With a catchy, fish-related name, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Wholly Mackeral's only produce comes from the sea. While all things fish are definitely at the forefront of the company's business model, the seafood store also offers what we've come to expect from businesses of this nature - bacon and eggs rolls, coffee and sometimes even salad!
But as the name suggests, fish is the business! And what a range of fish - just as easily as getting into the delicious fish 'n' chips for a quick Friday night meal, one might also buy filets of Atlantic Salmon for a Sunday lunch, or Sydney Rock Oysters to enjoy with a celebratory glass of champagne; it's all there.
And it's fresh! So fresh, so tasty... As with all seafood suppliers, the supply and demand of the industry and seasons dictates the price and availability of certain fish, but Wholly Mackeral is certainly not unreasonably priced.
It's also got character - the owner is a familiar figure around Glenrose Shopping Centre, normally spotted with a big grin on his face. His staff are also usually familiar to those in the area, given the penchant of local boys and girls aged 14 - 18 to get a job at the fish shop. Normally quite prompt, you could be in for a wait at about 6pm on weekend nights when nobody can be bothered to cook, but it's pretty quick as a rule. read more
