Robb is very knowledgable about bikes and really easy to work with! With spring here and summer just around the corner (even with our sketchy Chicago spring /winter weather), tons of people are trying to get their bikes tuned up and ready to ride! Us included :) My son outgrew his bike and we luckily got one donated, but we wanted to make sure it was in ride ready for him since he would use it daily! Beers for Gears to the rescue since the local big shops were booked a couple of weeks. It was easy to book with Robb through the Scheduler, I was able to also leave him notes and directions of what I needed, as well as what parts we wanted changed and checked. Hubs dropped off the bike at our scheduled time, texted Robb to let him know it was dropped off and left a case of beer with our parts. Service was speedy, he texted hubs with a couple of questions and all was good by that evening! The price was reasonable or at least we thought so since we haven't needed our bikes tuned up before. He replaced the chain, the inner tube, and did the usual tune up stuff. We got a credit for the beer. read more

I found Robb here on Yelp after searching for bike shops in my area. I reached out to him and he replied right away. I let him know I was in need of an annual tune up(even though it's been about 3 seasons since I've had one, bad I know)he directed me to his page to pick out a time slot. He has a great no contact system set up during this social distancing time. I dropped the bike off at his house and he called about 1 1/2 hours after to let me know it was ready for pick up. Robb was super friendly, knowledgeable and easy to work with, he did a great job on my tune up and picking up and paying was a sinch,(you can even pay him in part with some good beer if you like). Then you can stop reading (or continue reading and send your friends to Robb.) If you don't do all of your own maintenance, then you should definitely take your bike to Robb! Last night, I made an appointment for 8am this morning and then I went beer shopping. This morning, I showed up with my bike and Robb greeted me with a great smile and a firm handshake. Robb is the truth! Brought in a 25+ year old bike with a whole slew a problems that Robb was able to fix at a very reasonable rate. It went from not being functional to riding nice and smooth. Such a great alternative for anyone looking for a simple bike tune-up. This business really fills an unmet need : you pick a specific 1-hour time slot, show up with your bike and cash/beer and an hour later you pick up a tuned bike! Robb spent time with me afterwards to explain what he did, and what maintenance will likely need to be done in the future. Compare this to the common alternative: drop bike off at a big shop, wait three weeks +, pay $80 to pick up bike without any explanation of what was done or will need to be done. I had an issue making my original appointment, but Rob was still very accommodating. I took my bike in and it was ready that day, just awesome!! Took it out for a ride and it is just perfect! If someone asks me if I have a "bike guy," I now have an answer. Discovered Beers for Gears online and actually suggested it to my neighbor first who had a great experience. Recently, I made an appointment with Robb to bring in my bike for a minor tune-up. Robb was able to diagnose the issue and make the necessary adjustments. Was able to drop my bike off and pick it up the next day. Robb's pricing is about half of what a brick and mortar will charge and will indeed discount your work for a six pack! I went to a local bike shop and they quoted me $79 for a bike tune up with a one week lead time. I had a hard time justifying the price since I have two bikes. I did a quick google search and found BFG. I emailed Robb and he responded immediately. I scheduled an appointment for today and dropped off my two bikes. He was very friendly and knowledgeable! Just a real nice guy. Bought a used road bike and after finding out prices and turn around times from shops I somehow found Robb and now i'm very happy that I did. I set up my appointment for 8pm that same day,(which was super easy) ended running a bit behind which when i called him he said it wasn't a problem. Went to his house gave him a rundown of what I was looking to have done and ended up with a price and a turnaround time that was way beyond reasonable which was awesome. Picked up my bike all ready to go the next morning and while he was helping me to my car he took the time to show me that my bike rack wasn't on right and put it on the right way for me. I was looking for a good bike shop to have my Surly ECR serviced and came across Robb and thought I'd give him a try. Dropped off my bike at his house and a little over an hour later Robb called and he had my bike ready to go with everything fixed! Bike rides great with no issues. Robb will be working on all my bikes going forward. It may feel a little weird going to a private residence but don't let it stop you. I had an appointment to get my bike tuned up and have my back tire replaced. Even though I received 2 reminders from Robb, when I arrived at his home for my appointment, he was not there. I waited about 15 minutes, called him (and he did not answer). When I was on my way home, he called me to say that his daughter's softball game went longer than expected. I'm not sure why he could not have called me to tell me that (I probably would have waited, as I traveled 40 minutes to get to his house). It was a total waste of my time. Robb did a great job of tuning up my bike and fixed a few things I didn't even know was wrong. He asked me a couple of questions about the break levers on lthe handle bars and adjusted them for me.
