Singha Thai is certainly not the only Thai restaurant in Frenchs Forest - there are more than a…read morefew, that's for sure. But amidst tough competition, Singha Thai is a bit of a soft spot for me. Firstly, the staff are SO nice - whenever you walk in they're pleased to chat to you (but not in an annoying, won't shut up kind of way), and are very quick to seat you and take your order. I'm a poor student (ergo, someone who rarely tips), and I always tip here - the staff are just so nice! The restaurant itself perhaps leaves a little to be desired - up a flight of stairs, this is regrettably not somewhere I'd take my less than agile Grandma. It's also really dark inside because of the way the building faces. The decor inside is also a little tired, a little faded. But the food - oh, the food! - the food makes up for this small oversight in restaurant decorating and furnishing. As do many Sydneysiders, I adore Thai and am well versed in it. And of the many suburban Thai's I have partaken in, Singha Thai Restaurant is pretty excellent. The menu offers a feast of Thai favourites - spring rolls, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew and Thai Beef Salad are all done well here. The food always comes out quickly and with a smile, and taste amazing. It also tastes fresh - none of the slightly gluggy taste that so many Thai restaurants fall victim to. As one who lives in the area, I go back time and time again - for both the food and the excellent service.

With a catchy, fish-related name, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Wholly Mackeral's only…read moreproduce comes from the sea. While all things fish are definitely at the forefront of the company's business model, the seafood store also offers what we've come to expect from businesses of this nature - bacon and eggs rolls, coffee and sometimes even salad! But as the name suggests, fish is the business! And what a range of fish - just as easily as getting into the delicious fish 'n' chips for a quick Friday night meal, one might also buy filets of Atlantic Salmon for a Sunday lunch, or Sydney Rock Oysters to enjoy with a celebratory glass of champagne; it's all there. And it's fresh! So fresh, so tasty... As with all seafood suppliers, the supply and demand of the industry and seasons dictates the price and availability of certain fish, but Wholly Mackeral is certainly not unreasonably priced. It's also got character - the owner is a familiar figure around Glenrose Shopping Centre, normally spotted with a big grin on his face. His staff are also usually familiar to those in the area, given the penchant of local boys and girls aged 14 - 18 to get a job at the fish shop. Normally quite prompt, you could be in for a wait at about 6pm on weekend nights when nobody can be bothered to cook, but it's pretty quick as a rule.

And some people say it's a long wait for food but it's not I usually can order a full fish and chips and get it inside 5 minutes. And even if it's a slight weight it's so worth it, the fish is amazing, the chips are perfect and the burgers are none the less great. The service here is great the prices are a little pricey for some people but usually they bump you up to a bigger burger or more chips. They always thank you, and are Generally nice. It's set up in a great area and the boys at my soccer club are always up there early tucking in on the mega great chips. This place is a 5 star and doesn't get much better when you wan't a quick fish+Chips.
