We have been here several times. The most recent visit was scary. The tax preparer was not very…read moreknowledgeable, and another tax preparer came in to help him several times during our session because he seemed unfamiliar with many aspects of the online form and had questions only more experienced tax professionals could answer. This made us feel very uncomfortable. After an extended time waiting for him to get it right, we finally signed and paid what we owed to the IRS. Later in the year, we received a notice from the IRS that we owed over $1000 more than we paid. We paid it immediately to the IRS because it had a deadline. We called the H&R Block office and left two messages, but no one returned our calls. We also sent an e-mail that was not answered. We finally had to go in person. They said that they would review the account to see if they had made a mistake. After a few weeks they called and said that the tax preparer did indeed make a mistake by putting an amount on a line that didn't pertain to us. We did purchase the "Piece of Mind" insurance that claims in the advertisement, "Additional taxes reimbursement: In the event we made an error on your tax return that results in you owing additional taxes, we will reimburse you up to $6K." So we decided to have HR Block file the claim. We don't have a copy of that claim. Several weeks later, we received a letter from the "Peace of Mind" insurance company stating, "Your return was prepared correctly.....the information was not correct or complete due to NO FAULT of H&R Block, and your claim is denied." We called the 800 number to ask questions and they said they would have someone call us back. No one ever did. We called H&R block Fernley to speak with the manager. We left a message and HE never called us back. They did offer to waive our next tax filing fee. Why would we go back to a company that admits mistakes and doesn't do what they say they will do with insurance reimbursement. We were not reimbursed! Does this seem unfair to anyone else? We only want to know what mistake was made, how it was made and no one reached out to help us find how the mistake happened. They did call to let us know the claim was denied. The proof is, we didn't have a refund last year. We never have a refund. We always pay at the end of the year, every year. Yet, they reported falsely to the IRS that we paid the IRS this amount. As a taxpayer, you are responsible for what they file- know that. If they make a mistake, it's your fault. You need to review everything before you sign it. The insurance seems fraudulent to me. You cannot re-submit the claim or contest the decision. We are very unhappy because we feel as if we were lied to. What is insurance for if they don't cover their mistakes as they said they would? Next step: The Better Business Bureau. After that, a report to the IRS who does fine tax preparers who make mistakes. People deserve to know so that they can be very careful. I paid $264.00 for tax prep plus $40 for their "Peace of Mind". According to their website if I receive a letter from the IRS, they will handle it. On May 24, 2021, I checked the IRS website that showed my IRS refund was reduced to $68.89. I called Dena's office and was advised she was out of the office with COVID and I was referred to Master Tax Advisor Florence Yager, Enrolled Agent, 175 Damonte Ranch Parkway Set C, Reno NV. After a few calls with Florence and providing all the information requested, she prepared a 1040X on June 7, 2021 with a refund amount of $2989. After waiting months for a refund, I again called H&R Block and wanted them to follow up with the IRS about my refund. They didn't. I called H&R Block to have them follow up with the IRS at their 800 number, they advised me the H&R Block where Florence worked was closed and they referred me yet to another office, Ashley Harris 390 Hwy 95 A South Suite 2, Fernely NV. After speaking with Ashley over the phone initially on December 8, 2021, I sent her everything she requested. I gave her additional information to log into the IRS site under my information twice. I also emailed her on December 16th and 20th. I have called her several times since to no avail. She was always "with a client and will call me back". On January 25, 2022, I emailed Ashley and Dena advising them of complaints to follow. Dena replied and asked for more tax information on the 25th and I sent it to her. I haven't heard from her since. Ashley called and left a message. Not one person at H&R Block has contacted the IRS on my behalf since filing my initial return. Three advisors and not one of them can get it right. Ashley at this location was the absolute worst of the bunch. She was the last of the three that has (1) contact the IRS on my behalf, (2) failed to return a phone call after I called her twice over a two week period and (3) confirmed that I was receiving a large refund yet did nothing to confirm ANYTHING! Sure, she was nice, but she didn't anything other than waste my time. This review is in my opinion.
