Much to tell about this historic, charming Inn, plus and minus, it requires a good deal of tolerance and adjustment compared to the typical inn/bed and breakfast. Clearly every effort has been and is being made to accommodate guests. The lady on the desk was professional and very patient with a tired traveler whose GPS had taken him and his traveling companion to the wrong address, the affiliate location, 1750 Beacon Street. This was in spite of a phone call informing us of the issue and an inquiry to confirm that we would arrive before 9:00 P.M. when the front desk closes for the night until 8:00 A.M. the next morning. The location was perfect for the early morning medical appointment which occasioned our stay. If you are a light sleeper and in Beacon Street facing rooms, the trolley passing from 6:00 A.M until Midnight might be a problem. However, this is a city location. Normal traffic noises are not an issue. Booking.com failed to inform us that our reservation was for Room #7 which has a private bathroom across the hall, not in the room. In fairness to the Beacon Inn, this is properly noted on the Beacon Inn website. The room was spotless neat and clean with extra blankets. Heating and ventilation was fine. The bathroom was equally clean and properly equipped. Bring your own hair dryer. Perhaps, we should concluded on our own that our room would be up three flights of stairs with rooms another flight above, no elevator, not easy for access for anyone with mobility issues. The price of $116 plus an additional $36 for parking was extremely reasonable for the location in Greater Boston. Parking was convenient and close with excellent, in person direction on how to access. Breakfast starts some time after 8:00 A.M. We left at 7:15 for an early medical appointment. Reading previous reviews, it is clear that significant efforts with notable success have been made to correct deficiencies. read more

This inn helps you to feel you are in old Boston. It is close to both Kenmore and Coolidge Corner so you have plenty to do. Enoelia was super helpful, particularly about parking and general getting to and from the hotel. It was a terrific spot for my family of 4 - two rooms, cozy and fun times for each of us. read more

I stayed in the Symphony Room at the Beacon Inn on 1087 Beacon St for the Thanksgiving break. A few days before my stay, an employee called me to ask if I would be arriving after their business hours. I let them know I was going to arrive late since I was flying from Los Angeles. They coordinated a way for me to pick up my keys and complete my check-in the following morning when an employee would be available. The Inn itself was charming and had the colonial Boston vibe I wanted to experience, being that this was my first trip to the city. The room was spacious and clean and I appreciated the wooden trim everywhere. The bathroom was a bit outdated and the shower was small. I would have like the shower to be more clean than the state I found it in and for the towels to be a bit more fresh. The Inn is located right off the Green Line train which was very helpful since I had planned to used public transit during my stay. I would recommend this place for its closeness to public transit, Fenway Park, and Boston University. The check out process was very easy; I wish I caught the name of the woman who helped me. Don't be deceived by what you read or the photos you see. No way is this inn a bed-and-breakfast. Their so-called luxury amenities are non-existent and breakfast consisted of packages of oatmeal and boxed cereal left in a very unappealing and dirty lobby. Our room was moldy and had a window air conditioning unit held in by duct, tape and cardboard. We tried several times to reach out to management, but received no response. read more

If you're going to stay here, while the front desk person says that you can't park on the street there that's not exactly true, after talking to locals in the area it is very unlikely that you will receive a ticket and if you do it is less than the $35 the hotel will charge you to park while not taking any accountability for what happen to your car while parked in their parking spaces, overall the stay was fine but they need to better train their staff as she was quite rude. We even told them it was for our three year anniversary. So disappointing. read more

Stay elsewhere and save yourself the headache. I would give negative stars if it were an option. They charge you $33 per night to reserve a parking space (they created three parking spots in the lot behind the building with paint on the ground) and they want you to leave your car keys in an unsecured box in the lobby "in case they need to move your vehicle". They don't mention the park about the keys until you're there checking in. We reserved our parking space well in advance and when they asked for our keys I told them I wasn't comfortable leaving them out for anyone to have access to. The woman working didn't have an issue with it. Two days into our stay we returned back to the room around midnight and all three parking spots were taken up. Since the front desk is only staffed 9a-10p we had to find an emergency number to contact. The girl that answered the phone said she would come take a look. After almost an hour of us sitting in our car waiting for an answer we were finally told that they would handle it in the morning and that we should park on the street and they would pay for our parking ticket. Where the girl told us to park on the street was literally under a sign that said "tow zone". We were left to fend for ourselves after midnight in a new to us city not having any idea where to put our car. The next morning we were told that if we wanted our parking spot back we had to give them our car keys. The girl working the desk was clueless and tried to have this puff out of chest attitude. We asked for a manager to contact us and all the girl would say was, "I'll pass along your concerns". We asked multiple times and we're never allowed to speak to management. After this huge ordeal no apologies, no compensation for the huge inconvenience, nothing. For a B&B their pathetic excuse for a breakfast is muffins, croissants & old oatmeal packets. You have no control over the temperature of your room, the heat blasted all night on the 4th floor and it was so hot. They buy the cheapest towels & toilet paper possible. The Inn was charming and the room had great vintage charm. The bed was very comfortable and we appreciated the blackout curtains. However, the breakfast was just sad. Microwaved croissant, box cereal, a couple of bananas. No decaf coffee available. Surely they can do better, even during CoVid times. And then... The bathroom towels. Old, ratty, tiny, rough. My boyfriend and I stayed here for a little trip/getaway from Philly. We loved it! It was so homey and welcoming. We checked in late (around 10:30 PM) and they left us a little envelope with our keys and information tucked away in the entryway. The bedroom was adorable and lived up to our expectations. We did have the room with the bathroom detached which meant we had to walk across the hall to use it. However, that hardly bothered us as we spent most of the days out and about around town. I would highly recommend this inn! PS: the pastries and bagels that are downstairs in the common area are a great addition! PPS: DONT spend your money on parking. $30 a night? Charmless, Rundown Rowhouse with so much wasted potential Want a vintage rowhouse with Old Boston charm on beautiful Beacon Street in Brookline? Well Beacon Inn 1087 sure isn't that. The owners turned this old house into a hotel by merely adding wi-fi and a cold breakfast buffet in the lobby. That's it. The wallpaper in my room looked like it was there when Lincoln was President. No luggage rack for the suitcase. The room door could easily have been opened from the outside by anyone with a plastic card. The AC in the window was taped around the sides with masking tape. The bathroom was even worse: one dark ceiling light only, an ancient toilet and sink, and worst of all, an old tub with legs was made to serve as a shower by installing a shower curtain all around the tub. The bottom of the tub was curved, as it was not meant for standing, and with no grab bar it was positively dangerous. Afraid of falling, I didn't use it again after the first day. On the plus side, the hard-working housekeeper does keep the place clean, and the breakfast buffet had a nice variety of cereals, fruit, coffee/tea and fresh pastries. No place to eat them in the first floor lobby, so carry them upstairs to your room. This b&b could have been so charming if the owners had invested in some internal renovation. Nevertheless, that didn't keep them from charging $279 a night. I would never stay here again. read more

This hotel has a very quirky and charming aesthetic, reminiscent of George Washingtons private quarters. This place is not your typical hotel/motel- it is much more charming and vintage. The building is over a hundred years and used to be someone estate home-- the staircase and wood details are exquisite. Also, the staff Julie is very thorough and has a lot of good tips in the very entertaining and walkable neighborhood. I will stay here and recommend my family to stay here when we visit. read more

It kind of reminded me of a fancy Hostel. There is nobody at the desk past 6pm or so, the breakfast is continental quite basic with no where to sit so you have to take it back to your room. The walls in the room are paper thin (if you are given a ground floor room beware its very noisy), the room itself was nice, we loved the 19th century décor. We stayed in the winter time and man was that room cold in the morning, we stayed for two nights and we left very early on our last day the room was so cold. The staff we encountered seemed friendly and nice. They definitely need to spend some money and fix this place up a bit. Our room had some old double doors which led out into the lobby with a big wardrobe pushed up against it and the other side of the door was the table with the breakfast on so you could hear everything going on. Stayed for one night, the room was serviceable, but it was old and run down. I would be embarrassed to have someone stay in the room we were put in, and at $200 a night, plus parking, it wasn't exactly a steal. Wall paper tears and patches everywhere, haphazard wiring, plasma TV on wall, old CRT TV stuffed in a broken armoire in the corner, patches in the ceiling, heating / AC was annoying and difficult. (Kept getting up to turn it up or down). There's a difference between old and quaint and old and beaten, and I'm not sure what some of the others were seeing. Perhaps it depends on what room you get. One thing that was clear - we were initially assigned a different room, and they revealed "Oh, actually we moved to you room ___." My assumption is that whoever was initially assigned our room complained, and then was given our room. Either way, when we got a glance in the initial room, it was definitely nicer. The bed in our room was the best feature, it was pretty nice. The rest? Meh or worse. At least it was somewhat affordable compared to semi-last minute pricing elsewhere, the train was super convenient, the neighborhood felt safe, and the noise others mentioned didn't really bother us. I probably wouldn't stay here again though. I'd rather spend more next time. The parking they offer is ridiculous. Three of the smallest parallel spots ever in a narrow alley with fairly tight brick walls on both sides. If staying at Beacon 1087, I'd try to pay more for parking elsewhere and just rely on the trains / cabs / Uber. read more

I've been to worse places but I've also definitely been to better ones. Came here yesterday for a job interview and decided to stay at Beacon Inn since it was only for the one night. On my way to the Inn I received a phone call from what I could only assume was the front desk telling me that the front desk closes at 9 and no one would be available until the next morning at 8 am and since I have a late arrival time instructions would be left in the mailbox for me on how to get inside the building and retrieve my room key. That in itself already turned me off. My room was on the 3rd floor, very small, old fashioned decor with an uncomfortable bed and the bathroom was down the hall; which is annoying when you need to take a shower having to drag all personal items with you and when you need to use the toilet in the middle of the night. The standup tub is unusually high and the directions for the water temperature is backwards (hot is actually cold and cold is actually hot); very dangerous when dealing with the hot water. They also advertise free breakfast but when you go down all they offer is bagels, muffins, a few selected mini cereal boxes and coffee. Needless to say I won't be staying in this or any other place like this one again. Especially when the price is definitely not worth it. read more

What's great is really great: safe & convenient location, historic building, helpful employees, decent price. What's poor is really poor: unclear directions, tight parking, limited arrival times, mid-quality breakfast. If you are looking for modern, crisp, sanitized place, this is not for you; if homespun and unique is your thing, you'll love it, especially the wooden flooring. The colonial charm in an older building has evidence of retrofitted design, but the beds were comfy. Bathroom was better than I had expected. Street noise was not as much of an issue as the other guests were. If you get neighbors who are respectfully quiet, you'll have a great stay. Walls are really thin, so if you have carousers who come back at one in the morning, you will be awakened - or if someone coughs. My family members have loud coach-like voices at all times, so I would not bring them there. 1087 could not be any more convenient to the Green line. Lots of great food within walking distance. There's no seating for breakfast, so you carry your food back to your room where there is one chair & desk, so one of us sat on the bed and ate off the nightstand. Not horrific, but a bit awkward. Helpful staff gave us dining recommendations and guidance on our first night, but had no idea how to get tickets for the T. I tried to pay the T driver on the first day with cash in hand, just until we could get to the automats in downtown, but he couldn't be bothered and said to just buy tickets when we got there - I felt guilty about riding for free, but the tram driver told us to, soooo.... read more

We had arrived by bus and the "T" from our home 5 hours away in Maine. We had baggage and hoped to be within walking distance from the Dana Farber cancer clinic. However, if you're not on a schedule, the continental breakfast is satisfactory when it comes out, the building is beautiful as well as historic, and the staff are very nice and helpful. There wasn't a daily room-cleaning service, and the age of the building made it sort of problematic in general. But it was too adorable to be upset over and all it's flaws simply added to the charm. We have to say , this is a great place. We needed to be in town the night before medical appointments, and had 2 B&B.com gift cards we wanted to use. I talked to Dylan when I made the reservation, and he was very helpful! Our appointment was super early in the morning, and he arranged for me to come back while my wife was getting scan, to settle up , the next morning ! On the night of our stay, we got there late, yet he stayed later than he was supposed to, and kept in touch with us as we got closer...He even waited outside in the cold rain, his shift over, to direct us to the parking place we reserved ! The building is historical, and lovely...( I like trains, so the Green Line outside is a plus to me!!) A very comfortable bed, we didn't wanna leave !! The Architecture is amazing in this brownstone... The folks that run this are perfect example of how to take care of guests , to my mind !! We'll be back!! I'd give zero stars if I could. The manager is an extortionist. Absolutely under no circumstances should you stay here for the Boston Marathon. I booked in June '08 and put down a deposit on a total of $476 for 2 rooms for 2 nights. Once all the hotels in town filled up (March '09) they called me to tell me the rate has gone up, but that i could cancel if necessary. Knowing I couldn't find another hotel on short notice, I had no choice but to agree. The new, disorganized and confusing confirmation emails they sent added up to $512 so I figured it wasn't a big deal. But when I got there, they claimed that I owed a total of $1135.50! Basically, I had to pay or get out. I'm currently denying the charges through Amex. As for the actual hotel (1750 location) - staff was friendly, helpful and sympathetic to the situation, trying to convince the manager (located in NYC) to honor the original charges to no avail. The room was noisy though. Lots of noise from the street outside, the radiator and the other rooms. Not a good place to get a solid nights sleep before a marathon. read more

I stayed in room 3 (room with detached bathroom) for a few days with my husband (in winter). Considering this comment, you should keep in mind that we paid more than 140$ in average for each night we spent there. PRO: - location on the T-line, if you come without a car this is a convenient location (6 stops from Park Street) - free water and coffee, apples and cereals in the lobby anytime CONS: - quite noisy (the window is directly on the street) so that you have to sleep with the windows firmly closed. - The central heating was for all rooms on the front. Our room was quite small and bad isolated, so we were suffocating at night (remember: you can't open the window because of the noise) or it was very cold, and we couldn't regulate it in our room. - The matress was extremely soft so that we both had back pains during and after our stay. - The wifi connexion was basically so bad (slow, interrupting) that we couldn't use it (and we were on the first floor) - The person we talked to on the phone making the reservation told us that the detached bathroom was very close to the room, but actually is was on the opposite side of the floor. It was not a long distance, of course, but you have to know that before making a reservation. - If you like an healthy, complete breakfast, this is not the right place for you. It is very basic, only sweet (bagels with Nutella or marmalade, very sweet muffins, little bags of Quakers muesli or Kellogs cereals - but apples!) - The staff is nice (most of them are students, really nice young people) but not all of them are, and the manager is especially absoluetly unpleasant, doesn't says even hello to the customers, which he ignores completely, and he appeared to be very unpleasant toward his employees. read more

This was the cheapest accommodation I could find in the Boston area. I needed to stay for three nights, so I was really looking for some place affordable. I saw the rooms posted on their website, and I was sold. I read yelp and tripadvisor reviews after I reserved a room, and I began to worry that I made a mistake. There are a lot of negative experiences for this inn, so I was beginning to regret being swayed by the great prices. The location is great for travels. The train station is literally right in front of the hotel, so I felt safe getting back late at night. The bed was REALLY comfortable, and they provide you with more than enough pillows and towels. I stayed in the Bunker Hill room. It is smaller than the other rooms, but pretty big for one person. It was larger than I expected it to be. The bathroom was detached, so I had to go across a short hallway. Like my room, I was surprised at how big the bathroom was. It did look a bit old, and there was a hole behind one of the pictures. But I loved the atmosphere, so I didn't mind. They provide you with free cable tv and wi-fi, which I was not expecting so that was a great plus :) The walls are pretty thin. I could hear people playing music in the room next to me, so I guess if you are a light sleeper that would be a negative. My only complaint would be the breakfast. I read on several reviews that it was a very small meal. I wasn't expecting anything grand, but it still took me by surprise.They only had little cereal boxes, bagels, muffins, and pastries for breakfast along with lots of coffee, milk, orange juice, tea (only one flavor of tea), and hot chocolate. The limitation of food isn't what took me by surprise...it was how stale the bagels were. I hurt myself trying to chew through my bagel, i just threw it out ( I NEVER throw out food) and ate 2 mini-cereal boxes for breakfast every morning I was there. There are a lot of restaurants nearby, so food shouldn't really be an issue. There is also a Wholefoods less than a 5 minute walk from the inn where they serve a breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet. They charge you around $9.00 by the pound. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay. It is in a great location, the rooms were beautiful and cleaned daily, the staff was friendly, and it was all for a very cheap price! I would definitely stay again. P.S. - They do tend to overheat at night, but the bright side is that you are never cold! read more

Booked the Beacon Inn in order to be closer to our 6 day old son in the NICU at Beth Israel. We only booked here since they were the only ones with an available room. While visiting our son in the NICU, I ended up having complications from the delivery and got admitted and booked for surgery immediately. Given the circumstances, my husband and 6 year old stayed over with me at the hospital rather than going to the hotel. We called the Beacon Inn immediately and the woman who answered was incredibly kind and said due to the circumstances they would reimburse us. Not seeing a reimbursement, I called today and was told because they couldn't rebook the room, even given our emergency circumstances, they wouldn't reimburse us even partially. We've been through hell and back this week and it would have been nice for some kindness from the Beacon Inn. It is incredibly disappointing. read more

The good- great location, right across the street from train(or bad if you're a light sleeper like me). Plenty of places within walking distance. 20 minute train ride to city center, or about $16 cab ride for the same. Nice place, friendly evening staff(morning staff....?) The bad- could use some TLC. Old nail holes in the wall, sway back mattress that was so squeaky it had to be deliberate to keep you from having any fun. Out dated tv, and poor use of space in our room, "Boston Harbor" The ugly- "breakfast" The shits not given are obvious. Pastries, fresh from the frig., cold bagels & english muffins & a semi- functional toaster. Cold cereal, one coffee, one tea, and a morning guy who shows no interest in providing any thing else. I stayed at the Beacon Inn for a few nights and I found it quite comfortable and charming. My room, bathroom and closet was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable. It is on a quiet street, but walking distance from more active areas, plus the T-line is literally right across the street. I ate very well just two blocks away at Waxy's, Busy Bee Diner and Sol Azteca. The breakfast was just fine and guests have access to free coffee and tea / snacks all day. Two of the staff members I saw frequently, Chris and Enoelia, were extremely helpful and kind! Overall, I had a great experience here. read more

Pros: - convenient location, across the street from T line - decent price considering I didn't book the room too far in advance, paid $111 for one night - free water, tea, coffee (Keurig), breakfast snacks (granola bars, instant oatmeal) in lobby - staff was friendly and helpful - free wifi - comfortable bed Cons: - no elevator, which sucks if you have to carry luggage up to the 4th floor - some rooms have their own bathrooms across the hallway - difficult to adjust room temperature, as heating/AC is central (my room got way too hot overnight, so I had to open the windows but then couldn't sleep well from the sounds of the T line across the street) - thin walls, creaky wooden floors (really hard to sleep when I could hear the neighbors going at it at 1:30 in the morning, don't think I didn't hear your squeaky bed springs...) - no staff around late at night or early in the morning Overall, I would not stay here again since it was pretty difficult for me to get any restful sleep. If you're coming to the area for business (e.g. interviews, like I was), do yourself a favor and shell out more dough for a different place. read more

We checked into this hotel at 3:30 on a Saturday. There was serious work being done on the train rails right outside on Beacon Street. When we arrived back from dinner, the crew was still working and we were told it would continue through the night and be over the next day. The noise was ridiculous and I even have recordings from when we were in bed that sound like the work is being done right in the room. The next day, we spent a lot of time on the phone with Sue - who was very nice but had not authority to do anything. She kept having to call us back - acting as a go-between with the supervisor who would not talk with us directly. They offered to move us to another room in another hotel but we had to let them know immediately and be out of the room by 5:30. Since we were in Concord, we didn't know when we would be back in the city and the construction was already done. We kept asking for a refund for the one night but the hotel would not respond to that request directly. I did call the credit card company to get the cost removed for that one night but the hotel refused to answer the call. And since we didn't actually leave the hotel during the construction, there is apparently no recourse through them. (I should point out - there is no on at the hotel desk during the night to whom we could speak). I would never stay at this hotel again and recommend no one else go as well if you can avoid it. The fact that they did not have the decency to do the right thing - talk to us directly or refund us for the one night - tells me these are unethical people who clearly don't care about customer service. read more

The manager is one of the worst businessmen I have ever dealt with. Would not give me the time of day on the phone when I asked to cancel my reservation and refund my money 2 hours after making it even though he hadn't charged my credit card. After many hours on the phone, I decided you know what, I will just stay at this place so I dont lose my money for nothing. 2 days before my stay, the hotel calls me and tries to change my room from two double beds to one bed. I respectfully decline because I am bringing a friend with me. They persist that I need to change rooms, or go to their other location a few miles away. Again, I decline and remind them that if they are willing to refund me, I will cancel my room at any time, but I need two beds because me and a friend are coming. They call me back 30 mins later and say that everything is all set, and I will have my 2 beds. I get to the inn and check in only to find that they do not have any rooms left with two beds. After maybe 30 minutes of discussion, they still refuse to give me my money back and tell my I either can leave and get no money back, or drive to their alternate site. Real customer service there. Instead I offer to stay in the one bed, and then they will pay me half of my money back. They agree to that and I stay with them. It has been 3 days since my stay and I have not seem that money back in my card. As a matter of fact, I just checked my account and THEY CHARGED ME FREAKING TWICE FOR THE WRONG ROOM AFTER THEY GUARANTEED HALF OF MY MONEY BACK. I AM LIVID!! This is easily the worst place to stay in Boston, please never stay here. read more

The beds were comfortable, rooms and other areas were always kept clean even when we were bringing in snow and slush from our boots. Breakfast was fantastic and there is always coffee and hot chocolate available. During snow storm, Dillan got us a taxi for 5 so we could make a medical appointment on time. We would never get that service at a Marriott or other chain hotel. You get so much for your money here! It was very quiet here, never heard the other guests. Really comfortable beds. Affordable accommodations if you're trying to go to Fenway for a reasonable amount of money. The bathroom was pretty bad (run down, cheaply renovated) and paying $20 for the tightest parking space ever was annoying. I stayed here with family, Reserved a parking spot and was told specifically to stay within the yellow lines or the rental would be towed. I was unable to fit the rental in the small space and had to park elsewhere. The parking fee was NOT refunded despite multiple requests. The 'breakfast" was laughable and they ran out of washcloths. I have NEVER had this bad an experience at any other bnb in brookline or boston. We are there at least twice a year. read more

My daughter and I stayed at the Beacon Inn for 4 nights. The staff, especially the cleaning woman, Enolia, are outstanding and very friendly. The rooms are very large, quiet and clean. The location is also great. I will definitely book a stay at the Beacon Inn again. read more

This Inn deserves NO stars. My friend and I were in town to attend a book group on July 18, 2012 and had booked one night at the Inn. We were given the Plymouth Room on the third floor, which was the fire escape for the rooms on the 2nd floor. The door into the room had a big alarm metal arm across the door. On close inspection of inside the room, we realized the door to the fire escape could be opened from the outside. The front desk person, Anthony confirmed this situation by physically going out on the fire escape and was able to open the door I slammed several times from the inside. I asked for another room and was told that the Inn was FULL that night. I asked for a refund and Anthony called David, the manager around 4:30 pm who said we would get a refund minus a $25 cancellation fee. I told him that was unacceptable as they offered an unsafe room and couldn't put us in another room and that I wanted a full refund to my credit card. Later that night, while at the book group, I received a call around 7:00 from Anthony saying that I would only get a credit for a stay at the Inn. I did not want a credit to stay at the Inn at another time. What I wanted was my credit card to be credited the amount of $177. My friend and I could not obtain lodging on the 18th and had to drive back to the Cape that night after the book group. July 19 - I called again to find out the status of the credit to my credit card. The person took my information and said they would call me back. - No call back. July 21 - I called again to find out the status of the credit to my credit card. Julie took my information and said the office was closed on the weekend would call me back on Monday. No call back. July 23 - I called again to find out the status of the credit to my credit card. The woman said that in the notes on the room, there was only an offer to give me a room to be used by August 31. I reiterated that I did not want to stay there and that I wanted credit. Finally, only July 25, I got a call that my credit card would be credited but NOT the full amount but $152. They took out the cancellation fee. I did NOT cancel the room. I refused to stay in an unsafe room!! DO NOT stay here, the manager cares nothing about the clients. read more

This is definitely a one-star hotel. While the staff is efficient, friendly and helpful, the accommodations are really worth $60 a night not $160. Parking is $25 per night extra and a shoehorn is required to get in and out of the designated ally parking spot. We were awakened in the morning by a jackhammer breaking up cement right under our first floor bedroom window. No discount of the room was offered nor was their any discussion when we booked the room that there would be major construction taking place during our stay. read more
