This was such an amazing, filling brunch! The only downside is that you'll always have to deal with Del Mar parking. To find this restaurant, you have to go up some stairs and then you'll walk into a nicely decorated seating area with a beautiful little outdoor terrace. Service was amazing. It took a while for us to decide what we wanted to order--as per usual--but the waitress was so patient and gave us all her favorite recommendations. We ordered: - Octopus Appetizer (5/5): This appetizer even beats the octopus I've had in Spain. It's a must order, so tender and flavorful. I could eat this everyday. - Trio Dips (5/5): Could not stop eating this before our food came out. The pita is so soft and the dips are all so unique. This is a quaint restaurant. Go upstairs to check in with the hostess. The upper deck can see the ocean horizon. The menu is very nice. A little bit for everyone, including the exotic eater because there are escargot (snails)! It was fresh tasting with the herbs and garlic butter, not overwhelming. The bee/honey cheeseboard looked beautiful and was very nice. We weren't offered extra pita bread, and maybe we could've asked, but we were ready to eat our entrees. The inside was really cute and perfect spot for take view pictures. Good for date nights or birthday celebrations. The service was quick and they really try to help you out as much as possible. As for the food, it was good but the oysters were served a bit raw and it was a bit funky taste because it was supposed to be grilled. Luckily they helped us out. We also got seafood risotto and it did taste a bit frozen like it tasted like freezer burn. But the salmon, mussels and burgers were super delicious and 10/10. So I highly recommend getting that. I tried this restaurant a couple of weeks ago and coming here was a shocking experience to say the least. I don't typically leave reviews but I had to for this restaurant. Food was not bad. I ordered a Denver steak medium rare, and it came out over cooked, not rare at all. Still ate it as I don't like to complain at restaurants especially when they're busy. My date and I shared the trio dips, which was our favorite thing. It was pretty god. Now let's get into why I gave this place a 1 star. The level of unprofessionalism was UNBELIEVABLE !!!! An older gentleman, who I can only assume was the manager or owner, made my date and I very uncomfortable. I notice raised voices, my date and I look over and this gentleman is YELLING at the young girl at the front desk. He was speaking so loudly that my table as well as tables all around us could hear the ruckus . After he finishes berating this poor girl, he starts to yell at anther gentlemen just moments later. The man he was yelling at was our server!!!! We felt so bad for them, it seemed as if the manager was purposely trying to embarrass his staff. In my 37 years in Del Mar, I've never seen such unacceptable behavior. To yell at your staff, who by the way were running around the entire time we had been there, in front of paying customers was beyond unprofessional. My date and I felt very uncomfortable and awkward the rest of the time. I will never eat at a place that treats their staff this way, and you shouldn't either!!!! Will not be coming back again, I refuse to spend my dime on restaurants that have no basic respect for their guests and staff. read more

The ambiance is nice with stunning views. No doubt about that. The rock fish and frites, well the fish could have used some salt and less grease... a few pieces were very soggy from the greasy batter. I didn't complain but I should have asked for a new batch. It may have help me enjoy the meal better. The feta fries are just that fries with feta. They were difficult to eat because the feta cheese kept falling off. I don't think these two items, fish and feta fries, should be served in a small basket rather they should be served on a plate. Especially if you're going to get some feta on your fries! I asked for salt but it was sea salt in the smallest container in which the lid had to be open in order to get out the salt. Those chunks of salt were too big to season the fish, therefore all it did was slide right off. If you like truffles then you'll like the truffle ketchup. The tartar sauce was pretty good. It was ok service regarding lunch time folks. It got a little packed and the staffs did their best to tend to the customers. Ever so often they would come by and automatically top us off with water. Some music was playing, the wind was blowing and they put on the heat lamps because my friend was cold. I can say I went, but I don't think it's a place I'd frequent. Came here on a Saturday morning for brunch right when they opened and was seated immediately. The service was prompt but slightly too quick, as we sat down the waitress asked if we wanted any drinks, we told her we had to look at the menu first. We ordered the crab cake for the table and it was literally 1 crab cake to split amongst 4. But the crab cake was good, filled with crab. We got the fish and frites and the French toast with a side of bacon. The fish was crispy but could have used some.finishing salt. The French toast was good, however the waitress forgot the bacon and had to ask to bring it. The other 2 people in our party got the breakfast burrito and poutine. They seemed to like it. I really like their setup at Beeside Balcony - they have a decent size outdoor seating area so you can enjoy the sunny Cali weather They have a speakeasy in the back past the bathrooms that you enter through the picture of the woman. The speakeasy is a very small, dimly lit room with candles and flowers on the ceiling. It seems like it would be a good date night spot I tried several apps including the shrimp with pesto sauce, lamb meatballs and crab cakes. All of them were good but the shrimp was amazing! Came here with a group of 4 and we ordered a fair bit of things to share including 2 Crab cakes (shareable by 2 at best), Mussels, Seafood Risotto, Grilled Spanish Octopus, Pesto Shrimp Linguini, and the Branzino. Overall the ambiance was nice but it was a little packed (we got seated right in the middle where all the foot traffic was. The food was prepared with a vigorous amount of spices.. which didn't exactly lend itself to tasty plates. One suggestion is to tone down the saltiness of the Grilled Octopus. It was way overcooked and seemed to be drowned in salt so it was tough to finish. One shining beacon however was the mussels which were plentiful and we cleaned the plate out by ordering bread to pair with the rest of the sauce. We shared a chicken sandwich which looked fabulous on the table next to us. It was described as a tempura chicken breast, mango cilantro slaw, pepper jack, sriracha aioli, brioche, & fries. It actually also came with onions (my date would have asked for no onions if we knew), and even though we loved the tempura coating, unfortunately, the sandwich was dry as the slaw was cut up veggies (no sauce to it at all), and the aioli was missing. I got the lavender bee's knees and really liked it! My friend got the French 75. I do think this place was a bit pricey for what you get. We each ordered drinks and appetizers. I again ordered the fish and chips. When the food came, I was in shock. The fish batter was actually burnt, and the fish was completely dried out. The HH food was a complete joke. Are you kidding me? Two tiny bite sz meatballs and two tiny fish tacos that contained one teeny tiny piece of fish. This was delicious! It's their take on fish and chips. The fish was fresh and the batter was crispy. Ratio of fish:batter, fish one! The tempura batter was crispy but not extra crispy. It came with a lemon remoulade dipping sauce that was SO good; it was a mash up of Tartar sauce, I think chipotle, and lime. I cannot get over this sauce! The fries were nicely crisp with a hint of rosemary and came with truffle ketchup. Presentation was cool, kept it clean and very picture worthy. HIGHLY RECOMMEND PRICKLY PEAR LEMONADE ($6) - everyone by now knows I am a lemonade lover (especially when I eat fish and chips). So when I saw they had a list of different lemonades, I just had to get one that I've never heard or tried before.
