My two sons attended Ivy Academia from kindergarten through third grade. Unfortunately, I had to…read moremake the difficult decision to withdraw them in February 2025 and begin homeschooling due to the administration's repeated failure to ensure their safety and well being. Over the course of several months, my sons endured physical assaults, verbal harassment, and even threats of gun violence, all racially motivated! Despite my repeated reports and requests for intervention, the administration consistently failed to act effectively. Instead, I was met with dismissal, excuses, and what felt like gaslighting, while the student responsible continued to attend school without consequence. The final incident occurred when my son was attacked from behind by the same student, who choked him, hit him, and clawed his face, leaving lasting scars. Despite the severity of this assault and the ongoing pattern of violence and racial harassment . I never received follow-up communication or accountability from the school administration. To make matters worse, as of October 26, 2025, the same student contacted my son with racist and homophobic slurs. The continued lack of accountability is unacceptable. Shame on the administration for prioritizing the protection of a bully over the safety of the victims.

Rockland is like an extended family; going there is basically like doing home schooling - only you don't have to be teacher. Our son truly loves learning there and has become more and more independent and desirous of learning than ever - at age ten! He really impressed his computer coding teacher recently with his knowledge of Algebra 1, radius, perimeter, diameter, public void and private void (all of which is total greek to me...). It made my heart soar. And the other day he went into our library, pulled down a volume of Edgar Allen Poe and proceeded to copy "The Raven" word for word - for FUN! Where the heck did this come from??? And his fluency in Latin is truly amazing. Can't wait to go back to Rome with him again where he'll be able to translate everything for us this time - including the ancient graffiti! ; ) Cannot say enough about Rockland Academy. This past year with the pandemic was a challenge working from home, but Mrs. Glenn and all of the teachers made it as streamlined and efficient as possible, constantly checking in on him and going over his assignments whenever he needed help. But what they might not tell you is that everyone who I've known who has kids there feels their kids are in exactly the right place for them. We were so lost trying to find a school for our son that was a fit for him. He struggled at several other schools and while we could see that he was bright and kind, he was also disruptive in class, completely lacking in self esteem and with an incredibly low self image. Nothing we tried seemed to work. Rockland Academy was one of several recommendations we received from a psychologist we were working with. When I spoke with Rocky on the phone, their approach sounded amazing, and after all the struggles we'd had, what I was hearing sounded almost too good to be true. When we visited, the kids there seemed so happy, and so well behaved, we honestly were not sure that our son could ever get to that place. One year later and I can say that what they deliver is exactly what they told us from the beginning. Our son is going through an amazing transformation, both academically, but more importantly in his emotional state. Rockland's methods help to build confidence and self esteem by giving the kids opportunities for repeated success. The teachers there are incredibly patient, kind, and at the same time they are firm in their guidance teaching the kids to respect everyone else as well as themselves. Our son has some learning challenges including processing delays and ADHD, and the other schools we looked at all seemed as if they were going to lower the bar to make it work for him and the other students. We were not happy about that approach and it felt to us like sending him to one of those schools would be accepting that he could never be what we hope he can be. Rockland is the complete opposite in that regard. At Rockland the kids are held to a very high standard, higher even than other public and private schools our older kids attended. The teachers there believe in the kids, and demonstrate to the kids, that they are all capable to performing at a high level. The staff there have the resources and patience help every kid meet their high standards. I don't know that we as a family will ever be able to sufficiently express our appreciation to Rocky, Diane, and the entire Rockland Academy team for what they have done, and continue doing, for our son.
