We wanted to come here the most but when we found they were closed on Tuesday we looked else where but had no luck on getting a apt or shoot even calls back which worked out for us cause Stay True was the place to go. Have been coming to Stay True Tattoo for over 5 years at this point and absolutely love the work that the team does. I've personally worked with Steph (moved to MT unfortunately) and Matt (still there and he's my dude!) and their work is top-notch. They take as much time as needed to make sure I'm 100% comfortable with the artwork that will go on my body and are willing to take feedback and adjust as needed. There are a few highlights I'd like to discuss: Cleanliness: Each of the artists takes cleanliness and hygiene very seriously. Surfaces are sterilized between clients and everything is set up fresh and nice right in front of you. There's no questioning the attention to detail. Skill level: Top notch. Matt and Steph have hand drawn and used templates for my tats and I've been so happy with the coloring, detail, shading, outlines, you name it. My tats haven't faded at all and I get compliments on the detail and color work that they've done. They make sure to check up on me as we're doing longer sessions to which I agree to power through. I didn't have too much knowledge with tattoos, but I do now. I got tattooed from this place 2 years ago, and it was an okay experience but the work was terrible. I walked in and made sure they can do my tattoo, they said yes. I let them know I want a smaller size with thinner characters and they told me that they do not have smaller ones... If you look at the picture of my tattoo, you can DEFINITELY get a thinner one tattooed. They told me that, fine, whatever. I can live with it. After getting the tattoo, I noticed that they messed up. They had blown out my tattoo. If you can see the picture, one of the characters have a thicker line and it looks so gross. "Why don't you just cover it up" well because I like simplistic tattoos. Great tattoo experience! I came here for a touch up of an existing tattoo and I'm very happy with my results! I had gotten a red cursive tattoo on a trip to Hawaii 6 months ago and unfortunately it didn't turn out how I had hoped. I wanted the line weight to be more consistent and the color to be darker red. Shea was super helpful, and mixed several colors to get the dark red I was looking for. She went over my existing tattoo and evened out the line work. It looks so much better!! I got my first MOMMY tattoo with Steven (recommended by my friend Jessica). I admit, I was super nervous that the vision I had in my head wouldn't come to life, but Steve delivered! I absolutely love it. The appointment process was easy. We set a date and I emailed him ideas of what I wanted: - no color - clean, simple - Aster - birthmonth flower for my son - Chrysanthemum- birthmonth flower for my furson (who passed away 3.23.19 ) - and three leaves to represent my 3 angel babies On the day of the appointment, Steve showed me his first drawing - I loved the general design, but wanted a few changes. I gave him some feedback and he happily adjusted the image (i wanted the aster to be approx the same size as the chrysanthemum even tho i know Asters are small). When I saw that I was like Yasssssss!! Then I wanted to see what it would look like if we swapped the flowers so the aster was on top, and he happily did that. Ultimately, i decided on the previous drawing. Then came the placement. I wanted it in my inner arm so that when I put my arms down, you can't see it. So it took a few times before we finally got the perfect spot. He had also adjusted the flower once again because there was a bunch of negative space I wanted to cover up. Once we got the placement, it was GO TIME! I was super nervous because I heard the inner arm was sensitive, but it wasn't tooooo bad. He talked me through the after care and all that. He was super patient with all my questions and all my picture taking requests LOL. overall, fantastic experience. I'm already planning to go and get my next two!!! I can't wait Big THANK YOU to Steve for creating the perfect image to represent my boys and my babies. I am so happy!! (And thankful for my friend that recommended him!! Note: This most specifically relates to my experience with the tattoo artist Mike. Others may have different experiences with different artists. First, I am pretty tattooed. I have been to many different artists over a 20 year period. Some were great, some not, some customer focused, some very difficult. So, I would consider myself a solid judge of what should be a good experience. I would not say my experience here was horrendous, but I wouldn't come back and wouldn't personally recommend it to anyone else. From a shop perspective, I will say that the art up is pretty cool and has a nice old school feeling. But, one thing I will say about the shop is that it is very open and exposed. So, for someone getting a tattoo in a delicate area or someone who likes privacy at all will NOT get it here. I personally prefer a little more privacy as I am sitting there shirtless than for every person walking by to know my business. There was a woman laying down quite exposed getting her lower back tattooed as well and I was sort of empathizing for her as well. Again, personal preference, but I like some discreetness personally. It is in a little strip mall complex so there is a decent amount of random foot traffic to the restaurants and shops there. I started following the shop and the artist Mike Hudgins on Instagram so I could see some of their work. I messaged Mike and said I'd like to come in and meet him. He told me he was working Friday from 12-7 or something. I purposely worked from home to come in in the afternoon only to be told he wasn't there, he had personal errands. They made a consultation appointment for me on Sunday. Ok, no huge deal, but not the best start. Maybe he could have recommended a consultation appt originally? On Sunday, I show up for the consultation appt to meet Mike. We literally spent about 3-5 minutes chatting. I really want to build out a larger chest piece and want to be sure we are aligned. I wanted to start with two doves, but in a very specific style. He was very dismissive like "yep got it" and "I have to go finish up a drawing for my next appt". I was like "but do you understand what I'm looking for?" and I got a very dismissive "yep" with a request for a deposit. I was like "so for future plans..." and he says "well, let's just start with the doves." "ummmm ok." I am not at all confident but hoping when I go back in 2 weeks he has something interesting kicked off. On appointment day, I show up to find that he basically just printed off some dove clipart from a Google image search. I say "this is not what I had in mind. I explained the style of dove that I wanted." He says "well I haven't seen it like that before" and literally goes to the computer to do another Google image search. I'm thinking "right, but you are an artist, don't you draw tattoos as well? Or only use Google image search?" I am close to walking out the door, screw my deposit. But, I say let me see them, and hold them up. So, I do that. They look ok. I say lets get it done. I tell him I really don't want them too heavily shaded, they're doves so they should be light. "Yep, got it." "ummm ok." At this point I am laying there and very nervous but trying to talk to him and the other people there. We get along ok so I'm hopeful this will turn out alright. There were a couple things which were bothersome. First, it was only a couple hour tattoo, do you really need a smoke break in the middle? Second, I'm sorry, but when an artist is tattooing something PERMANENT on my body, perhaps they could be left alone? Anytime someone called or came in with questions, the shop manager woman would come to Mike to ask him a question. Maybe we could ask the 18 year old kid coming in asking the typical walk in "how much is a tattoo?" question to come back later or someone else could handle the answer? It is a huge pet peeve of mine as this is my time and my body they are permanently marking. Finally the tattoo is all done. It is very dark (remember when I asked for it to be light?). He even tries to assure me it will lighten up once it settles in. Yeah, sure. It is a little oddly aligned the way he drew in the olive branches. I am not super stoked but think it is ok. Later I noticed there is a lot of ink bleeding outside of the lines, but I don't totally blame the artist on that. Sometimes it can happen and it was not from a blowout. They ask for a follow up appt to do more work as I want to build out my chest and I want to talk about what to do next, he says "well come back for an appt and we can freehand some stuff." I make the appt but later decide to cancel it because I didn't want to work with him again. I call to cancel saying I had other obligations and was told "Mike will give you a call" with a bit of an attitude. That never happened and that's perfectly fine. I wish the shop good luck and no ill will, but I will take my business elsewhere and felt obligated to share my experience. read more

My tattoo took about 2 hours to get done (with a break between the outlining and shading) and it was all in all a great experience! It's hard to know what to say when an artist does one tattoo perfectly, and another one just so-so. Chris was my guy, and he did a tremendous job on a hummingbird on my calf. Later, I had him do a California flag bear on my shoulder, and, well, it wasn't as great. It has some good qualities, but it only resembles the bear on the flag. I have seen his work, and he is madly talented, and I appreciated his laid back manner. However, in the middle of starting my bear, he took off to take care of some laundry! Now, I'm a patient guy, but I kinda thought that was not cool to leave in the middle of a job. Like I said, his first tat was super, and I had high hopes for a repeat performance. I was disappointed. He did some other smaller stuff, too, and those were fine. I am not sure what went wrong, but I am going to have to find another artist to make some adjustments on it now. I am not sure I want Chris to do anymore work on me, at this point. The other staff in the shop were very cool, and the whole place had a good vibe. I just don't know how to tell an artist that his work was below the high standard he had set in the past, and what is reflected in his portfolio. read more
