This is a great secret find for great chinese food in the spring valley/la mesa area. While I was there, a couple drove all the way down from Hemet for the chicken wings (garlic/salt and pepper wings). Tried those and they were super good. Like secret recipe and people drive down from Hemet to Spring Valley good. The combo is two items and rice or lo mein and additional side orders are 1.89 plus tax. I got a ton of food for $10 and change for 2 people with lots of left overs. Kim was really friendly and cool and excited that this was my.first visit and that I found it through yelp. I grew up in South San Diego with the 99 cent/ item Chinese food establishments and this place today, is pretty nostalgic to my childhood. ARE YOU READING THIS!!! Of course skeptics will ask about the quality, and my answer to them is this: Excellent! So far I've had their orange chicken and the Peking ribs. The orange chicken was predictably tasty given how it looked; that is, just the right amount of batter, well-proportioned chicken pieces, and delicate hint of orange citrus flavor to cut the savoriness. Having been to a host of fast food Chinese spots, I would've never expected them to serve Peking ribs the way they do. Only comparing this to other "fast food Chinese" (ffc), Beijing Express is BOMB! Better than any Panda Express or 99cent Chinese you will ever come across. I've driven past it several times in the past but I'm honestly not a big fan of ffc. I'd much rather go to a restaurant. I went here on a whim because of the good reviews here. Express Chinese food does not impress me unless it is freshly made dim sum. That being said, for 1.49 an item this place is a real bargain. They give really big portions. The fried stuff is just like Panda's stuff which is kind of hard coating and thick and sometimes overdone. The stir fries dishes that aren't fried are decent especially if you get them early when they just come out or when they put in a new batch. The people are nice and since it is a cafeteria style place you get the food immediately if not sooner! I give it 4 stars only because I give family owned restaurants extra credit since many times there is more love into their food and also more hard work and passion. I got 2 orders of orange chicken here and 3 egg rolls for under $5. The portions are very generous like what people said. I have enough for breakfast tomorrow (yeah breakfast!). Why 3 stars? Well it is cheap, but it definitely isn't that great of Chinese fast food imo. My favorite items that we tried were the fried shrimp, the orange chicken, and the sweet and sour chicken. The fried rice wasn't good, which kind of killed it for me since fried rice is my addiction. Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad it just didn't taste like I expected it to. Also, the char siu was mostly tendon or bone which was disappointing.
