I'm not really sure where to start. I wish it were possible to give this place 0 stars! As far as my actual alterations go, it was completely average, if not below average. But quality was not the issue in my situation. Timeliness and customer service are my complaint with Becky from Becky's alteration.
I took a bridesmaid's dress in to be altered over a month in advance of when I needed it to be complete. I assured her that I was in no hurry, but that I definitely needed it by a certain date. I called her about 2 weeks before I was leaving to go MS for the wedding. She said that she had put it behind several others since there was no rush. I was planning to leave on December 23rd for MS. I received NO phone calls or emails about my dress being finished. I tried to go pick it up on the 21st and her store was closed, during the week! Apparently she closed the store for over a week during Christmas, without letting her customers know. I went by the store, called and emailed her everyday before I had to leave. She NEVER responded!! My boyfriend stayed in town later so he could hopefully pick it up. I finally had to look her up in the phone book and call her at home. She finally came to open up her store so he could get the dress. She arrived 30 minutes later than she said she would have the store opened. There were other people there waiting as well, so I was not the only one she chose to neglect.
Thanks to my boyfriend, I got the dress on time. Unfortunately this was only the beginning of Becky's complete lack of customer service and downright idiocy!
When I was being fitted initially she asked if I wanted to have my dress steamed. I told her yes, but when I saw that she was going to charge $18 for it, I told her that I didn't want her to do it. I should have made her put that in writing, but I figured since we had a lengthy discussion about it, that I should not have to be her secretary and write it down for her. After the wedding I saw my invoice and it said that she had steamed the dress and charged me. If I had not had such a difficult dress getting the dress in the first place, I would not have even worried about it. But the last thing I wanted was to give her one extra penny for her terrible service.
Things actually get so much worse from here. I went to her store and demanded I get back my $18 (sad I know, but it was totally principle at this point.) She argued with me, asking me "why would I do the work if you didn't want me to," and "I don't do work and not get paid for it, honey!" I repeatedly told her that I had no clue why she did it, when I specifically asked her not to, but that was not the point, I want my money back!! After arguing for far too long she hesitantly gave me a check for $18.
When I went to cash the check, I found out that Becky, the lunatic, "accidentally" wrote it out to herself! Of course I went back, clearly I have no shame, but I also have NO tolerance for such unbelievably terrible customer service. When I went back, she refused to give me the correct check. She said that she should have never written me one in the first place. She kept saying that, "she doesn't do any work and not get paid for it!" I still can not understand what she was thinking as a business owner. I even explained to her that, imagine you have gone to an expensive restaurant. Since you want to save money, you order the cheapest thing on the menu, but accidentally they bring you something that cost much more. True, the chefs have worked hard preparing your expensive dish, but it doesn't matter, because you DIDN'T WANT IT! Her response was a blank, dumb stare. So, the story ends tragically. She never gives me a check and calls the police since I insisted that I would not leave until I got my money back. Sadly the police came and told me I had to leave. I pretty much knew I was not going to leave there with my check, but I wanted to stay there as long as possible, pleading with Becky in front of her customers. I couldn't go down without a fight.
I apologize for the novel I have written, but if just one person reads even half of this review and chooses not to go to see Becky, I will be content. read more
