I am so disgusted and disappointed. Beck's use to be our favorite in this area. We are not young, in our 70s, and we have traveled a great deal in this country and others. We have retired to this area so we have tried other places and none as bad as today at Beck's. You would do yourself a favor by going to McDonalds instead of here and we don't like McDonalds at all. Beck's gives Calabash a bad name. This review would be much to long if I named everything that they did wrong. So I will simply say, the food and service were horrible. It's bad when you can't even get a wedge of lemon for anything. Worst went you can't even finish your meal because it is that bad. They need to shut down and train their people, including their cook. read more

We (all but one in our group) got the stuffed flounder and were very disappointed . It wasn't even stuffed there was flounder, stuffing, and flounder on the plate side by side. The food here is worth the drive from Holden Beach. The seafood is fresh, the service is professional, friendly and fast. It stays very busy but they get you fed pretty quickly. Lots of options of seafood, entrees, vegetables & dessert. We always make a point to come here to eat and to hit the shops near by. The place is very clean and well decorated. read more

Incredible every time we've come. The lunch special is especially a good deal but either way the fried seafood is amazing. We tend to get the snow crab legs in addition and they are some of the best we've ever had. The staff is incredibly friendly and always attentive to our needs when we visit. We actually went twice this week and staff recognized us from several days before and asked how we were doing. We get our food quickly and it's always nice and hot. The restaurant has been much busier lately but even then our wait has been fairly quick especially if you're willing to sit at the bar. Overall a fantastic restaurant. read more

This is one of the three original Calabash restaurants on the border of North and South Carolina on the town of Calabash. Delicious seafood, and very fast service. The servers were friendly, and brought our food out quickly. Very family and group friendly!

If you like shrimp that has not been deveined and sitting in oil then this (and ANY other Calabash seafood restaurant is your spot). Broiled Scallops were brought out sitting in a pool of water. Shrimp and grits was swimming in grease. Hamburger Steak was what appeared to be a frozen burger patty unseasoned. Ribeye ordered medium was brought out well done. We got carry-out, 2 combination platters. Food tasted good, however neither had salt or pepper. The order of fried oysters and fried shrimp had no cocktail sauce or tartar sauce, no ketchup for oysters, no plastic tableware, no sweet tea which we ordered. The wife and I made the 35-minute drive from Oak Island to visit Becks. Had tried Ella's before and loved it, but Ella's was not open due to an unfortunate fire. The place was packed at 5:15pm. with an estimated wait time of 35 minutes. The wait time was probably 40 minutes in the end. The food was great. The food is reasonably priced as well. Robin waited on us at the bar during our wait, and Jenna was our server. Both were great and were working their butts off! It's nice to be able to find a place that isn't a tourist trap. We will be back again. Thanks to the locals who told me about Ellas and Becks three years ago, and thanks to the Becks staff. read more

Have been here multiple times for multiple years. I ordered the lunch special and told the waitress I wanted to share the plate with my daughter. The waitress must have misunderstood and brought out two orders. We were not sure if it was the lunch special plates for us on separate plates. When I got the check brought it to the waitress attention. She had to get approval from management to take it off. Management said no. She was going to have to pay out of her pocket to make this right. A restaurant making lots of money should not require waitresses to take the money from their own pockets. I will not be going back there. They have lost a customer. Food is good here but I can find a replacement at the many options around the area. read more

My family and I have been eating at Beck's for over 20 years. Tonight may have been the last time. We had a party of 6, all adults. We arrived at 5:00 and were seated within 15 minutes. The restaurant was not yet full with the usual dinner crowd. When the waitress returned with our drink order, she spilled the entire tray of drinks into my son's lap and onto the lady at the table beside our booth. At this point the waitress tells us she is sorry and sends the bus boys out with a mop. We had to ask the bus boys for some paper towels to clean us the liquid on the table and on my son and myself. The waitress returned and asked if my son would like a t shirt. He told them no because it was his shorts and wallet that were wet. At that point, apparently the incident was over in the eyes of Beck's management. No one mentioned it again and we never spoke to a supervisor or manager. The bus boys were the most compassionate personnel. Overall, it seems as though Beck's is much more interested in how fast they can move customers in and out than trying to create a good customer experience. As for the cashier, Mr. Compassionate, who saw the entire fiasco unfold, asked me if I had a good time when I paid the bill. I told him I did not enjoy the experience. He said OK. I paid the $208 bill, no discount and even tipped the waitress. Apparently, this type of thing is supposed to be expected or just part of the dining experience at Beck's in Calabash. read more

We'd been to Beck's a few years back for lunch and had no complaints. Since our go-to dinner spot in Calabash had permanently closed, we gave it a shot again for dinner. There was a bit of a wait, but they were able to seat our large party all together, and had a great variety of Calabash style seafood. And of course, the hushpuppies! (Which is one of the main things I go to Calabash for, if I'm being honest.) Seriously though, Beck's was as good, if not better than our usual go to spot, so I'm glad we gave it another chance. read more

Not awesome. Went here because we loved Ella's, but since it burned down we thought we would try Beck's, their sister restaurant. There were seven of us and nobody was really impressed. Food was just bland. Sauteed shrimp was lacking flavor. Steaks were not seasoned well. Fried seafood was typical Calabash style and was pretty good. The oyster cocktail on the menu indicates they are fresh shucked but they definitely were not. The shrimp were not fresh either. Both were fried and extremely greasy. Every time we come into town we eat here. Friday night must of been an off night. I usually eat at least 3 plates of crab legs and I was only able to try and finish one. The taste was off. Beck's has a long history in Calabash yet has transitioned nicely into the 21st Century. Their traditional "Calabash style" fried seafood is lightly fried and not greasy. Beck's has expanded their menu to include sautéed, broiled, steamed, and grilled. They start you off with a basket of hush puppies and honey butter to nosh on while looking over the menu. I ordered the Shrimp Trio with Calabash-style fried shrimp, steamed shrimp, and their Dynamite shrimp (aka Buffalo Shrimp). All three were great. My wife had the combination with fried flounder and fried shrimp. Also very good. Beck's is a great choice for Calabash-style seafood and more. Definitely a good choice. read more

Casual seafood restaurant... nothing fancy here. Wait staff was pleasant enough. Hush puppies were hot and good. Husband ordered a bowl of crab bisque and a crab cake sandwich and I ordered the small seafood platter (shrimp, oysters, flounder). The crab bisque was seriously lacking in flavor - and crab. Sorry, but in a town "famous" for seafood, would've expected more. It was edible after adding salt, pepper and saltines. The crab cake sandwich was just "okay". My seafood platter had a large portion of shrimp, about 6 oysters and a large piece of flounder. It was stacked on a small plate with cole slaw on one end and covered in French fries. The shrimp were good, flounder was also good - but a few oysters were overcooked and inedible (chewed and chewed - finally spit them out). All in all, it was just okay... but there are better seafood restaurants in the area. read more

Went here last night for dinner with my wife who isn't a seafood person. I got the fried scallops and they were a little greasier than I would like however they were cooked perfectly. The quantity was impressive though, and I did eat all of them and did regret it later. My wife had the prime rib and it was just ok. They did cook it right. The sides weren't that great - french fries on my plate weren't quite perfect and my wifes salad was boring. The place was very crowded. I think I would come back but only after trying some of the other neighboring seafood restaurants first. On a positive note they did give us some fried bread seconds after being seated. Excellent most of the way around. Service prompt and friendly. Food came out quickly, was hot and very large portions for the price. Very good value and excellent quality. Hush puppies come out first for all instead if bread with a honey butter. Very good. Our party had peel and eat and oysters as apps. (FYI for the oyster on the half shell lovers - the Oyster Cocktail app is not served on the shell but shucked and plated and bland.) Main meals were shrimp Calabash (large and brought home leftovers); Combo (2) of flounder and deviled crab; sautéed scallops; daily special of blackened Mahi mahi with large side of fresh green beans. While not fancy the service and food is very good. Our server was very attentive and friendly, got the order correct for our party of 7. We ordered salad and soup appetizers and then flounder plater soft crab platter and seafood and shrimp platters. All of the food came out piping hot.
