Worst tasting experience of the weekend. Came with industry people and a club member, which would lead one to believe that the servers would be especially attentive. However, after we came in, sat down, and told the bar tender that we'd like the tasting, we were completely ignored for twenty minutes. After our friend went up to the bar we finally got some service. Our first tasting was corked, but she didn't even smell the wine beforehand to tell. Hm. I'm not really that much of a wine snob, but I know enough to say: you've got to do better. read more

Fabulous wines and great staff. On a day of wine tasting on the north fork with some definite highs and lows, this was one of our favorites. A bit expensive, but staff was personable, friendly, and knowledgeable. Wines were outstanding, particularly Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Would definitely return. We came with a large group for a birthday party. Everyone in the group was from the age of 28-35. We where treated like some sort of animals. First impressions are key and we where told they couldn't be accommodated when the place was completely empty!!!! We where asked to move so that staff can move freely when there was more than enough room to get around us (as if they were carrying a tray filled with drinks for 5).. Then as we were leaving I got off the table with a glass a quarter empty which I planned of finishing to the walk to the door.. I was grabbed violently by a staff member to tell me I couldn't take the glass with me as if that was my intentions! Then when I asked for managements name it was refused to me. I am a business owner for an establishment in Manhattan and I would never dare treat customers the way I was treated today! ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE !!! read more

This is the worst winery I have ever been to. The service was absolutely terrible. We go to winery's all the time and were excited to try Bedell. We ordered the tasting and the gentleman at the bar completely ignored us, barely explained any of the wines, and continued to leave us waiting while he graciously served another group who he obviously thought were more deserving of his time than us. It was honestly insulting and upsetting to be there. We left after flagging down another woman at the bar and telling her we didn't want to even finish our tasting because the server was "obviously busy" and she said we should just leave and didn't have to pay. Recently stopped here as part of a self guided wine tasting excursion with my boyfriend. This seems to be one of the more popular destinations so it was a little crowded. The bar area inside was pretty nice and the 2 wine flights we had were decent; we didn't feel compelled to purchase a bottle though. The grounds were ok, but there are other less crowded vineyards you can stroll around in and have some quiet. Not a bad spot to check out, but definitely not a "must" in my opinion. read more

Bedell was one of the highlights of my recent wine tasting trip out to Long Island. We visited four wineries that day and this tops my list for a number of reasons. 1) I love the atmosphere. Live music playing Van Morrison. Great outdoor seating area with great views of the vineyard. It wasn't too crowded when we went, probably because it was after Labor Day, but it was a beautiful fall day nonetheless. There were several families there with picnic tables set up, playing football off to the side. 2) I would rate their wine 1st or 2nd of our trip. A particular standout to me was the 2007 Corey Creek Gewurztraminer - very floral, rose aroma. One of the best white wines I have had in a while. 3) The staff was very friendly and accomodating and went out of their way to help us. I would definitely return for a date or with a group of girlfriends. read more

Came here on Memorial Day weekend, Bedell did not have live music and was very strict about bringing in outside food. I had brought a small bag of pretzels and was told I had to put them back in the car because they did not accept "outside food". The wine was very expensive as they charge you extra if you are staying on premise. Beautiful views tho. read more

This had an impersonal, art-chic feel. We were greeted by a man outside who said we had to leave within 20 minutes because they had an event scheduled. When we got into the tasting room, picture a square room with a curved bar in one corner, and a mob of people trying to squeeze in around the bar. Frenetic. The people behind the counter - some were really nice, others were not so nice. They all seemed to be knowledgable. We came here because Bedell had good reputation for its wines. I am not in a position to judge. We tried three. I can see why it does win awards - the three we tried had a distinctive taste from other wineries we went to (4 others). The place was packed yesterday 9/5, and it appeared that the staff was not prepared to accommodate the mad rush, but since they had a band playing on the beautiful deck, it was worth the wait. I never do the tasting, I just go straight for the bottle sale, so it was difficult just to make a purchase. The manager may want to look into having a sales counter so that customers who know exactly what they want can move along, rather than do the tastings. The deck is the centerpiece of the winery. It really makes a difference to have a raised deck which overlooks the vineyard. Breathtaking view on a gorgeous sunny day. Band was great too. The Chardonnay was on sale, so that was a nice deal, since after looking at the prices of some of the other wines, seemed pricey. But enjoyed the day... read more

I am all about the product when it comes to wineries and breweries and this place has an excellent lineup. We did the 2 tastings and I can honestly say I loved every single wine I tried. The service was prompt, attentive and very personable. When we expressed interest in wines outside of the lineup he allowed us to taste them free of charge. The sustainable initiative is apparent in their farming and production process and results in a great tasting and healthy wine. I only wish I had the privilege to tour the place without all the bells and whistles of the $100 VIP tour. Subtracted 1 star because I found some of their wines at Costco for cheaper, and they were not able to do anything about it. I should be getting the best price available straight from the source, especially since they do not have to pay a distributor a percentage on my transactions. read more

Bedell Cellars would be an absolutely gorgeous wedding venue. Although we did not end up booking there for a variety of reasons unrelated to Bedell, it is quite the spot. Picturesque, quaint, warm, and intimate, but all the while feels modern and upscale. Bedell also holds ceremonies and receptions on site which is another benefit. Having an expansive vineyard as your backdrop -- it doesn't get much better than that. Bedell has a number of approved vendors that they work with and they're all fantastic. I specifically spoke with Brent Newsom Catering and Catering by a Small Affair and both were very knowledgeable and willing to work with me budget-wise. Kim Folks, the main events coordinator is also an absolute pleasure to work with. My fiance and I liked her from the moment we met her on a Saturday when we drove out to see the site. She is not pushy at all, listened to our questions and answered them honestly and carefully, and made us feel like part of the process rather than just like a client. We could tell that if we had booked Bedell, she would have been terrific to work with throughout the planning months and on the actual day. Again, although we didn't end up booking here, I would highly recommend it as a potential wedding venue for anyone looking to do something a little bit different. Bedell is about 2 hours from the City and the North Fork is full of vineyards, adorable B&Bs, antique stores, and is close to the beach as well. read more

Bedell Cellars was the best wine on my recent LI tasting trip. Of course the Musee was very good, but I enjoyed their Chardonnay more than any other we had. It was lightly oaked, adding just a little character without being overly strong. The guy pouring for us was also one of the most friendly and helpful. Very classy place! read more

My favorite vineyard in Northfork. The wines are consistently good, lots of open space for lounging with friends and the view of the vineyard is just amazing (they also do weddings!). They proudly advertise that they are featured on many wine lists at high end restaurants and even served at the inaugural dinner for President Barack Obama.The security is a bit snobby but the guys working behind the bars are courteous and know their stuff. It's a longer drive into the island but worth it. I find the cab and musee over priced, the best in LI but still just a little above average by California standards. The tastings are pricey @ $15/$20 for the 5 glass regular/premium tastings but it is a generous pour. The first crush white/red/rose is great for any outdoor weekend picnic at the vineyard @ $20/bottle. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative-- check out Pindar next door. read more

I went on east NY winery tours several years ago. Bedell wine stands out among others.

Nine or ten years ago I came out to the North Fork and stopped at a handful of wineries. I bought wine at a few places and found Bedell's to be the best back then. Fast forward a decade or so and the one winery I could remember was Bedell Cellars. They no longer carry their dessert wines but their Taste Red and Taste White are both as superb as any flavorful American east coast wine. They are pricy but if you have a usual shopping habit like I do, of staying within the $8-10 range all the time, it's OK TO SPLURGE. You won't be sorry. There are also fantastic and more affordable options for the reds/whites as well. The views are beautiful and the bar inside is a mixture of white and black formal to nautical chic; classy but not stuffy. This is an excellent location for a wedding, and many were planning away while we had our visit. We would have enjoyed a band but the landscaping, great cheeses & wines and stellar views made up for it. If you come to the NorthFork, make sure Bedell is on your short list of places to stop. read more

Nice-looking place with that rustic-modern look going on. It was the most crowded of the wineries we visited that day, but that didn't deter us from our tasting mission. As for the vino? We did both the regular and premium flights, and we liked some wines from each. Their 2008 First Crush White was nice, though very light. The parentals seemed to enjoy it, but I much preferred the 2007 Chardonnay. I haven't found too many enjoyable LI wines (they always seem to be a whole lot pricer than they are worth and that, admittedly, sours my impression), but Bedell had a couple of good Chardonnays and one or two reds that we found agreeable. read more

This winery was recommended by the manager at our Hotel in Greenport, so off we went for a wine testing. We arrived to find our guide surly and disinterested. No explanations of the wines, no recommendation re: their best wines. Offered a cheese board with sheeps cheese that was barely edible. I love love love Bedell cellars. The space is cozy and warm during the winter months and their outdoor space is lovely in the summer months. You can purchase bottles or just a tasting flight. The employees are all very knowledgeable in the wine they are pouring. I am a huge fan of the 2013 Merlot always, however I do love the sparkling rosé for summer afternoons. Last time we picked up a case and it was great. They also have a little snack box from love lane that gets delivered fresh everyday they said! Some cheese, crackers and nuts. There were plenty of people already there, but it wasn't too crazy just yet.
