Expensive but unique and tasty for San Antonio. I've visited twice and the first time blew me away. I was less impressed the second time. I think the waffles themselves are delicious. The crust is sugary and crispy and the inside warm and soft, not overly sweet and just delicious. But if you get toppings, they will make your waffle soggy. Plus the waffles with toppings are super expensive. Of all the toppings - my favorite is the apple. I like all the ice cream that they put on top of the waffles. Note that it's Breyers and not their house made ice cream (which I still need to try). They sell drinks here but like everything in this area, they are way overpriced. The coffees are pretty good though. Something I hate about this place is being served waffles on disposable plates. It's wasteful and tacky. But at least it's a very tasty waffle. Amazing amazing! I came in to grab a quick bite one day. I had a chicken panini and a huge cookie to split w my son. Sooooo good that I made a mental note to return. I brought my 8mo pregnant sister back to try the waffles and we ended up almost buying one of everything. Everything was high quality and the taste of the panini was just as good as the first time. Steven, I am shocked by the amount of animosity you have put into writing me back on my post. You are right, I do not know what is going on in your employees lives but what I do know is that you work in an establishment which customer service is expected. I believe that you should leave everything at the door when you enter the workplace, and if this cannot be done than you as an employer should have a talk with your employees. This place blew our minds away. We tried a dessert waffle with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. I've had "Belgian" waffles before but never a real Belgian waffle like this place serves. Their giant chocolate chip cookie with sea salt is also a 10/10 and I'm not even a big cookie person. Pretty pricey in my opinion, but I guess it is a touristy neighborhood, being located near the Alamo. Service was friendly and nice and the menu is pretty comprehensive because they offer savory waffles as well. The leige waffle is chewy and crisp and delicious! Not the best I've had but it's pretty good. I've heard leige waffles are supposed to have a more doughy, bready consistency unlike the typical Belgium waffles from Brussels, and these leige waffles do have that consistency. The nutella waffle with ice cream was delicious! The nutella was perfectly paired with the waffle, but there could have been a bigger scoop of ice cream, because that was an additional cost too. A recommendation is to offer nuts on the waffles because I went to a leige waffle place back in California that tasted amazing with the addition of nuts. The back and forth between the owner and grumpy reviewers made me want to check out why this proud of a proprietor that stands for the product he delivers. Deliver it does. An adorable coffee shop/bakery/dessert stop a few steps away from the riverwalk! I highly recommend coming here for some Belgian ice cream- though a bit pricey, definitely better than the other ice cream tourist traps! Texture of the ice cream was perfectly creamy and melt in your mouth delicious. They were out of one of the specialty Belgian flavors, but the gingerbread one (speculoos?) was super tasty, especially mixed with the fresh strawberry flavor. One of the best Belgium waffles i've ever had. Not much more to say about that. My taste buds were having a party in my mouth. It was so warm and had the perfect slight crunch to it. The served a lot of other items like chocolates and ice cream. You can get your waffle a la mode or with toppings. I seen one person get bananas on theirs which I never would have thought of. They are conveniently located in the tourist area of downtown San Antonio close to Ripleys believe it or not museums. I wasn't even in the mood for treats when we found this place but I rarely get a chance to eat a real warm Belgium waffle back home so this was the next best thing. So glad it wasn't an upset. The roque fromages is an adult version of grilled cheese sandwich with delicious herbs. With all the stupid cheesy tourists traps that surround the Alamo, I was shocked to find such an amazing little Belgian shop. This place has Belgian waffles that taste just like the ones off the street carts in Brussels (but perhaps a tad bit more sugar). The owner was awesome, and the sign about people mistaking a waffle made in a waffle maker as "Belgian" is pure gold, and I will be using it in the future instead of my "this is not a Belgian waffle" speech. And they sell Neuhaus aka the finest chocolate in the world, which can be pretty hard to find in the states. I couldn't shove my money at them fast enough. I am writing this hesitantly after reading the nasty responses the owner gives to any criticism, but..... We went in today, and I ordered from a picture on Yelp. The woman that took the order spoke English as a second language, and a misunderstanding occurred on the order. Possibly partially my fault, but I clearly told her that I wanted strawberries, and not caramelized apples. The order came out apples, and the "gentleman", presumably the owner, was confrontational, rather than accommodating. As opposed to arguing with him, I ate the overly sweet mess. However, considering the treatment, the price ($11 something for a waffle covered with sloppy caramelized apple, and a scoop of ice cream), we will NEVER return. And, when you read the nasty response the owner will undoubtedly give, consider that he responds that way to any, and all criticism. Then, consider spending your hard earned dollars elsewhere! Follow up: Well, given the reply from the "gentleman" that owns this place, my concerns were justified that any critical reviewer would be attacked. This place should be avoided, and if it were possible, I would reduce the rating based on the nasty attitude of the owner, and the poor service. Not only does Steven have a lousy attitude, he is hyper-sensitive, and cannot accept criticism. Sadly, Steven reacts in a childlike manner when criticized, by lashing out, and could benefit from anger management therapy. I'm not too sure what the huge fuss is about this place. I guess when you have quality chocolates and made-to-order waffles loaded with whipped cream, people tend to go a bit crazy. This is a very nice new shop. Located just around the corner from the Alamo, Belgian Sweets offers premium quality chocolates at equally premium prices. The selection is quite small and I'm not too certain they're hand made like a few other places around town. Since this was grand opening time, the paint was fresh, the seats new. The staff seemed genuinely interested in offering you service with a smile. The door greeter was more than willing drop a bit of knowledge on you even if it came off as purely what she'd read off a training card. All the staff we encountered were very nice. We ordered 5 chocolates and our bill was... They were good chocolates, no doubt. If you were to give these to your significant other, she'd be well pleased. However, I'm a bit of a cheap___ and I'd rather go to my favorite chocolatier out in Stone Oak where I know they make all the chocolates by hand in-house, and at a better price. We did not try the waffles but I must say they looked dang good. I'm sure had we tried one that my review would be 4 stars, not 3. I will give their waffles a try next time we go in there and I expect that my rating for Belgian Sweets will improve. Don't let the grand opening scare you away. My wife and I just devoured a waffle with this ginger butter biscuit spread that was out of this world delicious.
