The Beech Tree Inn is 10 stars. My parents stayed here when they came to visit and received A+ treatment the entire time. It's easy to get to (right near Coolidge Corner), and easy to check in (even if you're after hours). They have breakfast for you every morning, and you can either eat in your room or eat at the big dining table downstairs. Downstairs is a great opportunity to chat with the other people that are staying at the BTI. I would recommend trying to get a room with your own bathroom to prevent the awkward walking through the halls in a towel moments with strangers. My favorite part about BTI was the freshly baked cookies and snacks they had every afternoon. It was like coming back to a home with all the great smells of food cooking and people happy to see you. The staff here was wonderful - so friendly, helpful and accommodating. They didn't mind that I hung out with my parents at the Inn and even ate some of their food. Another plus is the VHS library they have. They have tons of movies you can watch for free, and they have tons of guidebooks for those visiting and unfamiliar with Boston. I stayed here in March, 2011 for four nights while attending a meeting at the Harvard Medical School, about a 15 minute walk away. It was significantly cheaper than the Best Western by the medical school, and much, much nicer. What could be better? It is very nicely decorated and clean. The breakfast was an excellent continental breakfast that included home-baked sweets and plenty of healthy options. When returning in the evening, I often had tea and a freshly baked cookie or brownie. It's close to Coolidge Corner, which has plenty of places to eat out. It's near the T. The wifi was free and fast. I was delighted to stay at the Beech Tree Inn, and highly recommend it. read more

An amazing gem in Brookline, easily walkable to Longwood Medical area and Coolidge Corner. We stayed for five nights while my husband was hospitalized at BI. During perhaps the most stressful time in our lives, this Inn was a place of solace, comfort and peaceful respite. The smell of fresh baked food wafting up the stairs drew us down every morning to the comfort of the dining room and an assortment of cereals, baked goods, proteins and fresh coffee. After spending the day in the hospital, we found an array of desserts and treats as we arrived back for the night. Beds were comfortable, plenty of pillows and blankets, room temp could be controlled, water was hot and it was quiet. Parking is safe, reasonable and secure allowing us to walk to Brookline Ave most days. In fact, walking was often quicker then driving due to high traffic on Longwood. Very safe to walk, well lit and pedestrian traveled. T stop (green line) is walkable. There is a refrigerator for storage like drinks and leftovers but there is no microwave to reheat. We met several returning guests which speaks to the quality of this property. I'm happy we found The Beechtree, we will be back. read more

My wife and I celebrated our 20th Anniversary this summer with a one nite stay at the Beech Tree Inn. It was perfect and romantic--- a true (and welcome) escape from our kids. Ask for the room on the top floor--- an old fashioned Queen bed in a large room, with a small but adequate WC (sink/shower) Despite a very hot August nite-- we were comfortable with a choice of either AC or a ceiling fan in the room. Breakfast is a delight-- a wide selection of homemade baked goods, granola, juices, coffee & tea, newspapers. The inn has a parking lot if you need a car, otherwise it's a short walk to 2 different subway stops on the MBTA's Green Line that can take you into downtown Boston within minutes. Coolidge Corner is a short walk away-- casual shopping, movie theatres, nice restaurants. Overall a very nice experience, quite calming. We plan to go back again! read more

So we stayed here last night and could not have asked for more. This is the best B&B that we have stayed in. Prompt checkin on arrival - with fresh baked goodies, coffee and the biggest selection of Tea I have ever seen. Really comfy bed and every little thing that you would need. The breakfast was amazing and all home made - and it was just the perfect end to the perfect holiday (vacation). My husband and I stayed at the Beechtree Inn for 4 nights in late October 2011 while on a Halloween inspired trip, which included a visit to Salem and other autumn activities. We were delighted to see that the front yard garden had been filled with pumpkins for the holidays! The Inn exudes a charm and coziness that is unparalleled and I would definitely stay there again despite some negatives. First off, the greeting we received was less than welcoming. The front door remains locked and we were actually let in by another guest upon our arrival. When the Innkeeper arrived a moment later, she never introduced herself and walked quickly away into the office (apparently we were supposed to follow her, but did not know that and ended up having to find her). I will say to her defense that she seems like a very shy person and we had arrived earlier than expected, but it was a disappointing first impression. Luckily she did become more friendly once she warmed up a bit, and she was always very helpful with restaurant suggestions, directions, etc. during our stay, we would have just preferred a more welcoming greeting. The Inn is lovely and I certainly understand that it is an old home (over 100 years), however there are areas where upkeep is definitely lacking: peeling wallpaper, carpets that need cleaning or replacing, peeling linoleum, siding that had faded/cracked paint and there was literally a BANDAID that was used to repair a crack in the glass lampshade in our room. The Inn is kept clean and tidy, I just think that items that can be replaced without losing the antique charm of the home, should be. I also have to mention that the bath towels were the scratchiest and roughest I have ever used - it was so bad that I would bring my own towel if I stayed there again. Clearly they use bleach to keep the towels clean and white, but they really need to throw a little fabric softener in there or something - I felt like I was drying myself with sand paper! The breakfast provided by the Inn each day is a wonderful continental with delicious freshly baked items, however breakfast service ends rather early at 9am. This may not seem too bad, but I prefer to sleep-in on my vacations and by the time my husband and I were showered and dressed for the day, we often missed out on most of the items. Luckily, the baked goods and fresh fruit are kept out all day, so we were at least able to grab coffee and a treat, but it would have been nice to be able to enjoy the other offerings as well. The neighborhood of Brookline is wonderful and quaint and there is shopping and restaurants within close walking distance as well as very close access to the T (Boston's Light Rail), so the location was convenient despite not being in the heart of Boston. Overall, we had a wonderful experience, a cozy charming Inn, a wonderful location, knowledgable staff and delicious treats throughout the day - if the Beechtree Inn would simply make a few easy changes it would earn 5 stars from me! read more

The Beech Tree Inn was a delightful place to stay. The innkeeper went way above-and-beyond to accommodate my late arrival and odd travel schedule. It was my first time staying at an Inn and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The house is a quite large with approx. 10 rooms. There were freshly baked treats when I arrived and 24-hr tea and coffee. My room was very clean. I had a private bathroom was across the hallway for which a robe was provided to make the walk more comfortable :) I unfortunately didn't have time to have breakfast. I wish I had, because the innkeeper was a great baker. Definitely stay here if you're looking for a unique and enjoyable experience. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a few days last summer and we LOVED IT. We stayed in the topmost room, under the eaves with a private bathroom across the hall. It was so gorgeous and welcoming. I heard so much about the lavish breakfasts and the fresh cookies baked every day but I still had to experience it to really understand how amazing it was! All kinds of fresh cookies, take as many as you want, tea, coffee, a little library, a kitchen you can use to warm up your dinner or leftovers, near incredible restaurants, and the bathroom was huge! And so well-stocked with comfy towels and nice bath supplies. And they were so nice. I asked them how I might get a subway/bus pass for just a day around there, and they just handed me one that another visitor had left that had a couple of days still on it. This is such a charming bed and breakfast that I don't even know where to begin. Janette, the lady at the Front Desk, is extremely welcoming and kind, and responds fast to emails. The delicious smell in the kitchen will make you want to curl up and sleep there, but the rooms are nice too. Our bed was comfy, everything was clean and the hostess was very sweet. Only downsides for us were the size of the bathroom (so tiny the door bangs into the toilet), the breakfast (it was really yummy but basically just an assortment of baked goods, nothing "hot"), and the fact that you easily hear what's going on in other parts of the inn (we heard a woman in her room below us laughing through the vent). None of these were huge bothers since we only stayed one night, everyone in the inn was considerate and generally quiet, and we basically just needed a place to crash since we were in town for a concert. Considering the price, I'd definitely stay again. read more

I totally enjoyed my two night stay at the Beech Tree Inn. I went there last month for surgery at B&WH. It was convenient and Janette made me feel totally welcome, even though she had no way to know in what condition I'd return from the hospital. She even gave me a medical discount. I was on the third floor and the rooms up there were lovely and as quiet as they could have been. Never heard a thing in the rest of the house. If I hadn't been gluten free I would have indulged too much in the amazingly beautiful goodies she had out all the time. The breakfast was very good too. The location is also as good as it gets and the parking in back is a godsend. Only wish there were two Janette's so that they'd be there all the time. Lol! Stepping into this inn I felt as if I was transported into an earlier era. Not only are there vintage touches throughout this b&b, but the kitchen radio plays big band classics from nearly a century ago. The innkeeper Janette is just as lovely and sweet as the inn. She really made us feel at home. She graciously allowed us to stay a bit past checkout in the common area to work - and I'm actually typing this review from the dining room. Our only regret is not staying longer. Other pros: Station with tea & coffee available all day Variety of delicious home-made baked goods available in kitchen all day Great breakfast Robes provided Gilchrist & Soames bath amenities Parking available (for small additional fee) Wonderful walkable neighborhood FYI: We stayed in room #5 which has a private bathroom outside of the room. I've stayed here multiple times, including during my wedding weekend. The inn is cozy and has a very local (Boston) feel. The innkeeper (Janette) is very accommodating and creates an incredibly homey and calming environment. She takes great care with the physical environment and in preparing delicious breakfast foods. A lovely and charming bed and breakfast in a wonderful area of Longwood Avenue just a few blocks from Beacon Street, Coolidge Corner and Trader Joe's. Everything about this excellent inn is thoughtful, intelligent and comfortable! Innkeeper Janette is amazing: highly competent, helpful and welcoming. There's coffee and tea offered almost all day with small tasty snacks set out for between meal nibbles. The room we stayed in was delightful, with a plushly comfortable bed, great A/C (it was very hot outside!), and high ceilings with a ceiling fan, and a night table on either side of the bed. A fine place to stay, very close to Coolidge Corners and the T. Parking is not included, but is cheap as Boston goes. Coffee and baked goods are available all day. The room we stayed in was medium sized with a queen sized bed, TV and private bathroom with shower. The only thing missing from this B & B is a sitting/reading room. One more review from me. I started booking process for 3 rooms for Oct starting in Feb. 2016. My father & Wife, my sister and mine. At that time the Inn was wide open for available rooms. We have stayed here for years! gone through several Inn keepers and such.. always was a great experience and such a nice gathering place for my family from NY, Calif. and us MN. This year I could not get a response.. via email, web site, phone.. with me trying over and over again .. maybe twice a month or more. Finally this week in July I get a response saying that the rooms are "still" not available and we should look into suggestions sent. When I started the rooms were available and was never told otherwise until July. It is frustrating.. we are not bad guests.. family all in our late 50's - 80's ... and long time good return guests. Once we were told we had too many people occupying most the rooms... so we cut back to just my family.. it is sad to me.. and we are very disappointed! It is HOTC weekend and we come to race and visit with family.. sad to get this sort of care... read more
