Janell will apply a numbing cream on your eyes for about 10-15 minutes. The procedure doesn't hurt. You'll feel a tickling or itchy sensation. Janell takes many breaks in between tattooing so it gives you some relief between the session. I am pleased with my results and I am happy I no longer have to draw my brows and eye liner. I have come here for almost a decade and have grown older with Janell. I'm a low maintenance make-up person who wears zero make-up and eyebrows are important but hard to get right on your own. My original tattoo eyebrows are from Janell and she has helped maintained them at least once a year. There's a wonderful taco place that opened up across her shop that I always go to afterwards for lunch. : ) Janell is a kind person who offers hot teas and coffee to her clients. She has a lovely waiting area and her prices are good although over the years, it's gotten much higher just like with everything else. If you want natural eyebrows that look dark and maintained, I recommend Janell although the first few times, the tattoo pen inflicts pain even with numbing cream so it's not for the faint of heart but over time, your skin adjusts to the tattoo ink and it hurts less. The color becomes more stable after about 7-8 rounds of fresh ink. This Orinda area is also nice to come back to with good parking spots. HIghly recommended. read more

It took me YEARS to take the leap of faith and pay a total stranger to tattoo my face - MY EYES. I had upper and lower lash lines done and I swear to you second, third, and fourth thoughts were racing through my brain as Janell was numbing my lids. Fast forward about 1/2 an hour to where I'm looking in the hand held mirror and all those silly thoughts were replaced with the most conceited and vain thoughts of what a gorgeous supermodel I am. Janell is SO good at what she does. I recommend bringing photos of what you want your finished look to be (on you but maybe also on others). If you wear contact lenses bring a case and solution to store while you are being worked on. Ask all the questions re. self care and timing after appointment if you are needing your new look healed and beautiful(er) by a specific date. My friend recommend me to go see Janell for my eyeliner tattoo and I'm glad I went. I message her an got an appointment quick. I went in and talk about how I wanted my liner done and she got to work. All in all I was there for about an hour. I was able to drive home, and Janell told me to expect swelling and boy did I swell. My eyes look like I got stung by a bee but it didn't hurt. By the 3rd day it was back to normal. Janell is so warm and experienced. She has truly immersed herself in her craft and is so artistically inclined. She listens to your concerns and ideas, then advises you with the utmost professionalism. Today I went in for upper eyeliner only. I made the appointment for 1:30 and she was ready at 1:30 sharp. She had just finished another client and her demeanor was friendly, fresh and inviting. She wasn't worn down or exhausted. I could tell she wanted to be there. Those attributes made me comfortable and assured that I had made the right choice by choosing Janell. It wasn't too painful. I expected the tattooing near my eye so that wasn't the worst part, but I was concerned and nervous during the numbing process. A little stinging sensation here and there, that "swelling" sensation occurred, like it does during any anesthetic procedure. It was just odd feeling that way around the eye. So be prepared for that. It's not really painful, just a few irritating and abnormal sensations. It's like novacaine on your eye, lol. It's not, but that's how it felt on me. She is quick and thorough at the same time. Oxymoron or not, that she is and many clients love her for it. I am already planning on returning for a soft pink on the lips. Here is a photo I took immediately after the procedure. Don't mind the goop, that's the antibacterial ointment for healing. They permanent makeup will lighten up a bit and I will go back within 90 days to take advantage of the complimentary touch-up! Gals, this is a must. Because as the tattoo flakes it could have patchy spots or areas that did not take the first time. So remember, "touch ups" should just be assumed as part of the process. I am so glad I found Janell! I had gotten my eyebrows, lip liner, and eyeliner done by a few others in the bay area, and Janell is my favorite. I initially came in to see her for permanent eyeliner. She was super patient with me and my nit-pickiness. I also experienced the least amount of pain with Janell compared to others. She has a neat technique to make sure that you're properly numb before starting. Afterwards, she gives you care instructions and some ointment to put over the tattoo over the next few days. She did awesome (and symmetrical!) eyeliner wings on me. I usually touch-up my eyebrows myself with some microblading, but didn't want to continue inefficiently touching them up, so I had Janelle do my eyebrows too. I love my brows and eyeliner!
