Beijing Station is a Chinese restaurant tucked away between a tax agent and a money lending business on Burwood Road near the train station.
They serve noodles, various appetisers, and dumplings prepared in a kitchen behind what looks like a Japanese-style wooden counter. The walls are dotted with cute sketches of various menu items, random cartoon sketches and some anime posters. The floors are a checkered design on top of which the brown wooden tables and seats are spaced out evenly.
What I enjoyed about this place is the casual dining, attentive service, clean tables and the snappiness of which food comes out after ordering.
I have had the hand-made dumplings, beef brisket noodle soup, seaweed salad, and what I like to call the "bashed cucumber" - a cold cucumber salad of which the cucumber looks like it is prepared simply by bashing it with a wooden club into small chunks with the flesh loosely attached to the skin of the cucumber. Regardless, the cucumber is served with a kind of spicy and chilli sauce which adds a nice flavour when mixed with the raw cucumber.
The hand-made dumplings were good but my favourite would be the beef brisket noodle soup. The beef was tender and tasty and the hand made noodles had a chewy texture which was nice. As for the seaweed salad, it consisted of thinly sliced seaweed, carrots and bean sprouts in a light sesame oil which is kind of refreshing.
I would recommend this place if you like dumplings, Chinese appetisers and hand-made noodles. read more
