This place is absolutely wonderful. We've been boarding our two large breed dogs here for years. Anywhere from 1 night, up to two+ weeks. They always come back healthy and happy (and tired!). When we first adopted our doggos we didn't know their temperaments with other dogs so we boarded them at a place 30 minutes from our house where they had a kennel just for the two of them. We had given instructions to the staff several times and they kept getting it wrong and one time they came home with fleas! So, I was on the hunt for a better kennel and this place is just a few minutes from our house. We did a lot of temperament testing with our dogs and I loved that Bed Bark and Beyond has an assessment visit. Our boys did great so we started taking them here and we've never looked back. I love that they can play with other dogs all day and aren't kept in a concrete kennel for 23 hours a day. And on a personal/customer service note they were so considerate when our travel plans were terribly disrupted one year. We took a train trip and we were stuck on the other side of the closed Pass for five days. They were so understanding with our travel plights and were kind when we tried to call every day (difficulty with reception on the other side of the Pass and a huge snowstorm) to check in. The staff here is excellent and our dogs are always so excited to stay here. 10/10 recommend. read more

We live about a mile away from this marvelous daycare, pass it every day heading home, the dogs are all so happy outside on their toys and perches and tables. It's adorable. We lost our giant dog Kaz in the middle of the night last night, and the fine folks at Bed Bark, and Beyond not only found him, but brought him to the local vet to check for his chip. I highly don't recommend this place to bring your furry friend. We brought our golden doodle there and he did not come back the happy go lucky dog he was. He was super timid to our dog trainer and very nervous of people. His paws were scuffed up with almost like road rash. He was liking his paws for the next 4-5 days. Few days after coming home we needed to drop him off at his normal dog care place which the workers there noticed a change in his demeanor. He was hiding under things and very timid and shy to people which isn't his character. After about two weeks he has come back to acting normal and not licking his paws or hiding from people. He has bounced back with the lovable playful self that he had before his visit to Bed Bark and Beyond. Please do your due diligence before considering this place. We have heard from others around Gig Harbor that this is happening at this location. It's a shame dogs can't talk because there is more to this than what we know.. I'm very wary and protective of who I leave my baby with and Mary, Justin, and crew are the best. My pup is in safe hands and has a blast. He has had one overnight and several day time visits. I love that someone sleeps with the dogs overnight like a slumber party for our babies. They also just recently added an amazing, experienced groomer. On 1/21 I dropped my pitull off at Bed Bark and Beyond, while he drove to California for my husband's grandmothers funeral. I had asked they give him lots of breaks from their concrete pad and to kennel him (he's kenneled at home) because last time I took him there he had sores on his feet upon us picking him up. He actually had to pick him up early due to this. No one ever called me and when we picked him up Monday the 24th the owners, Mary's nephew told me he had a small scrap on his nose and they wernt sure what happened and it was harder to get Trigger to eat. They had to mix his dry food with some wet food to get him to eat. (After Mary had called me she said thatbit was hard to get him to eat starting Sunday morning. And thats when he became lethargic. I didnt pick him up until Monday early evening) He (Justin)also said they never kenneled him and bis feet were fine. Upon him brining Trigger out (usually a very happy hyper dog full of life, he brought out a limping very sluggish, sad dog. When I asked he told me Trigger had been very lethargic and he thought he was just overwhelmed by being at their kennel for 5 days. I had thenfeeling that Justin wasnt goingnto.say anything about Trigger being like this and only did after i had asked. Again when I had told this to Mary she blamed it on Justin "being a boy" and her being out of town. Trigger was also COVERED in sand, mud and poop. I got him home bathed him and put him to bed. I got up at 2am to pump (I just had a baby 5 weeks ago) and he was acting VERY wrong. He was throwing up, bloody diarrhea, stumbling, couldn't hold his body weight, his eyes were moving everywhere . He was non responsive. At on Tuesday the 25th I called the kennel to tell them something was very wrong. Justin, the same guy I had checked in and out with, answered. I told him what was going on and he denied everything, even the sores on all 4 of his feet. He told me he wasn't injured there and he didn't get into anything and he "didn't know what to tell me". I got him into our vet where they hospitalized him on fluids. They checked for an obstruction and didn't see anything. They did blood work (he has blood work done the day before i dropped him off at Bed Bark and Beyond as a normal check up for a dental cleaning we were getting him scheduled for) and his red blood cells where low. She consulted with the center for disease to get some ideas. She also said he turned really bad about an hour after we dropped him off with his temp dropping and they thought they were going to loose him. She suggested taking him to another vet for a head CT because her and another vet thinks he could've had a head trauma there and could have a small brain bleed, which is causing his dizziness and him not knowing what's going on. She also said it could be meningitis or leptospirosis hes had all his vaccines for both and was tested to rule out a tick bite aand was also on flea and tick preventive, but without a ton of testing (we don't have the funds for) they can't really know. So i took him home to push fluids subucaniously (under the skin) we were also carrying him in and out of the house while holding him to pee. The vet was unsure he was going to make it. Mary didn't call to check on him until the day after I called to tell them he was very sick, even after that, it was after Mary had been told I had posted this review to a local Facebook site and she all the sudden wanted to help and apologize. She also offered to put my boarding costs towards my dogs vet bills that were quickly stacking up. She put $200 of my $241 bill. Then asked me to to "update" my post to say she had did that. She also contacted the gal who ran that site so she "could Give her side of the story" even though she repeatedly told me how she was out of town durning my dogs stay and tried to make me feel bad that she doesn't go out of town often. She is also telling people Trigger had "pre existing" conditions that caused him to deteriorate durning his stay. She doesnt know i had him at the vet the day before where he had blood work and was given a completely clean bill of health with ZERO concerns, so i can easily prove that. She also repeatedly told me how Justin was working double shifts to cover for her and hinted to that's why he missed the condition if Triggers feet. I've had 10 people come forward to tell me how their dog needed vet treatment immediately after being picked up. 1 person tell me how their dog was lost and never found while in Bed Bark and Beyonds care 1 neighbor tell me how she can hear them yelling at the dogs all day. 3 people who worked there tell me how they quit due to how the dogs in their care are treated. Please do your research and DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE. I 100% believe something happened to my dog while staying here that lead to his death. read more

Brittany, the dog groomer at BBB was so great with our elderly Beagle/heeler mix. She said she had a lot of experience with senior dogs, and it certainly showed in how she treated our old man. It also showed in how she assured us (also seniors!) before and after his bath; it's tough trusting your grumpy old man with a new groomer! He came from his bath and nail clipping cool, calm and collected, smelling great and looking good. The kennel assistant, James, also handled Spotty with kindness and confidence. Every employee I've had rude encounters with, they are on 40th and 80th now and it's at the corner of a bus stop for school, my 25 year old was waiting for his niece and was worried about the bus not showing up and called his dad, a employee poked her head over the fence and act5told him to keep it down it was making the dogs bark. He of course ignored her but we were going to use them for our 2 dogs when we go on vacation, not now. And they park all these cars right in front of the bus stop outside their gate so you can't drive down to pick up your child, we have been here 22 years and have never encountered such rude people on our street. To the people giving 5-star reviews, too bad your dog cannot chime in. PLEASE do not send your dog here. Read ALL reviews before going here. Tour the place first and ask a LOT of questions. I toured the Fox Island location. I was not comfortable seeing that the dogs were left alone in a shed. So, I chose to take my dog elsewhere where dogs are constantly supervised and webcams are available for owners to check on them. Additionally, I have taken walks by the location on 40th and 80th. IF someone is outside with the dogs, they are yelling at the dogs to be quiet. No barking allowed at Bed "Bark" and Beyond! Today, I witnessed a worker smacking the dog on the face as he said "no barking." Sorry, but there's no way I'm going to pay someone to yell at and smack my dog all day or leave them unattended with other dogs to get in scuffles, potentially causing injury (see other reviews). If you care about your dog, do your research. There are other more reputable places and people to care for them. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about Bed Bark & Beyond! My dog Flora LOVES being there, she cannot wait to get out of the car when we get there in the morning. When I pick her up she is exhausted from all of her playing :) It makes me sad to see these other reviews, dogs will be dogs, they are just like kids, they get cuts and bruises from who knows where and every once in a while they get in a tussel. My Siberian Husky was left there for 4 days due to a family emergency and a lack of options. I picked him up today and he was not himself!!! My overly hyper and energetic dog who is extremely loving and gentle was skittish and barley mustered enough energy today to jump and greet me upon pick-up. They gave me back the rest of the food we left for him (we were gone for 4 days and (2) 1 gallon bags were given to them with 2 days worth of food in each bag and the second bag was mostly full). He has sores on his pads and is limping after being there. He has never been scared of us and when I lift my hand to pet him he flinches and is scared. He has never once turned down a treat and when we gave him a nice big pork bone he took it and put it down and left it. He is also scared to jump onto the bed and lay with us and he has been sleeping with us since he was a 6 week old pup. I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone EVER for ANY REASON!!!!! read more

Doggie day care turned into Doggie Torture for our sweet Viszla! We told the owner that our pup preferred playing with humans over other dogs and would need to be acclimated. He said all the right things, leading us to believe our dog would be in a safe and caring environment. When we picked her up we noticed a mark on her side. The owner said she ran into a fence. When we got home we looked closer and saw teeth marks, We also found a bite on her check, a bite on her ear that punctured the ear, a bite under her ear and a bite under her leg. We were horrified! Did the owner not hear her crying? Did he not even watch to make sure she was with the right group of dogs? It saddens and angers us to think of what she must have gone through that day. read more

Very highly recommended! If your dogs need a place to run, play, socialize, and be with people who genuinely love and care for dogs, this is absolutely the place to go. We can't be happier with Bed, Bark, and Beyond. We have two young, very active Siberian Huskies, and have been coming for about a month. Justin and his staff are extremely hardworking, and care for our fur babies as if they're his own. Our puppies come home happy and tired and sleep so soundly for about a day and a half afterwards. It's also clear that they are loved on really well during the day. It took about two visits before they went in eagerly, but that's completely expected. It's like a kindergartener going to school for the first time, and wanting to stay with mommy. They get over it. And once they see what fun it is there, they want to go. Our pups did just that. Now, they sniff at the back of my car in the mornings anxious to go, but we only go twice a week. When they do go, Justin or Rebecca meets us at the door and takes them in. Valet service. :) Our puppies jump out happily and go with them, ready to play. Justin also seems to know exactly when I'm coming to pick them up, and has them leashed and ready to jump back in the car to go home when I drive up. But he's also incredibly flexible and tells me I don't have to call if I'm running late. That's very helpful. Our pups spent an overnight there recently and did really well with that, too. Justin and his staff are attentive to their needs, supervised their feeding, and watched them carefully for separation anxiety. The pups have been having so much fun the last month during their day visits, spending the night was no big deal. So happy they have a safe and happy place to board the night for when we have to be away. Justin and his staff have gotten to know our dogs really well in such a short time, and we so appreciate his attentiveness. One of our pups is quieter and doesn't like big, noisy dogs too close to her, but the other pup is a typical husky and extremely high energy. We were concerned they would jump over the fence or dig under and get out, but the pups seem so happily occupied it isn't a problem. He and his staff cares for them so well. We've also had one professional grooming done, and it was wonderful. They came back so clean, dry, and nails trimmed. Their prices are reasonable, and we recommend their services whole heartedly. read more

I wasn't going to write anything until I saw the photo and comments by Susan H. I now realize that my post may have been helpful. My dogs boarded for 2 weeks in 2014 and when I returned, one of my dogs had sores allover his muzzle from a rubber muzzle thay had placed on him for an unknown duration of that 2 week stay. The location is beautiful and the dogs have access to an open yard and indoors but were not well supervised. All sizes of dogs mingle together which can be nice but the supervision is not consisent enough for safety. The muzzle was placed on my dog for convenience and he got injured and infected from it. It took several weeks before he allowed me to put his collar on as he appeared to be traumatized. read more

I took my Newfie/St. Bernard mix there to have her groomed as we had tried to have her nails trimmed at a vet recently and it was, in a word, traumatic. They took excellent care of her and took the grooming slowly and easily. She looked amazing when I picker her up and was calm. We took our dog there because it had been recommended by others in the area. My dog is a very passive mini goldendoodle. About 4 days into our trip I got a call from BB&B saying that she wasn't her usual happy, loving self. The girl said she noticed a small wound on her neck but it didn't look too serious. Knowing that she gets skin irritation from getting into other dogs' food, I said I'd call back in a couple of hours to check on her. After worrying about it for a couple of minutes, I called right back and the girl said that she had been taken to the emergency vet but she didn't know which one. An emergency vet? Soon thereafter, I received a call from my vet clinic saying that she had bite wounds all over her body--18 around her neck alone. The vet thought she had been mauled by more than one dog. She has been back to the vet several times for wound care, dehydration, skin irritation where she had to be shaved due to fecal matter imbedded in her fur. She also did not eat or drink for a week after the attack. She (and we) were traumatized by the entire ordeal. BB&B does not supervise the dogs at night. They are free to roam, not separated from each other. There is no doggie-cam and the contract you sign to board there releases them of any and all liability. read more

We would agree with what Susan H. said. We had a similar situation with our dog. She stayed there for 6 hours on a Sunday. When we picked her up at 3:30 PM and were driving home she started to whimper and we did not know why until we got home and saw puncture wounds on both the interior and exterior surfaces of her left rear leg as well as bite wounds on her neck. After discovering that she was bleeding from the wounds on her leg, we called Bed, Bark and Beyond (BB&B) and was told by the owner to apply hydrogen peroxide to the wounds in order to minimize any infection. Finding that we could not stop the bleeding, we decided to take our dog to the emergency room (Blue Pearl) in Tacoma at 4:00 PM. We were not able to pick up our dog until after her surgery was completed at 12:30 AM on Monday. Once we got our dog home, she cried and whimpered for three days even though she was on pain medication and sedated. What disappoints us the most is that when we picked up our dog, we were not told (by the employee of BB&B) of any altercation between our dog and two other dogs during her brief stay. We were told in a subsequent conversation that our dog was (at times) "snippy" - even though we had taken our dog to BB&B for over the past 3 years (since she was 7 months old) with no mention of our dog's behavior towards other dogs. We did file a formal complaint with Pierce County Animal Control in order to document this occurrence and were thanked by the Animal Control Officer for filing a report and bringing this matter to their attention. As a follow-up, our dog has had her drainage tube removed from her leg and we anxiously await the removal of her stitches this coming week. read more
