years ago! She gave us a prescription for a pain killer (tramadol), anti-inflammatory and filled it there ($97) and also a ridiculously priced shampoo. After looking on Amazon to see that I could have ordered these items for my dog for a third of the price, I was infuriated. I waited for the office staff to give me my bill that day and they took so long that we left... I was shocked and mad when I got the bill in the mail a few weeks later. I feel totally taken advantage of and mad that there was zero communication as to what they were charging me. read more

Prepare to be nickel and dimed,just like human healthcare. I took my dog in for an allergic reaction and they prescribed anti-inflammatory and antibiotic medications. They had to "sedate" my puppy to "shave" the inflamed area. They proceeded to charge me $54 JUST TO SHAVE A SPOT ON HIS NECK (the total bill was near $300). When I checked out, the place was packed and I had two people waiting behind me, and I didn't want to hold them up - but I did mention I did not agree with the $54 shave fee, and the lady told me "because it can take 3 people to hold the dog down while we shave them". Of course he was SEDATED so this answer was a total lie. Beyond this, the service was subpar; the Vet (I believe Dr. Fox) seemed disconnected and disinterested; she didn't even know the right medication to put in his ears (I actually had to correct her about what it could do, and she said "oh yah, you're right. OK."). While my dog is doing better, the experience was not good and they did rip me off (charging $54 for something that probably took 2 minutes or less). It's bad enough human healthcare has turned into a rip-off scam, but it's even worse when vets jump on the same bandwagon. There's no excuse for this. read more

They took excellent care of my cat. My cat swallowed string. It went from his tongue to his smaller intestine. Dr. Perry went in and got it all out and was honest with me that he might not survive. I got a call on Saturday and was told that he's doing amazing. I could hear my boy in the background and according to an aid by the name of Joey, Dr. Perry is referring to my cat as "his miracle cat". That Sparkle is the first to greet staff when they arrive with rubs and purrs. He received the best care there and because of the extra cost at Christmas time they are going to let us make payments on our furry family member. I think everyone should take their pets there. read more
