Update: Our toilet recently started leaking, and since we already knew the cast-iron sewer lines beneath our house were nearing the end of their lifespan, we called Carlos and Frank to come back out. They discovered that the toilet flange had originally been installed slightly below the tile, which caused the wax ring to lose its seal over time. They made a temporary repair using a double wax seal, inspected the plumbing beneath the house, and recommended replacing flange as well as the aging cast-iron pipes. We scheduled the work for the following day, and they arrived with a crew to replace the toilet flange and all of the cast-iron piping beneath the house. Since the repair, the leak is completely gone and our drains are no longer slow. Everyone was tidy, professional, and easy to work with. This was no easy job because the leak was 20ft high and it required scaffolding. We had a plumbing emergency during the LA wildfires last week, our septic line had backed up and none of the toilets would flush. I opened up a Yelp project and was immediately contacted by several plumbing companies, including Before/After. Another plumber arrived first for an estimate and proceeded to attempt to snake the line, however his attempt failed and he suggested we would need to hydrojet for hundreds of dollars. Carlos arrived while the other plumber was working and noticed the snaking machine used was not very effective. Sure enough it didn't work and I called Carlos to come back. Carlos was able to clear the line in a short amount of time and took the time to explain what was clogging it (camera views and all). Eventually we would need to hydrojet the line or replace the line altogether due to rust buildup, etc. but we are very appreciative Before/After was able to clear the line by snaking and saved our day. read more

In my condo, my next-door neighbor knocked on my door to tell me water was leaking out of my unit to the steps outside leading down to the subterranean garage. I checked by downstairs bathroom to find water all over the floor - apparently from the base of the toilet. I had to turn off the water to my unit in the garage to stop the leak. I shut off the water from the toilet and didn't use it for a few days until Carlos could come out after Thanksgiving to fix it. He removed the toilet and then replaced the wax ring and rusted floor bolts, then bolted the toilet back down again. After testing it several times, he found no more water leaking from the base and into the crevices of the tile floor, which I had been accustomed to seeing for the last six months. It is a relief to know I don't have to worry any more about getting my feet wet through my socks when I go into the bathroom downstairs. For a nominal additional fee, he also replaced the fill valve and gasket in my upper bathroom toilet so it would flush. That toilet used to annoy me by refilling every hour until I shut it off and stopped using it. That was two years ago. Now suddenly I have another functioning toilet in the home again for less than the job would cost me for a plumber to come out and fix that problem alone. Carlos did such a good job with my shower a couple of months ago, I didn't waste time calling any other plumbers. He is friendly, informative, and after talking with him a little, you can tell he is trustworthy unlike a number of plumbers I have dealt with in the past.
