Had my lips & eyebrows done by Karen. ..she is wonderful!!! Very detail oriented, very professional, very knowledgeable!!! I was a bit hesitant, because it is PERMANENT...and I am a bit of a chicken, but Karen quickly dispersed my fears and put me at ease! I'm very surprised to read the review mentioning how caring and attentive Karen was. I had my eyeliner done and she NEVER called to check on me. When I went for my touch up visit I mentioned that I'd had a bad reaction and the healing time she stated of 2-3 days was actually closer to a week. The liner is not even on both eyes ... and I mean after my touch up visit. She did not ever call to see if I was happy with results or see if I'd had another bad reaction. When I complained that my eyes looked uneven, she said it was my fault because I had flinched. I would expect someone with experience tattooing eyes to have worked on clients that do flinch. It's an involuntary reaction when your eyelids are being punctured with a needle. If someone is having a "flinching" reaction, you stop and work with them. You don't continue and do a bad job. When I described what I wanted the liner to look like she said things like "you're funny" and "I"m just going to do it". When a professional says things like that, I would expect her to know what is in style/fashionable and what would flatter her client. I don't think either was true. I felt bullied and that my opinion was disregarded. She was so short with me I didn't express the full extent of my displeasure because I was still hopeful that she would fix it. I wanted this procedure to look and feel better about myself...and to make my life easier. Now I constantly worry about using eyeliner to make my eyes look even. Karen Innocenti is very personable and a perfectionist. I am delighted with the outcome of my tatoos for eyeliner, eyebrows and lips. She is a master of color and provides an extremely important service for those of us who are or have been cancer patients. Karen is a perfectionist and the only person I would trust with my eyes. I never thought I would be a candidate for permanent make-up, until I saw Karen's work. I started with eyeliner and recently went back and had my brows done. Her attention to detail is amazing. She is extremely caring and listens to you. Karen Innocenti (aka Karen Birdwell) does permanent makeup out of Aqua Salon in Alamo, and Bella Per Sempre is her business. Karen does a good job on eyebrows - I was very pleased. When you go in, bring a picture so you can explain exactly what you want. I think she is very good at color matching. After having my eyes and eyebrows done, no one even noticed, it was that natural. It was great waking up with makeup on. A couple of complaints center around the way the business is run. Get the prices in writing before you make an appointment for any work. Make sure you understand which treatments allow a free touch up and which ones you have to pay for each time. I could have sworn I was told one price over the phone and then it ended up being double, due to the misunderstanding over the free touch up. The problem is that the work is not finished in one visit. If having areola work done, you will only get the outline the first visit, which is $800. then you go back to get it finished and it is another $800. Seems totally up to her what amount she does per session, so you are stuck! Get it in writing and ask questions, even though she seems a little annoyed if you ask. Anything you sign, be sure to ask her for copies for your records. Also, at these prices, you would think you would be offered coffee or bottled water, maybe even a glass of champagne, but that does not happen. read more

Karen is an amazing artist and technician. She first studies your face and listens carefully to your thoughts. I am a pretty skeptical and critical person but her sincere interest in making you look good was obvious, as is her professional demeanor and experience and training. I went first to have eye liner done. There IS some pain involved, but Karen is very professional and calming through out the procedure. And all her procedures include a follow-up appointment to do any needed touch ups, and my touch up procedure didn't seem nearly as challenging as the original procedure. No pain no gain is what I tell myself anyway. And let me tell you that nominal pain is so worth the incredibly beautiful result. There was some swelling for a few days, with complete healing taking about a week or so. But with some eyeshadow I never missed a day of work, and at worst people thought I was dealing with allergies for a couple of days. Most never noticed anything. It was so great to wake up and look good in the morning without putting on any make up. So I decided to have my eyebrows done. Well, having my eyebrows done was so easy compared to the eye liner, with virtually no pain. At first I thought I'd be looking like Elizabeth Taylor, with beautifully shaped but very dark brows, but still looked OK. But as the days then weeks have gone by, the brows have lightened up significantly and I have to say the result is both stunningly beautiful, natural looking, and took 10 years off the age of my face. When I get up in the morning, even if my hair is crazy, I look really good with my eye liner and youthful brows, and no make up! So now I am scheduled to have my lips done by Karen and am so looking forward to it. I'm someone who licks my lips a lot and therefore cannot keep lipstick on for more than a moment or so, and with age, the edges of my lips have really disintegrated. I can't wait to see what artistry Karen has in store for my lips. I highly recommend Karen to whoever is considering permanent make up. It makes life so much easier, and I look good all the time, no matter what time of day, no matter what activity I am involved in, and no matter how much time I have, none or plenty, to apply make up. I was nervous about getting my eyebrows done and had been talking about doing it for years with no action. After reviewing Karen's before and after photos I decided to have a consultation because the after photos look so much more natural than others I had seen from other permanent makeup artists. I left the consultation feeling like she completely understood what I was looking for and I had faith that she could do this permanent change to my face and it would turn out well. She even addressed my concerns before I could voice them. I scheduled my appointment right away. The procedure itself was painful (I may be extra sensitive, but then again it was tattooing on my face) and I'm glad I was able to do it on a three day weekend so I didn't have to go to work right after having it done. Karen made my eyebrows the perfect color and she added a much needed arch to my thin brows. I wish I found her sooner! It took me a couple of weeks to finally stop worrying that I may have accidentally wiped some of my draw on brow off. I love getting out of bed and not having to spend the extra time doing that part of my makeup routine - now just a small pluck is all it takes. And the arch make a big difference. I was very hesitant to get my eyebrows tattooed for fear they would not look natural. I got a referral to Karen so went to see her for a consultation. She was great! We talked and she put my fears at ease so I booked the appointment. Karen is a professional, a perfectionist, and a lovely person. Did it hurt? Yes - but so worth it!!! It is a two step process; the initial tattooing appointment followed by a "touch-up" several weeks later after the initial healing. I've just had my touch-up and couldn't be happier! I was actually very happy before the touch-up and wondered what she could possibly do to make them even better. As I said, she is a perfectionist and she did make them even more perfect. The healing process is not a big deal. I went out right away and was not at all self-conscious. Bottom line is that I am happy! I get more compliments about how pretty my eyes are, which I believe is because they are framed beautifully by my eyebrows. THANK YOU, Karen!!! read more
