I'll also mention she was kind, helpful, and gave me her recommendation as asked and showed me how by ordering it a certain way I would get a special price on drinks since I was having 2. How lovely! So... clean, inexpensive, delicious, and the atmosphere was nice. It was very airy also, larger than I had expected. Cocktails were a grapefruit raspberry lemonade something and a long cosmo. A few years ago the owner took out the pool table, ripped out the standard 1970s faux Victorian decor and generally turned the pub into a bland, generic suburban drinking hole. I know, I sound bitter but tacky decor and pool tables are what local pubs in London should be about. The one bonus of the refurbishment are the heaters outside which you can control yourself rather than freeze/roast to death at the discretion of a sadistic pub landlord.

I had a brisket pie that was essentially upscale Shepherds Pie, which is my favorite thing. The brisket was House-smoked and really great, and they used turnips along with potatoes for the mash. The veggies were clearly farm local and fresh...not a canned veggie in sight!! I was a little disappointed in the tap list. They took up several handles with marginal beers from outside the U.K., and I had hoped for more local flair. That said, they did have TWO locals on draft, and both were excellent...I just wish there had been more. All in all, I'll certainly be back the next time in near Heathrow and want upscale pub food.

Plus it helped that the dish (once I'd added some salt) was fairly good. Certainly better than expected. The other reason is that you can now pay the bill either on an app or just on the website. That's fixed one of the major issues I had - you could never track down a waiter to pay the bill when you wanted to get going.

The first time I came here, I tried to pay with my American bank card (which has usually worked fine abroad), but they weren't able to accept it and I had to go to a nearby ATM. The staff were patient and apologetic about it, however. The restaurant is a lot bigger than it looks on the outside. The placemat has a map, which is pretty amusing but not super necessary to study. It's easy to just go around the stations. The farthest stations from the main seating area are the Italian, Mediterranean, and Brazilian stations; both times we went, the seating around that area was empty--probably they just try to seat everyone in the same area to make it easier to clean up. There were pizzas, paella, salads, and pastas in the Italian and Mediterranean area, and also a server who walked around with Brazilian meat on a stake. In addition, there was a variety of Asian stations, including sushi, Chinese food, dim sum, a Thai curries/soups/stir-fry, and Indian food. The starters section was mostly fried food like fries, mini samosas, and spring rolls. There was a huge selection of desserts, including mini mousses, ice cream, and an Eton mess, among others. There's a chocolate fountain, but I didn't find there was that much to dip in the chocolate. There was an okay selection of fruit, but nothing overly fresh or impressive. The drinks area included complimentary soda, water, fruit juice, and coffee. There's definitely a wide selection, and for less than £20 a head, it's a pretty good deal if you're hungry. None of the food is of particularly impressive quality, but it's all pretty tasty and it's a good choice if you're with a group of people with different tastes. Some of the dishes/plates didn't look completely clean, but that was fairly rare. The servers were usually quick about clearing the old plates off the table.

On Friday and Saturday nights the Walpole opens as a traditional Bistro. With great home cooked favourites. If you fancy going in the evening make sure to book and also make sure are hungry! Portions are huge! Quality very good. This is my favourite local restaurant. Local cafes pubs and pizza are all pretty good but the Walpole is the top of the pile for me. Give it a go!
