I've heard of a magical place called Waffle House. They're open 24 hours, the menu is cheap, but the food is great! I understood their locations only exist closer to the east half of the country, and was quite sad to know it'll likely be a very long time before I'll ever get the experience. Well that *was* until my good friend recommended the local diner Belgian Waffle & Omelet Inn which actually achieves everything I could ever want from a Waffle House! The food is actually amazing, and clearly made with love! I got their garlic burger which was just incredible, served with a generous portion of delicious fries! and my friend got huge stack of pancakes topped with ice cream and fresh fruit that I tried a little of and also adored! We also both had their raspberry lemonade, and I got an extra side of sausages. It was all so amazing. and even tho I saw the pricing on the menu, I was honestly expecting to spend about double what I actually paid (I seem to have generous rounded up too much in my head). I was frankly shocked the final bill was only $26! I felt like I was robbing them! I made sure to leave a large tip. The place was very clean and has a nice cozy atmosphere, and the staff were all so kind! I even received a compliment from one of the staff who's a Studio Ghibli fan and loved my soot sprite pin. I could go on and on about how this is easily one of my new favorite restaurants I'll be going to any time I get the munchies and want some comfort food, or whenever I'm really hungover and just need a quiet, gentle atmosphere where I can feel like a character in Twin Peaks. (My enthusiasm for this place is on par with Agent Dale Cooper.) I seriously can't recommend all of this enough. I'm shocked it exists, and frankly feel a sense of guile in knowing it's too good for Salt Lake City. I'm not religious, but I've now found heaven. read more

Well sadly, The Belgian Waffle & Omelet Inn, disappointed. First let me speak to the positive. The staff were super nice. Very friendly and fast! Now the negatives. Coffee was poor, tasted like it had been using the same ground to pass water through several times. The place is a little run down, which is okay. But the food was poor! The waffle was soggy. The fruit for the waffle had defrosted from a bag some days or weeks ago. The chicken strips were dry. Now was it just my meal that was bad? No. The others we had weren't too great either but I do feel like if you stop here you do want to try their hash browns. They are not your traditional hash browns. They are nice thick slices of potatoes. I did wish I tried the onion rings. They looked amazing, but they were for another table. Maybe next time I will try them. read more

Old fashion diner food and '70s feel. We went during a slow afternoon, and everything was at a chill pace. The portions are huge and the prices are excellent. The chicken-fried steak and eggs was excellent. The gravy added the perfect flavor. I had the cornbread hash and eggs which was accompanied by a mound of potatoes. So one day I decided to go to Belgian waffle & Omelet inn on my wonderful birthday with my family of 6. But once I stepped foot inside the establishment I was disgusted by the dirty floors. But Once we got our menus they were sticky and rank. I kinda just brushed it aside as I ordered the garbage hash with my two sisters. Once we got the food it was just old, repugnant potatoes basically the whole dish was impure. But once my dearest father got his French toast it smelled like decaying, gut wrenching rotten flesh. Just like a zombies mouth. I couldn't even breathe as I sat next to my father, I had to get up and go outside before I hurled. My father's eggs also arrived with full head of hair. The place lives up to their motto "Always Open & Always Delicious". It's the perfect restaurant for a quant and quiet evening out. Staff was super friendly and attentive. We were greeted right away and they immersed took our drink order. Food was delicious, filling and reasonably priced. Waffles were warm, light and fluffy. Chicken Tenders were HUGE. Booths line the windows so you can people watch as you eat. It's exactly the diner you imagine when you picture a 24/7 Waffle House. Bonus points cause the bathrooms were very clean. We got in on a late flight and were looking for food open late. Reviews made us a little nervous but we were so hungry we decided to risk it. Food was good. About what you would expect from a 24/7 diner like Denny's or Waffle House. I had a short stack of HUGE fluffy chocolate chip pancakes and a small hash brown. The hash browns were clearly a potato chopped up which honestly I like because you could tell it was a real vegetable at some point. More like homestyle potatoes. My brother got pork chops with sunny side up eggs and Texas toast. Everything was good. No food poisoning for either of us Staff was attentive and friendly, even at 1AM. Really good food 24 hours a day at reasonable prices. I ordered the shrimp basket (which comes with fries) and the French dip sandwich (I chose onion rings as my side). They give you very generous portions of sauce on the side. I had fry sauce for the onion rings and the shrimp basket came with delicious authentic cocktail sauce on the side. TBH, the fries aren't the best that I've had, but certainly not the worst either. The French dip also came with its own Au Jus on the side. You are also allowed to choose your type of bread for the sandwich, in which I chose sourdough. I have been here many, many times over two decades and have pretty much tried everything on their menu. I never leave disappointed! They also are available through food apps if you're interested and close by. I've gotten my latest "friends" group hooked on them! "Heaps of pie" and cinnamon rolls the size of a large dinner plates. We didn't see these on the menu but we sure wish we had! We saw these beauties on our way out, so be sure to look for them on your way in. As for the grub we did get, the waffle was classically cooked; crispy exterior, soft interior. (I highly recommend the whipped cream and strawberry toppings.) And the breakfast burrito was great. A little underwhelming until we added salsa + ranch, but still a solid order. Don't do it! They sat us almost right away, but then we were left waiting 15 min before the waitress took our order. Then waited 30 minutes for the food to show up. Food was mid and was cold; we got the chicken fried steak and eggs benedict. We also tried a plain waffle with whipped cream that was too soft. Yuck! Usual favorite brunch spots were busy with the weather improving, so we decided to try this place I've driven by hundreds of times with the vintage sign. I had the "Garbage Hash" and my daughter had a hamburger. That's what it actually states on the menu and labeled a "local favorite". It was terribly bland and undercooked. I want to start off with saying that their customer service was fair but the food was not. Portions were on the larger side but I had to salt and pepper ALL my food as it was quite bland. We ordered the cheese sticks and they came with a sauce that tasted like bottled tomato sauce, I sent it back because it didn't taste good at all. We replaced that appetizer with cheese fries and they didn't look appetizing at all to the point where we left it untouched. My partner and I ordered the same dish "2 pork chops." As I struggled to cut into my dry pork chops they shared some of theirs with me and they were juicy/tender which is odd because we ordered them at the same time. The cheese fries looked like they just sprinkled on shredded cheese and tossed it in the microwave. The pancakes were good, my muffins were decent, and my French toast needed some jam on top to help the taste and was hard to cut into bite size pieces. The Belgian Waffle is a no waffle. You cannot order a simple breakfast of eggs sausage and a waffle. The only waffle you can order is one loaded with fruit whipped cream and stuff. And, it is a small rectangular waffle, not the big round ones you can order at other restaurants. We ordered over easy eggs, sausage, hashbrown potatoes and toast. What we got was overcooked sausage and hard eggs. The hashbrowns we ordered came as chunks of potatoes with the skins. Our group of 16 guys rotate among many restaurants for breakfast weekly. I looked to my right and saw a hand sanitizer dispenser filled with what looked like Shrek's swamp water. I quickly decided my hands were better off without it. Shortly thereafter, our name was called, and we were seated under 1960s draperies in a wet booth that had certainly seen better days. Things were off to an okay start--our water and coffee were delivered promptly, and we ordered shortly after. Now, this is where things get interesting, so stay with me. Some time passed, and my stomach started to growl. Let's call her "Becky" came back with our food in hand and a Marlboro-smelling breath that could land a knockout punch like Mike Tyson. As for the food, let's just say we would have been better off with the $1 menu at McDonald's than eating the garbage disposal cuisine they served us. Belgium Waffle may have been a hit in the early 90s, but this place has aged like cheese left out in the sun. The staff weren't making rounds, they seemed to be prioritizing to go orders over table orders, they took almost an hour to get drinks to us, my sister didn't even get food because the waitress messed up her order, all our food was cold...and that wasn't even all the problems. Quirky old fashioned diner vibe that has so much potential but could use a little updating. That being said, the service is always terrific. The menu is hit or miss. The Belgian waffle is fine for a Dennys type place, I'd just expect a little more from a place with it in their name. However their breakfast burrito is surprisingly the best I've had in the area. I guess her shift was done. Eventually another server came and took our order. And then -- we waited for a good 20 or 25 minutes for the meal to be served. I see a lot of people complain about the slow service here, when we went they only had one server and one cook on staff, and the server was hilarious and entertaining even though she was waiting on 15+ tables--I feel like they definitely deserve some slack, this isn't fine dining. From massive portions at an affordable price to kind servers and fast food service this place has it all. Yes, the decor is outdated, but do I care? No. Does it affect the quality of food and service? No. This place has it all, and if you can get one of the cinnamon rolls, oh my god. I don't know the ins and outs of diner food, orders, food costs, and prep time; I'm not going to tell them their business. But when you can go in and get this stuff 24 hours a day, you know there isn't going to be a lot of precious preparation. So ya, I think it's fair to say that they're using some supplier-recommended food preparation methods in the kitchen. But at 2:30am do you really care about the full provenance of those onion rings? Nah, I'mma say you don't. This place has been around forever, and even though it's a little dated, it's still perfectly functional. It had been like 20 years since I have been here, so I don't remember what has changed, but it was tidy on my last visit and we sat in the corner booth and ordered a hodge podge of things between the five of us. Honestly, the fried stuff didn't look too bad. I'm not eating much fried stuff these days, but if that's your schtick I think it's a pretty safe part of the menu. They offer lots of options. Obvs breakfast is the main attraction and I wouldn't mind getting an omelet, maybe (get yo' protein!) but honestly I don't expect any of it to be life-giving. They do make all of their pies in house (but outsource other baked goods to a bakery proper) so I ordered a slice of key lime. I did find it odd that the server couldn't tell us what pies they had--he made us get up and go look in the case. Still, they have a nice selection and it's pie, after all, so you can't go wrong. I also saw someone at the table order a cinnamon roll and it was the size of a Volkswagen. Like, dinner plate sized. He didn't finish it but I'm pretty sure he got diabetes. That's a win, if you're into sweets. Look, I'mma level with you: When one of your homies is like, "Man, let's go get some really good food!" no one is going to suggest this place.
