I think people love this place solely on the fact that it has been around for so long. I did walk in close to closing, (unbeknownst to me at the time, they close at 3) so that might have played a part in the lack of friendliness. A side note that I very rarely mention, the bathroom was less than pleasant. It is outside of the restaurant like an old-school gas station. It smelled bad and had no ac so it was the same temperature as the outside (which was 98°). The tater tots were the same as what you would get from the frozen food section of your grocery store. The beef sandwich was on a cheap bun that was somewhat mushed. The beef lacked flavor and any seasoning Ang their horse radish sauce had no real taste of horseradish to speak of. read more

A bucket list place for us to try in Orlando, we've heard about it for years and finally made it here. We got there at opening because it's only open for 4 hours on Saturday. I've been hearing great things about this place for years, so I was excited to finally try it. Walking in feels like stepping back in time -- it has that old-school charm that reminds me of the restaurants from my childhood. It's clear they've stayed true to themselves all these years. One helpful note: they now take credit cards, but not American Express. I ordered an extra-large pastrami sandwich and an extra-large beef sandwich. We FINALLY made it to Beefy King and it did not disappoint!! I cannot believe it took us so long to get to this Orlando staple, but it will now always be in our weekend lunch rotation. It's located in one of our favorite areas of Orlando, the Milk District. For lunch I had the Platter which came with a Roast Beef Sandwich, Cole Slaw, Large Beefy Spuds and Kosher Dill. How have I never been here before?! Beefy King is an iconic Orlando staple. The restaurant hasn't lost its iconic timeless charm. Walking into the restaurant you're transported to the late 60s with the only modern part being the prices. I got the Roast Beef sandwich with spuds. My guest got a Pastrami sandwich with onion rings. Ordered the roast beef sandwich and added lettuce and tomato. Could have gotten the platter for 12 but did not want the tater tots. The pink lemonade was sweet and refreshing for a hot day. BBQ pork was also ordered and it was better than the roast beef sandwich. It is a shredded pork and sauced already. Pretty tangy sauce and you can add more if you want. The tater tots were good but not a real sharing size. The sauces were pretty good and the roast beef needed a little moisture added to it as well as seasoning. Beefy king is an Orlando institution. If you don't know, now you know. The roast beef sandwich does not require any sauce to taste delicious. But the friendly staff at the window will always ask if you'd like some and recommend the horseradish sauce that is freshly prepared rather than the packets. I typically visit the drive-through on my way home pick, so I can't speak as much to the ambience except that it is old school, comfortable, and nostalgic when I do venture inside. Milkshakes, onion rings, cole slaw, and the famous 'beefy spuds' (tots) are some side items to round out your meal. The drive-through line can get a little busy so if you're in a hurry, just know it may take some time as your order is made fresh. I needed a quick lunch after an appointment and this place was nearby. It was small, filled with regulars and a friendly environment. Reasonably priced, very tasty and hit the spot. I got the pastrami and at first was surprised at what looked small, but as an American used to oversize all the time, it was actually just right. We came here with some friends one day for lunch. I had been hearing about the legendary Beefy King for about all eight years I've lived in Orlando, but I just hadn't made it out there yet. Shame on me, because it was absolutely perfect. From the beat-up look of the building, making it look like it was, indeed, made in the 60's. To the menu that was unapologetically simple. The ambiance of this place was old, comforting, and I could have stayed in that building all day long. It brought me back to childhood. Wonderful. The service was great. Easy. You go up to the counter, place your order, and retrieve it when it's done. Not a lot could even go wrong. As for the food. This was the true shining star of this place. I got an X-Large Roast Beef Sandwich with a side of Beefy Spuds. I also got to try a Regular Bar BQ Pork Sandwich with a side of Onion Rings. Just excellent. I won't go into too much detail, because with how much I loved this place, it's going to just sound sarcastic, but it was like some nice man made this food for us in a backyard barbecue. We went to Beefy King a few years ago and it was really good. Only complaint at the time was that the buns were soaking wet by the time we got home. So, today we went with a game plan. We decided to eat in. We ordered a ham sandwich, a few beef sandwich platters, and a lemonade. I will say the lemonade was really good, sweet, not tart. Perfect. Our food on the other hand... As soon as we got our food we sat down, the sandwiches, which were all made to order, were ice cold. The buns were not toasted or grilled, and there wasn't much difference in the amount of beef they give you from the regular size to the extra. The buns were also already soaking wet. The sauce is a combination of the house sweet sauce and the house spicy sauce. It's fairly thick and has a great kick! (Not sure I could handle the house spicy after the "Jack" combination!) :) What a great sandwich! Also, a shout out to the drive through employees. I wasn't a fan of Beefy King when I first tried it, and I'll say I'm still not a fan. Honestly, I like Arby's WAY better. I could eat an Arby's Sandwich without sauce and I'd say I had to add a ton of sauces to Beefy King's version just to get through the dry meat. I ordered the XL version and it was pretty loaded with roast beef. The beef had a good flavor, but it wasn't hot. I think they kind of "reheat" the meat when they're making the sandwich, but it didn't carry through the whole pile. Maybe a regular size would have been hotter. Then the bun was stuck to the paper and ripped a whole in the bottom. Since the beef was more chipped than sliced, some fell out. The horsey sauce was too thick to get out of the plastic containers and the BBQ sauce was really runny so it was a messy experience too. The Tots were Excellent though. Hot and crunchy! Maybe I'll try a different meat or something if I go again (I probably won't). Cold, dry roast beef isn't what an iconic Orlando restaurant should be serving up. read more

Like stepping out of a time machine from a block away, Beefy King welcomes you with a classic mom and pop diner look and feel. The food prep and set up area looked modest but seemed very efficient. My Junior Platter containing a roast beef sandwich, cole slaw, large Beefy spuds and kosher dill pickle arrived in a short time. The roast beef was sliced fresh and was tasty and juicy. The spuds were crispy and firm, the cole slaw hit the "classic" button, and the dill pickle was crunchy and "dill-y" as expected.
