Upon visiting the Watertown Wild Willys Nov 2018 I explained the situation anf asked if we could use it the next time we came. They said it would be fine. We went last week ordered and presented the card and were told the owner said they could not take 25 dollar gift certificate. While the food is good, the service in keeping their promises were not. They told me to call the number on the card, not realizing it I just looked to call and noticed its the number to the chain that closed. There are many places where the patty is good but the bun is either too sweet or mammoths the burger. I have a little angel on my left shoulder telling me to give this place a better review. Yes, it's a very good burger. But I can't decide if it's overpriced or not. The angel is telling me that you can't put a price on a good burger. And $6 isn't that much, you cheapskate. But I tell him that I can get a burger just as good or better at The Common Ground, James Gate, or RF O'Sullivan's for just a dollar or two more. I came here quite a while ago with friends and found it really tasty, but unfortunately without a car I've never been able to make it back. I had the Wicked Good burger with onions, mushrooms and Swiss and cheddar cheeses, and It was extremely large, juicy and flavorful. Loved the fresh cut fries but the crispy onion rings are even better! One major downer was that my vegetarian friend's veggie burger somehow came with bacon. Fortunately he is not fussy about meats touching his foods, so we all had a good laugh, and he simply passed the bacon on to my carnivorous friend's burger. But for most veges that would be a major turnoff. I also don't like how lettuce and tomato cost extra. I didn't realize that so didn't order it. Fortunately my friend who inherited the bacon handed off his tomato to me. The decor is majorly hokey. They've got this giant mural of a cattle drive on one wall, and if you look closely the perspective is all messed up and the cows' legs totally out of proportion. Wild Willy's was suggested to me by a coworker who said that it is his favorite in all of Boston to get great burgers. Upon walking in on what should've been the dinner rush (7pm on a weeknight), the place was near empty, with only two tables of guests in the entire restaurant. I loved the menu at first glance - you can choose between three different beef: local grass-fed (which was what I chose), angus (what my guy chose), or regular USDA. Much like other new burger places, Wild Willy's has lots of different types of burger styles and toppings, but what really impressed me was that they cook to order! In addition, they serve beer and wine, as well as sodas, specialty lemonades, milkshakes, and floats. When our medium-rare burgers arrived... they were medium, at best. When we go to Five Guys or Tasty Burger, we expect medium or well-done burgers; but, if your establishment offers cooked-to-order done-ness, it should be done as ordered! This is compounded with the fact that we spent over $30 for two burgers, cheese fries, a bottle of water, and one root beer float... and our burgers weren't done properly as well as the bright-orange "cheese" sauce on the fries was very obviously from a pump. This place was described to me as having THE best burgers! While I'm not sure if they were THE best, they were pretty darn good! One thing that Wild Willy certainly got right is their ordering system! One of the best I have seen for a restaurant. You place your order at a counter, get a little tag with a number on it, then go sit at a table. The staff will come around with your food and place it on the table, and take your tag. A great system for groups of people, then instead of asking for separate bills you just pay separately! Everything is made fresh behind the counter, and they even fresh cut the fries! That's right, REAL french fries! While they are a bit greasy they taste great! The Bubba BBQ burger was good, and my friends told me the veggie burgers were good as well. Gibbet Hill breeds Angus Steer on site (Supposedly, they don't raise steers on site, but since their sister farm provides the restaurant with their meat, the distinction is dubious). And, it's a gorgeous site. Probably the prettiest place, not on a shore, in Massachusetts. Period. And, the same price as an Angus Burger at Wild Willy's. The New Boston Tavern, in New Boston, NH. Get the Bison burger, and then drool all over yourself. It is SO TASTY. So, okay, Willy's is good. You lose me with the cheesy, and the prices. Mostly the cheesy. But then again, I'm not sure why they even have the options because obviously you should ALWAYS get the grass-fed burger.
