We…read moreare so sad to be leaving and heading to TK because I am not ready to be leaving WHPS yet. Ms. Robin, the preschool director, is phenomenal. From our first visit to campus she made us feel welcome and comfortable. I was so impressed that she knew every student and parent walking around as we visited. To this day, she still knows everyone who passes through the gates of WHPS Collins. She is always available for questions, to discuss any concerns, is an incredible support for the teachers and is actively engaged with the school's programs and students' development. We first had Ms. Monica and Ms. Zulay and now have Ms. Kathy and Ms. Candy as teachers. They are INCREDIBLE. The teachers tailor their teaching styles and content to the students in their class and their interests. My daughter is an observer and the teachers have helped push her a bit outside of her comfort zone and she has grown so much over the past two years. There are a ton of extracurricular activities that families can opt into. We've done dance, Spanish, tiny stem, soccer, and tennis. We've also done the summer camp at WHPS. It is a bit of an extension of the school year but with lots of fun water experiences. There is a pool with a lifeguard and available swim lessons. The Parent Association Group (PAG) is highly involved. So many fun experiences like a Halloween parade and Snow Day as well as cultural celebrations like Lunar New Year and Holi. Also, the school is incredibly safe. Double entrance doors which is right in front of the director's office. Codes and sign-ins required by all. Great relationships with LAFD and LAPD who respond quickly if there were to be any concerns. Also, they do a number of drills that are age appropriate for the students. I know it can be scary to discuss drills at such a young age, but it is necessary. With so many preschool opportunities in the west Valley, we were in a bit of a decision paralysis until we got to WHPS Collins. It was an easy choice and we are so glad our daughter has had such a great experience.

Our son had a nanny until he was 18 months old, and while we knew he could benefit from more structure and socialization as a high-energy, outgoing little guy, I worried constantly about whether he would nap well, eat well, and receive the love and attention he needed to truly thrive in a daycare environment. We originally planned for a very gradual transition with a few weeks of partial days. By day two, his amazing teachers reassured me he was doing great and encouraged us to rip the bandaid off and try full days. They sent photos throughout the day and were always quick to respond whenever I reached out for reassurance or updates. To our surprise, our toddler eats and sleeps at school like a champ. He now runs into school each morning and is never quite ready to leave at pickup. When we arrive, he's usually dancing, laughing, and clearly so happy and fulfilled. I've also been incredibly impressed by the thoughtful programming and enrichment opportunities the school brings in--from special guests and themed activities to PGA events and other unique experiences that make each week feel engaging and intentional. Choosing this school has been one of the best decisions we've made for our family, and we truly credit his incredible growth and confidence to the dedicated teachers who go above and beyond for both their students and parents. Special thank you to Alejandra and Brianna for making our little guy so excited about school.

For the parent of a child with special needs, this facility is to be avoided at all costs and for those lucky parents of mainstream children: beware. There is no one watching over your student. Blake, my son's case coordinator, conducts himself like a pre-adolescent Neanderthal on muscle relaxants. He is incompetent, unresponsive, unprofessional and lazy. He has no knowledge of special education beyond that of a first year psych under-grad and he is proud to announce in meetings that he is unavailable the day after Halloween because he is planning on partying too much. Often, when his responses are actually intelligible, he is typically saying something along the extremely erudite lines of, "I don't know what you want me to do about it." Drug and alcohol abuse run rampant on campus and students walk off campus as they please despite not having passes. Administrators are distant and uninvolved and do not seem to mind having unprofessional individuals under their employ, who do irreparable damage without sanction or consequence. Parents, look elsewhere and do so quickly. Do not let the pretty buildings fool you.

This school is very interesting to say the least. I just wanted to give my advice on how the school…read morecan perhaps improve a bit to get five stars (first the good) -This school exceeds any expectations of what a public school is and looks like in Los Angeles. The school overlooks beautiful hills and houses. -They have a better arts center than most community colleges. -The facility is clean. -Beautiful sports facilities:including a pool, baseball field, track, football/lacrosse field -The custodians are friendly -FOOTBALL HAS GONE UP IN RANKINGS and THEY HAVE RECRUITED A FEW PEOPLE FOR CERTAIN SPORTS so needless to say they are projecting in the right direction with that (back in the day they were a joke) -The parents seem very actively involved especially with donations -many kids I have met here were very studious and went off to good colleges. However I am not certain that it is because of the school itself that allowed for that to happen. Most of the parents are college educated. -Los virgenes is a very small school district and a good one at that -the parking lots make the school look like a luxury car dealership (lol) The real reason why I am writing this review though is because Ive seen some weird stuff here. To be honest it is not unusual for students to be behaving the way I am about to explain (they are teenagers after all) but I am complaining because I know that if I had children who went here I know I would want there to be more security. There is a serious problem with the gate that stays open by the track. i see kids coming in and out whenever they please: During second period, right after first period or whenever! They just walk out in groups. And no one says anything. Not the PE teachers who are teaching their classes nor the maintenance or whatever. They get into the car and literally speed off and some come back later. Some are actually staying in their cars (doing who knows what...very suspicious behavior). As i said earlier this is really common in high school (so just because I am saying this does not mean that you should be worried, it's virtually everywhere), but I think what Im trying to say is that the school does not care if your child stays. Maybe the parents dont either sooo i guess it's all swell! but just thought id say something!

Dear Lauren Sahara, Assistant Principal…read more I am writing to express my absolute outrage and deep concern regarding the repeated assaults my son has suffered while under the supervision of your school's staff. Despite prior assurances that a safety plan had been established to protect him, these attacks have continued, exposing not only a gross failure to provide a safe learning environment but also a serious negligence of duty by your administration. My son has been slapped across the face, kicked, and pushed to the ground on multiple occasions. In one particularly disturbing incident, a chemical powder was poured onto him, resulting in a severe itching reaction that required him to change his shirt. Not only was this physical assault unacceptable, but no one at the school contacted us--his parents--to inform us of what happened, which is a direct violation of both moral and professional responsibility. Your continued assurances of a "safety plan" have clearly proven hollow, as incidents persist unchecked. Your staff's inability to adequately monitor students and ensure a safe environment raises major concerns that the school is understaffed to an illegal or dangerously inappropriate degree for its student population. This ongoing lack of accountability and supervision has directly contributed to the repeated victimization of my child. As a result of these repeated assaults and your administration's consistent failure to protect my son, a police report has been filed with the LAUSD School Police (File No. SP#255655). This step became necessary only because the school has not taken appropriate or effective action. I demand an immediate, written response outlining: 1. The current status and details of the so-called safety plan. 2. All disciplinary actions and investigations that have been conducted to date regarding these incidents. 3. A concrete plan--effective immediately--to ensure the safety of my child moving forward. Should this matter continue to be ignored or mishandled, I will have no choice but to escalate it to district officials, legal counsel, and state authorities for further investigation. Your administration has failed in its most basic duty--to protect the students entrusted to your care--and this will not be tolerated any longer. Sincerely, George pearson

This school was once great. Current administration has been awful with handling safety issues…read moreinvolving students. They constantly seem to turn their face or say nothing when students are assaulted. This lack of care by them results in more violent actions (just read recent comments). My child has been punched and I've been called and told that it's no problem and that the student that hit my child is actually in more pain because of the way they hit my child or that my should have not been near the situation so he wouldn't have gotten hit. Since when is a victim the aggressor? Seems wise to teach this. Recently, my child was choked in class and when the teacher was informed of the situation, nothing was done. This is the constant theme at Woodlake. If you care for your child's safety, it's best to take them to a school that will prioritize providing them a safe learning environment.

The progress our child has made with Andy's help has been tremendous. He has a wonderful way of combining play with structured learning, which keeps the lessons fun, engaging, and effective. Coach Andy has a gift for making kids and parents feel at ease. His energy, patience, and positivity create an environment where children are excited to learn and grow. Swimming is such an important life skill, and I feel grateful knowing our child is building confidence and ability in the water that will last a lifetime. This used to be a great school. Unfortunately, the current administration has failed this school,…read moreits staff, its parents and its students. I have witnessed first hand, rudeness towards parents coming from the current administration. Not to mention how the current administration cancelled all afterschool dances, a weekly afterschool zumba class, and various school fundraisers. The classrooms were stripped of microwave ovens and refrigerators. Cooking classes are no longer allowed. The current administration even went as far as closing the Administrative Assistant's position. The school no longer has a vice principal. The animal area containing chickens, rabbits and ducks was also removed by the current administration. The school yearbook was also cancelled. And even considering the fact that the current principal spent 10 years in the US Army, he also cancelled the morning flag salute over the schools public address system. Teachers and staff have had their positions closed, and/or their hours cut. Many staff have been moved by the principal to other schools and centers, usually women over the age of 40, and replaced with much younger, inexperienced staff, new to the district. Some older female staff have been forced into early retirement by being placed in assaultive classrooms by the current administration. Now honestly, would you want your mother treated that way by her employer after 30 yrs of dedicated service? There was once a "family" vibe here, and now moral is at an all time low. Unfortunately what was once a fun, positive school for students, staff and parents is now simply a dismal facility used to only benefit the current administration. Its time for a change.

That made me realize how much teacher-led, paper-and-pen instruction helps students focus and learn. As a transfer student, my daughter was warmly supported by teachers, her advisor, and the staff. The community is small, caring, and dedicated. I also joined a Board of Directors meeting before enrolling and was impressed by the school's organization and forward-thinking leadership. VIPHS reports an 81% college-acceptance rate, compared with under 60% at many nearby public high schools. The average class size is about 20 with a 15:1 student-teacher ratio, versus 30-35 students and ratios in the high 20s elsewhere. VIPHS is a close-knit, welcoming community that genuinely cares for students and prioritizes personal attention and academic excellence. Plus, drop-off and pick-up are so easy, a small but real bonus for families!
