I like this Bel-Air; it almost always has fresh produce and their customer service is always solid. One thing that is a miss sometimes is an expired product that I won't notice until I get home but everything else is on point. Pro tip: download the Raley's app to order groceries for online pickup or delivery; if you order a certain dollar amount; you can get free pickup or delivery-super convenient if you have a busy day! Also keep an open for the Monday $5 deals, which can be found in the weekly ads and the app. Drinks and a few other items that are among the $5 can be found just inside the doors on the right side of the store. They have good deals on staples such as water and I like the personalized deals for Something Extra members. It's usually somewhat easy to find a parking spot and when it's not, I don't mind because I like to get my steps in when I can! One thing I'd suggest is to add a 2nd e-cart pickup space to make it easier on workers when the 1st spot is taken but it's no problem to just text them that I'm parked near the e-cart sport and what make/model car to look for when they come out. UPDATE: The store manager reached out to me and offered a very sincere apology to try to rectify what happened, which I appreciated and I feel that it is definitely worth noting that she took the time to try and make things right. - - - I was horrified by my experience at this store yesterday. I have lived in the Carmichael area for 10 years and have never experienced anything like this. I went in to purchase a grocery bag and get cash back. For years, cash back has been available at the self-checkout registers. Apparently, that feature was removed two months ago, but there was no signage indicating this. My transaction completed without giving me a cash-back option, so I was confused and thought I had done something wrong. I was the only paying customer in the self-checkout area. The employee assigned there was behind me having a long conversation with someone who had already finished shopping and appeared to be his friend. When I finally asked for help, both turned toward me as though I was inconveniencing them. I explained what happened. The employee curtly told me cash back had been removed two months ago and said I would have to stand in a regular checkout line. When I questioned this, he responded, "Sorry, I don't make the rules. You don't like that? Go use the ATM in the corner." He then condescendingly told me, "You seem like you're having a bad day." It was Sunday, only two cashier lanes were open, and the lines were nearly down the aisles. Instead of offering any assistance, he continued standing near a register only a few feet away while talking to his friend. I asked to speak with a manager because I did not appreciate how I was being treated. The employee initially told me the manager was not there on weekends. After I asked whether there was seriously no supervisor in the entire store, he called an assistant manager. The assistant manager came downstairs without a name tag, never introduced himself, and never gave me his name. This is where the situation became completely unacceptable. As I moved away from self-checkout to speak privately with the assistant manager, the employee's friend followed me. He positioned himself approximately two feet away, listened to my conversation, smirked, and repeatedly interrupted. I politely asked the assistant manager to have him give me space. Instead, this man began insulting me while I was trying to explain my complaint. He called me a "weirdo" and "crazy," said I had "issues," mocked my jewelry and facial piercings, and said, "Why don't you go get another weird f--ing piercing?" He repeatedly talked over me to tell management that I was the problem and his friend had done nothing wrong. I asked the assistant manager directly, "Are you seriously going to stand here and allow another customer to follow me over here, call me names, and insult my appearance?" He did nothing. The other customer repeatedly mentioned that he personally knew the owner, saying things like, "Let Joyce know it's [name], I've known her for over 20 years." After that, the assistant manager became increasingly hostile toward me, raised his voice, and demanded, "Okay, so at this point, what do you want me to do about it?" When I asked again why he was allowing this person to stand behind me and verbally abuse me, the manager defended him, saying, "He has a right to stand behind you" and claiming I was the one who addressed him. Ironically, while the manager was saying this, the man was behind me calling me a "f--ing weirdo." The assistant manager witnessed none of the original interaction, yet immediately defended his employee and the employee's friend without reviewing cameras or, as far as I could tell, making any effort to determine what actually happened. Whether management agrees with a customer's complaint is beside the point. Allowing another customer--especially someone who appears personally connected to an employee and claims to know the owner--to follow a customer, interfere with a complaint to management, curse at them, call them names, and mock their appearance while management stands by is completely unacceptable. I never cursed at this man or insulted his appearance in return. I was trying to speak with management about an employee interaction and was subjected to personal attacks while the assistant manager refused to intervene. If you are LGBTQ+, goth/metal, have facial piercings, or simply look different, I would think twice about shopping here based on how I was treated. No customer should be mocked or humiliated because of their appearance. I left the store in tears, feeling bullied, humiliated, and embarrassed. After 10 years of living in this community, I never expected to be treated this way at a neighborhood grocery store. Highly disappointed in their customer service. I bought a bag of six cheese and the jalapeño bagels from the bakery. I got home and there were only five bagels two of which were plain. The following week I showed the picture to the clerk of the bakery, and he shrugged his shoulders and walked off. I showed the picture of the cashier and he said that there weren't barcodes on the bagel so it's hard to package them ( who barcode bagels). I emailed customer service and the manager seven days ago and have yet to hear back. Bel-Air used to have the greatest customer service. Used to. I def like shopping here over their sister store Raley's at times bc of the selection. But it def does beat Safeway with the type of quality items they have. Some of my favorite things from Bel Air is the deli dept. with their salads and combo meals, the bakery and the sale they have on snacks. I came recently and the Triscuit brand was on sale for $2.49 when you buy 2 or more! That's a steal! The only downside at this location was the poor customer experience I encountered in the deli department when the person behind the counter was not helpful with ordering some items. But overall, this is one location I frequent. I'd continue to come here again and I always look for deals on the pastries and salads. The self checkout need to be staggered like Safeway. I personally feel that all 4 stations being utilize at the same time is just too overcrowded. Can't really be 6 feet apart. Perhaps, Bel Air can do some adjustment to that. I came to get the 3.99 salmon fillet... too late, it was noon time, none left. Nonetheless, bought the 2 in a pack, sizeable Alaskan wild caught salmon for $12++. It was delicious. My boyfriend made the pasta, I pan friend the salmon with a tap of olive oil over medium heat for 4 mins on each size, covered with two tap of water to steam it up and crank up the heat a lil during last minute to get the crisp on each side. Cooked all the way but still soft. Nonetheless, this is a great Bel Air to shop at. People are wearing masks and doing their part with social distancing. So that's a plus... Shop here. Mislabeled food and poor customer service. This is our local store we've shopped at for over a decade. We bought two quiches that were labeled as Broccoli and Cheese but when we served them to our vegetarian friends at a party we found out one of them was a meat quiche that had been mislabeled. Smokers and homeless near the entrance, something you won't even see at a walmart. They need to get rid of the benches and place spikes near the areas where homeless sit. Why do you need to fill the middle of all isles with redundant high profit items unless all you care about is extracting the most money from your customer? Constantly have to move shopping carts that block your way when leaving outside. I would recommend this location, just check the produce, some of their Opal Apples near the register were bruised, but the Gala Apples were beautiful and I was happy with all the groceries I purchased! Don't what's happening in this store but it's really gone down hill. The lines are always so long at the only 2 registers they ever have open. So I went to the self check. And as always there was one not working so the line there was long also but I waited. And there were a few people in line behind me waiting. And then this dude walks up with a 12 pack of white claws and cuts in front of the line and goes to the clerk , who should be helping the customers that follow the rules and need help on the self check, and the clerk rings him up!!! So we were left waiting again because the people trying to use the self check need help. I just wanted to let everyone know how amazing this store is. i just could not ask for a better shopping experience starting in the bakery with all of the delicious fresh made pastries and bread to the amazing cakes. The quality and selection continued throughout the store. The hand cut meat selection is comprehensive and the butchers are so knowledgeable and willing to help find juat the right cut if meat for the dish i was preparing. The produce was fresh and looked so nice. When i was checking out the checker was so cheerful and chatty it made the final total a little easier to see. Finally, Ryan was extremely kind when he helped mw out with my groceries. I was there this morning (9/17/23) and a mentally disturbed man walked in. He started causing some small issues so the lady up front and another male employee and a customer took it upon themselves to get him out of the store. Once he was out of the store the female employee told him to go get hit by a car and kept egging him on. Like having a back and forth with him like he can even remotely understand what's going on. She was so childish. Seems like they chose violence over compassion. They should have just called the sheriff. Doesn't represent the company or human kind very well. This Carmichael Bel Air is in an interminably crowded and hard to access shopping center, but that's about the only downside. I am a big fan of Bel Air for their products, selection and overall cleanliness. I just with there was one closer to my home downtown. I can only make my assessment in comparison to the stores I frequent most often - Safeway and Raley's. Each has their benefits. Safeway is cheaper, more of a "grab and go" store, but often out of stock and messy. Raley's is the opposite - pricey with a bunch of brands I'd never need. Bel Air is the sweet spot - a good selection and the pricing isn't outrageous. I have no idea if any of these companies are actually owned by the same people, but they do all have their differences. Finally, the checker gal was really sweet, which I can't say often about grocery store clerks. A smile and a greeting makes a world of difference! read more

They did. The deli counter was busy with a lady making a few sandwiches for s customer. The sushi counter was open with the gentleman making fresh sushi. The Chinese food was being brought out fresh. this store is where I do 90% of my shopping and for the most part I go early on Saturday mornings when its not too crowded. Yesterday I had some last minute things to get for the holiday and despite it being jam packed I was happy with the experience. What happened as I left the store was a completely different animal. As I was putting my cart back in the designated spot two "gentlemen' reeking of bad intensions and alcohol came from the opposite direction. I waited to let them pass and they immediately took a threatening posture at me dropping F-bombs and threatening to "f me up" and one of these pigs actually spit on me. Employees of the store witnessed this whole interaction yet did nothing about this to stop it and welcomed them in the store. If that is how they are going to let people act I am considering taking my business elsewhere. Very friendly service staff - especially at the deli counter that I sometimes peruse. Because this store is close to my job, once in a while I stop in for a sandwich. Virtually same price for a sandwich as the Subway in the same complex or the Safeway deli across the street but incredibly better quality. Self check out is a must here (especially since the deli doesn't have its own register like Safeway does). Rest of the store is clean and well laid out. I've seen the rest of the reviews complaining about the prices at Bel-Air and to that I say here is a prime example of you get what you pay for. If you want dirt cheap drive up the street and go to Wal-Mart and roll the dice on that produce. But don't complain when it spoils in a day or two. Bel-Air is more of a one-stop kind of shop with several different services thrown under one roof. For convenience you pay a bit more. They throw in the great customer service for free. read more

I have been shopping between this store and Raley's on San Juan for 22 years. As I live between them both. Just recently, EVERY single time I go to this BEL Air, the lines to check out are ridiculously long! Lots of other customers complain about it too, as you're waiting in line. I could see if it was holiday shopping or event shopping. This particular store is trying to save so much labor cost by only utilizing one lane. These tactics are running customers off. This used to be a nice store. Nobody wants to shop for 15 minutes and wait in line for 10 minutes. This is unheard of. I spoke to Ryan the general manager about this. He just had a dumbfounded look on his face and told me to call headquarters, and I did. Answering service at 3:15 in the afternoon told me somebody would call back to address my complaint. Stopped in here a few times to shop; had a disgusting experience on Friday, however. I was standing at the Customer Service booth while three employees were yakking away with each other, two facing me, one with her back to me. One of the ones facing me WIPED HER NOSE on HER PALM, and then RANG THE BELL (that other people touch!) to alert the Customer Service person. Silly me, I thought one of these three that were standing right in front of Customer Service worked there, so that is why I did not ring that bell. However, this was disgusting. The store is good overall, however, the flowers here are always dying every time I come in here. It shouldn't be acceptable to sell those. I see a higher standard in bel air in regards to that.
