The trick of course is not to order the wine. At €22 per bottle of mediocre red house wine, that really pushes up the final bill. Last year the early bird menu included a free bottle of wine between two. Will know better next time but will definitely be back. Brought the missus here for anniversary dinner yet again and delighted to find it has lost none of its class or charm. The main event is the food. Beautifully cooked by the new head chef, it is so far beyond what I could cook at home, it shows the difference between a professional and an amateur. We started with the smoked haddock balls and a cajun chicken salad, absolutely scrummy and very filling. An important tip is not to eat the beautiful bread and butter they bring cos you won't have any tummy room left, so take care, you have been warned. We both had duck in plum sauce for mains and it was simply delicious. It was tough to eat the full sticky toffee pudding and the belgian chocolate mousse deserts but hey! we hung in there and managed it. Coffees were drunk slowly with the last of the wine. We had a lovely meal in super surroundings and would highly recommend it to everybody. Just be a little careful of the cost of the wine. Total cost of the meal for two including a pint of lager came to €71 ex. tip. Would give it full five stars but would caution against the unexpectedly high cost of the house wine. God knows what the more expensive wines cost!

Made the booking for the restaurant where they had an amazing deal....I think it was 2 courses for around €22 euro and 3 for around €25/26. Needless to say I had three courses ! NOM NOM Starter was a yummy chicken Caesar...it was huge and yum Main was a very tasty lamb dish whereby the lamb was off the bone but wrapped in some tasty pastry on bed of creamy mash and side of veg.....I've never had lamb like that before and it was soooo damn good. Desert was a calorific sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and ice cream. It was sooooooooooooooooooooooo yummy but might've tipped me over the edge. I was completely stuffed and very happy with life at this moment in time! The waitress who served us was really really nice. Always checking if we were ok with our meal but knew when to leave us alone at the same time. The restaurant was quiet so it was lovely atmosphere to catch up with family. I'll defo be back for a feed. Well played Leixlip house

The meals, it seemed, were all pre-prepared and had then been re-heated in a microwave which explained why my seafood chowder was lukewarm while hers was piping hot. But its only fair as my venison pie was hot while hers was just nicely warmed. Only three staff appeared to be working in the hotel that night. A barman, a waitress and a receptionist. We availed of the 'Ladies Night" deal and had our two courses for €20 each.

Wow. What a meal…read more Just two weeks old, and already a well-oiled (and extremely tasty) machine. Usually when you visit a restaurant that's so new, there are lots of chinks that need ironing out, processes that need tweaking, menus that aren't quuuite spot on yet. Not so in Canteen. You could be forgiven to assume it had been there for years. The staff and management have clearly taken the best bits from their old Blackrock haunt, and added to them for the new Celbridge abode. From beginning to end, everything about the meal was perfect. - The piping hot just out of the oven bread and soft butter landed on the table as soon as we came in - The exquisite amuse bouche that followed straight after - The menu which strikes the perfect balance between modern Irish & French cuisine - not too fussy and not too plain. In fact we had a few fussy eaters on our table, and everyone without exception demolished everything put in front of them. A testiment indeed to the fresh ingrediants and clever combinations. - The decadent truffles that completed the experience! Now, a special mention to the star of the show. The Crème brûlée. Mother. Of. Deserts. Hands down the best crème brûlée I've ever had. The richest, most dense & velvetty caramel. Wow. I'm still thinking about it. The interior is slick - painted in a grey and blue pallet, with massive floor to ceiling windows, minimalist lighting and contemporary art, it's got a serene feel, and manages to thread the line successfully between sophistication and quirkiness. The staff were on point - friendly, efficient and knowledgable. Then there's the price. If you count the bread, amuse bouche, three courses and the truffles at the end, you're essentially getting a five course meal for 38 euro. Incredible value. With wine, 55 euro. Worth every cent. This is the type of place that Celbridge has been crying out for. They're going to do exceptionally well. More power to them.
