Papaya Salad requested to be made Lao Style
Catherine T.

Definitely a locals place for cheap traditional Thai food. It's a tiny establishment at the end part of Thai Central with seating for about 15-20. They offer 2 cheap $4 dishes which are size proportionate to price. Thai Boat Noodle - Thin rice noodles in a dark stewy type broth that is on a the sweet side. You can choose your meat; pork/beef and it comes with some Asian greens. I found it too sweet for my liking so dumped loads of dried chilli and the chilli in vinegar into my bowl which made it acceptable with my non-sweet-eating taste buds. My friend ordered the Guy Jub - she wasn't too impressed but for $4 a pop we weren't gonna make too much of a fuss about it. Son Tum Lao Style - this was a special request. It's ok but if you're wanting Lap style go get it from a Lao eatery. I'm sure the dishes on the menu are good, just nothing to rave on about of you're looking for a Thai fix especially with the amount of awesome Thai choices within the precinct.

One of the multiple Thai restaurants in this part of Sydney, we ended up here while looking for a decent place to get some dinner. This place is not very far from Central Station, and there's a good amount of outdoor seating. This place almost looks like a Thai food stall and the prices of the dishes are moderate and should be under $20. I had a Pad See Ew noodle dish with prawns, and it was pretty good, not the best version of the dish, but the prawns were great and the portions were good. The prawns were probably the plumpest prawns I had. We were also able to share our dishes. One of my friends had a spicy pork dish. Unfortunately, I was not able to remember the name but the flavour was really good, definitely had a good amount of spice I was looking for in a Thai dish. Another one of my friends had a Thai salad, and it was also good and I thought the vegetables were fairly fresh. The people at this place were very friendly. They are kind enough to make sure you have enough water to drink and serve them in large plastic bottles. If you want to use the toilet, it's hidden behind the counter. Overall, I had a tasty Thai dinner here, and although it is probably not the best Thai restaurant, I thought the quality of the food was significantly better compared to other mediocre Thai restaurants I have visited. Hopefully, this will still be a great choice for some fairly inexpensive food in a city like Sydney.

Seafood pad thai

Had seafood pad Thai. Not very special, the taste is quite plain instead. Not a fan. Pad Thai at Yok Yor is tastier which is a few steps from here. The place is quite small, hard to fit a big group. Beef boat seems to be popular, I will try next time.

What a little gem! This modest little sidewalk café, with a larger-than-you'd-expect indoor area,…read moreis a complete surprise. Located in the popular "The Rocks" tourist area, it is full of charm and staffed by the friendliest folks you'll meet in Sydney. You felt happy just walking by the place. It was full of energy and bustle. We ate there twice, once for breakfast and, since we liked it so much, went back for dinner. Both were outstanding. Service was great. For dinner, I was just in the mood for a simple Burrata Salad and a Spaghetti Bolognaise. Now, the Rocks is not an Italian place, but their versions of these dishes were among the best I've ever had. My partner had the fish and chips, and raved about that too. If you can prepare such simple dishes so beautifully, I can imagine how good the other items on the menu must be. When we left, the woman I imagined to be an owner gave us a wonderful thank you and farewell. THIS is the way to run a small tourist spot!

Really popular place. They have street seating and indoor. The only thing available when we went…read morewithout waiting was inside. Inside wasn't bad, the table was big and the chairs comfortable. We were waited on immediately. Servers fly around like dancers, it's actually pretty impressive. Our food arrived in no time. My wife had fish and chips and I had lamb and rosemary pie. She enjoyed her meal. Mine was different than I've had before. It was still ok but I wouldn't order it again. Others would probably like it, it just wasn't for me. We didn't have any dessert but as you walk in the door they have some wonderful looking pies and cakes. Do yourself a favor and save room for one of those. I messed up and didn't try something. This is actually a really cool restaurant that I would like to try again. I wouldn't let one dish that didn't hit my taste buds keep me away.

A couple of my friends recently returned from Sydney, and they said if there was only one place…read morethey suggest I go to eat - it was Restaurant Hubert. Specifically the happy hour. So I did! They don't take reservations for their 5-6pm happy hour. You can only line up at 5pm when they open. We got there right before 5pm, and there were probably 10 to 12 people in line. Once the doors opened we were led downstairs to the bar area. It's a very dark, and feels like you've been transported to another time and place. We decided to try one of each of the food items on the happy hour: - Duck Parfait - Good. Classic French item and they do it well. - Brandade d'anguilles fumée - OK. I know it's eel, but wasn't very distinct from any other fish. My least favourite dish. - Saucisson Sec - Good. Simple. - Fleur de Courgette - Very good. Delicate and delicious. I should've ordered two of these. - Normandy Burger - Very good. The one item my friends raved about, and it was clear why. A burger with the best ingredients is hard to matched. I got the extra side of fries which is equally good. Best dish of the meal. Service was relatively good, except at one point they asked if I wanted mayo for my fries (very French) and I said yes, but it never came. Other than that, quite good. This was easily my favourite meal of my trip, holding up to high expectations. I would return on my next trip to Sydney.

I have dreams of Restaurant Hubert's Chicken Fricassée…read more Note: Happy Hour is walk-in only from 5PM - 6PM. We came on a Thursday evening and there was a line inside prior to opening. I highly recommend getting here early to get a seat during Happy Hour and stay after to enjoy some live jazz after 6PM. The restaurant was easy to locate with a sign upfront. The entrance is just a door in the wall with spiraling stairs leading you to an underground jazz bar and restaurant. It's upscale and romantic, but several other people were dressed casually. We sat on a shared table with three other strangers until we ordered off the full menu and our Chicken Fricassée arrived. The service is top notch and everyone was attentive, polite, and kind. We started off with the happy hour menu and ordered the Duck Parfait. I didn't know what to expect. The croutons were crispy and delicate and the duck liver was easy to spread and airy. The Normandy Burger was juicy and the bread was fluffy. But the star of the night Chicken Fricassée - wow! Incredibly tender, juicy, and garlicy. The sauce had a mashed potato buttery, smooth texture. Absolute must get.
