    Curry puffs

This eatery was unlucky enough to open just before a bike lane was being constructed in front of it. 3 months later, the restaurant is still there and the bike lane construction is still there also! I guess if it can survive this disruption, the place will be around for awhile yet! David's is labelled as a Malaysian eatery but the menu contains both Malay and Chinese dishes. This place is nicely decorated but make no mistakes, this is a quick in and out type of eatery where you order one plate/bowl type dishes, eat and then leave. I had the curry puffs which were light and flaky but the filing wasn't the best and it came with bottled sweet chilli sauce (minus 1 star!). The Laksa was better tasting however there was a lettuce leaves in it (minus 1 star!) - who has lettuce in their Laksa?!

After housing Sushi Tei and Pasta Goma, this spot now belongs to David's Kitchen: a Malaysian/Thai food court chain also located at the MLC centre and the Colonial Centre. The interior is exactly like it was previously at Pasta Goma excluding the Sushi train. The ordering is done like at Pappa Rich i.e. by using an ordering form. MALAY SATAY CHICKEN SKEWER 6PC $8.8 This chicken satay is huge! 6 skewers at that price quite generous. There were also very generous with the sauce. I would happily consider this a satisfying meal with some rice on the side. The chicken was tender with all the flavour coming from the satay sauce. The heat was enjoyable and probably would want more of the charred flavour but at these prices I can't complain. CURRY PUFFS 4PC $6.8 The pastry was crisp and not too oily. The filling is vegetarian and made of sweet potatoes, potatoes and peas. It was OK but I would not order it again. SEAFOOD LAKSA $13.8 The laksa was good, the first hurdle for me was to get use to the creaminess as it was more than I am normally used to. It tasted more Thai than Malaysian. The seafood and tofu toppings were on point. I was disappointed that it only included rice vermicelli noodles instead of both rice and egg noodles but that is more due to my preference. The spice level was moderate but slowly grew on me.David's Kitchen - seafood laksa HAINAN CHICKEN RICE $12 The chicken rice was the star of the night. The chicken was so silky and succulent with limited bones. The rice and all the condiments were delicious. The chili sauce is a revelation, I don't normally enjoy chili that much but I could not help adding it to each spoonful. It was really well balanced when combined with the rice, chicken and ginger sauce even though the chili kick was strong. Conclusion Compared to the previous tenant, David's Kitchen offered food court prices in a restaurant atmosphere. The service was kind of clumsy but the 20% opening discount made up for it. The laksa broth was more creamy than usual but not bad. However, it is the Hainan Chicken Rice that was my favourite dish. @thesydneynoob

David's Kitchen just kind of blends into the street because the shop signage isn't the most appealing. simple writing lets punters know of its existence. The interior of the place is a lot more appealing and welcoming. The menu is classic Malaysian style street food. I decided I would opt for Chicken Laksa because it's always a good option from a Malaysian place. The Laksa was served in a perfect shaped bowl and arrived steaming. The fragrances that were wafting through the air were indeed as good as it tasted. This dish instantly warmed me up. While the size was generous I felt like it needed a little bit more chicken pieces as they were hard to find and one or two of the pieces inside were a little fatty for me liking. With that said the noodles were really good and there was some egg in there too and it left me with just the right level of satiety. More chicken pieces and redesign the outside and you guys will be doing good. Would come back to try some more options from the menu.

Inside wasn't bad, the table was big and the chairs comfortable. We were waited on immediately. Servers fly around like dancers, it's actually pretty impressive. Our food arrived in no time. My wife had fish and chips and I had lamb and rosemary pie. She enjoyed her meal. Mine was different than I've had before. It was still ok but I wouldn't order it again. Others would probably like it, it just wasn't for me. We didn't have any dessert but as you walk in the door they have some wonderful looking pies and cakes. Do yourself a favor and save room for one of those. I messed up and didn't try something. This is actually a really cool restaurant that I would like to try again. I wouldn't let one dish that didn't hit my taste buds keep me away.

I understand it can get a little busy at times too, so there might be a wait. PRO TIP: make an online reservation and get seated right away! I had a couple of goals when visiting Australia... and one of them was to try kangaroo. The Rocks Cafe delivers with their Kangaroo Filet! And you can get it gluten-free! The sauce is a bit rich for me, but you can brush some of the sauce off with your fork. If kangaroo is not your thing, then there are plenty of other options on the menu... and the crowd around us all looked pleased with their orders. After you are done with your meal, you just go to the front/reception area and pay your bill. Easy peasy! Overall rating: ****FOUR STARS**** Gluten-free rating: ****FOUR STARS****

A couple of my friends recently returned from Sydney, and they said if there was only one place…read morethey suggest I go to eat - it was Restaurant Hubert. Specifically the happy hour. So I did! They don't take reservations for their 5-6pm happy hour. You can only line up at 5pm when they open. We got there right before 5pm, and there were probably 10 to 12 people in line. Once the doors opened we were led downstairs to the bar area. It's a very dark, and feels like you've been transported to another time and place. We decided to try one of each of the food items on the happy hour: - Duck Parfait - Good. Classic French item and they do it well. - Brandade d'anguilles fumée - OK. I know it's eel, but wasn't very distinct from any other fish. My least favourite dish. - Saucisson Sec - Good. Simple. - Fleur de Courgette - Very good. Delicate and delicious. I should've ordered two of these. - Normandy Burger - Very good. The one item my friends raved about, and it was clear why. A burger with the best ingredients is hard to matched. I got the extra side of fries which is equally good. Best dish of the meal. Service was relatively good, except at one point they asked if I wanted mayo for my fries (very French) and I said yes, but it never came. Other than that, quite good. This was easily my favourite meal of my trip, holding up to high expectations. I would return on my next trip to Sydney.

I have dreams of Restaurant Hubert's Chicken Fricassée…read more Note: Happy Hour is walk-in only from 5PM - 6PM. We came on a Thursday evening and there was a line inside prior to opening. I highly recommend getting here early to get a seat during Happy Hour and stay after to enjoy some live jazz after 6PM. The restaurant was easy to locate with a sign upfront. The entrance is just a door in the wall with spiraling stairs leading you to an underground jazz bar and restaurant. It's upscale and romantic, but several other people were dressed casually. We sat on a shared table with three other strangers until we ordered off the full menu and our Chicken Fricassée arrived. The service is top notch and everyone was attentive, polite, and kind. We started off with the happy hour menu and ordered the Duck Parfait. I didn't know what to expect. The croutons were crispy and delicate and the duck liver was easy to spread and airy. The Normandy Burger was juicy and the bread was fluffy. But the star of the night Chicken Fricassée - wow! Incredibly tender, juicy, and garlicy. The sauce had a mashed potato buttery, smooth texture. Absolute must get.
