Ok just about the only Bolivian Restaurant in southern California... Kantuta closed and La Rancherita is really just a bakery that serves saltenas too. Good food and Live music! Yes the Inka Kings play there often, I would call and check what nights. They are great Andean band, that plays a lot of the classics and will mix it up with new stuff. The food and music create a great atmosphere! Thumbs up to Beba's and staff! I hear they might be opening up a new location...hope it's in the Valley!! Definitely try the saltenas! The saltenas were good, not amazing but good. The silpancho was ok, the meat tasted a little funny to me, like old perhaps frozen meat? The service was really bad and slow, if i wouldn't had driven 45 min to get there i would have probably left (but i drove so long cuz i was craving south american food so i Kinda had no choice but to wait). The old torn plastic covers on the tables a total turn off, it cheapens the place and just looks bad. Excellent food, they ran out of sopa de mani (peanut soup) but the plato paceno was great. Fried cheese and large bolivian corn was interesting and new. It's difficult to locate salteñas, or Bolivian food in general, in L.A. So, I was thrilled when family sent us to Beba's for their specialty. We ordered a dozen of these Bolivian "empanadas" to-go and had to suffer the 20 minute wait, starving with the delicious smell of browning dough wafting through the restaurant. We were advised to call in the order ahead of time upon next visit. Well worth the wait. But, note to salteña-loving self: preorder and don't inhale too hastily-- I bit into one immediately, burning my mouth and spilling the otherwise heavenly contents all over my shirt. read more

First time for Bolivian! Thanks to our friend for introducing us to this jewel restaurant. It looks plain and simple from the outside but the food is what is important and it meets my stamp of approval. If you want to try something that tastes like an oozing-pie filled with soupy-meat goodness, go with the saltenas! Those things rock! Be warned, juice will ooze out so please eat with caution. I married into a Bolivian family and Beba's is our go-to for delicious, authentic Salteñas. The Salteñas are the perfect combination of savory and sweet. I believe they are $3.50 a piece (and we buy dozens, they're so good). They're great about take-out as well. Done in true Bolivian disaster style. They had a live band to attract more ppl, however they had 1lady taking orders. Patrons were clearing tables to make room for themselves. I had to go up 1x to ask to put in an order. She never came. I had to flag another lady down who happen to come by. To top it off I only had the option to order a combo which included the main dish, a drink and saltena for $25. So I dropped $50 for 2 ppl, and waited more than 1hr to begin eating. I am sooooo happy this place is close to me! I've always overlooked this place because of the gigantic "Gilmore's" sign in front of it that made me think it was a diner (many of which I find kind of boring). My dad recommended a Bolivian restaurant near me & it turned out to be this! This place is kind of run down and dark, and had an odd mix of remnants from the Gilmore's diner and Bolivian items/décor. Apparently, Beba's and Gilmore's merged... they still have menus from both. (NOTE: if you find your menu has pancakes and chicken fried steak on it, ask for the "other" menu---guess it's a judgment call when you walk in; I tried not to take it personally.) Service was nice enough, but we were hardly checked on and had to flag someone down every time we needed anything (including refills, and their glasses are small). The food, however, was great! The ingredients could have been fresher and of higher quality (hey, at this price range it's really too much to ask), but everything was seasoned perfectly. We had: -Sopa de mani ($5), 4 stars: a milky soup that has a pleasant taste of (boiled) peanuts with lots of pasta and a little (real little) piece of beef. Delicious and a definite comfort food. -Saltenas ($2.50 each), 4 stars: basically an empanada with a twist. They are huge, bigger than my fist (I'm 5'6"), with lots of stew-like stuffing, tons of juice (too much, I think), and a shell that's sweeter and a little chewier/denser than your regular empanada (probably to keep all that sauce in). We had the chicken and beef. I preferred the chicken; the beef flavors didn't work as well with the sweet shell for me. -Silpancho ($10?), 4.5 stars: Pounded, breaded beef (kind of like milanesa) topped with a fried egg and tomatoes/onions/jalapenos, with thinly sliced fried potatoes, fried plantain (YAY), and rice. The beef, although not the best quality, was seasoned incredibly well and the breading was perfectly thin, just enough to give a nice little crust. Even the rice was delicious (cooked in broth?). Went here for lunch. The place was a bit difficult to find since the actual restaurant had only half the name (something starting with G) on it, but the restaurant sign said both names on it. Decor is very old-fashioned, and tv's play authentic music videos. I was slightly worried since nobody was there except us and the employees, and it was lunch time. I got the dehydrated peach and cinnamon water, and shared 2 Saltenas, and a beef plate. By far the Saltenas were the best (esp. the beef one, although the spicy chicken was good too). The beef plate was large and was plenty of food to share. Beef was pounded thin and was delicious. The 2 eggs definitely added to the flavor. The dehydrated potatos were light but good. The peach/cinnamon water was good but sweet. Reminded me of a watered down spiced ice tea. Overall, I would go back if I want good Bolivian food! read more

Went in yesterday for lunch with the fam, the food was very good, seasoned perfectly and cooked to order, the venue was exceptional also, it looked like they remodeled the place since my last visit and they did a good job to modernize the place. The reason for 2 stars, service was SLOW, I had to get up myself and get my own beverage because the waitress only cruised by once every 15 minutes. Also, it was blistering hot in there, we had to ask them to turn the AC on, I specifically remember using a napkin to wipe sweat off my forehead, that's how hot it was! The place is ok. It has a good enviroment, but let's go to the important thing the food! I am Bolivian and I came with my friend that us Bolivian too. We ordered saltañas, salteñas were ok but they can be better. I ordered "lomo montado" and it was awful. The beef was hard and with a sausage flavor.Then the sopa de mani was like water. It needed more flavor. The falso conejo was very thin and the sauce wasn't the authentic. I don't recommend this restaurant because it is awful !!! I love Bolivian food, love Bolivian culture, and love my Bolivian girlfriend. Beba's is the only Bolivian food you are going to find in Orange County for the most part. Beba's is damn good, but there are some flaws. First the bad: They share a space with an American restaurant leading to an odd dichotomy. The service at times can be slow, and one time I found plastic in my saltena :(. NOW THE GOOD: I've had half the menu at this place and its all good stuff. The saltenas are good, but la rancherita's are far superior. The mocochinchi (a peach drink) is delicious. The bread is soft and warm as well. The sopa de mani (mani is peanut in Bolivia) is soothing and tasty. The plata pacena is a delicious combination of giant bolivian corn, fried cheese, lima beans, and potatoes. Silpancho: My favorite bolivian dish of all time. It starts with a bed of white rice, the rice is topped by a layer of boiled, sliced potatoes. On top of that is a breaded beef cutlet similar to a milanesa. Top that with a pico de gallo esque mixture of onions, tomato and parsley. Finally topped that already amazing dish with two fried eggs and you have heaven on a plate. This might be my favorite thing on the planet to eat. Pique a lo macho: A delicious blend of pieces of beef, hot dogs, and french fries! This is topped with a mix of onions, locoto (Bolivian chilies), hard boiled egg, mustard and ketchup. Sounds odd but is very tasty. Falso Conejo: This dish is a pounded out piece of beef that is breaded and then fried. Its smothered in a sauce of aji (a very popular bolivian spice), onions, and peas. Put all of this on top of rice and potatoes and you have an amazing meal. PIcante de Pollo: The chicken in this dish is slowly stewed in a mixture of aji, locoto, tomato, onion, peas, pepper, and I'm sure another spice or two I'm leaving out. The chicken is cooked until beautifully moist and tender. The chicken is then served with a boiled potato, some chuno (a staple purple Bolivian potato) and a giant ladle of the sauce the chicken cooked in. No matter what dish you eat, you'll most likely be served a Bolivian salsa called llajwa. Its a blend of tomato, salt, and locoto and is delicious and often can be very very spicy. It honestly goes well on anything. Bolivian culture and food is a little know gem in Orange County, so if you read this very long review I implore you to go outside the box and try some food at Beba's. You won't be dissapointed. read more

Although finding a Bolivian restaurant is beyond rare to find, this restaurant is just flat ridiculous and I sadly will not come here again. Their Saltenas are delicious, but the simple fact that they refuse to serve you water just blows my mind. I mean really?! Who does not serve water and makes you pay for bottled water?! Well this place does. I am 8 1/2 months pregnant and to be denied water and not allowed to bring in my own water bottle is ridiculous. Especially being that we were in a party of 4, so they are already making well over $80 just on our table. Customer service is crucial and although an extra $2 or so may not seem like a big deal, their plates are already over $12 and I shouldn't have to deal with drama over water that is free to everyone! When I rate a restaurant, one of the criteria I think of is "can I recommend this place to anybody?" The answer for Bebas is no. Let's put aside the food, which is very good and the reason why it gets a 3/5. What Bebas is unfortunately notorious for is poor service. The wait for any service often runs long. It's hard to get the waitress' attention. No one does any follow up to see how the food is or if anyone needs anything additional such as water or coffee. I am Bolivian and the food here is very good. I've eaten Bolivian cuisine before hand. This place has really good Bolivian food. I would definitely recommend trying their salteñas. They are very juicy and have a great balance of spices. Service is good, the hostess is always very nice and attentive. Having never traveled to Bolivia I thought I'd write a review for gringos about this place. The saltenas are basically little fried pot pies not to be missed. The bread around the pie is mysteriously sweet and they are served piping hot. I had the chicharron. If you have had them in other Spanish speaking countries then you are in for a great surprise. The ones served here are basically pork short ribs falling off the bone tender then flash fried! Heavenly! The hot sauce or Salsa on the table is awesome which means it is very hot. I grew up in southern Louisiana and we like it hot. Only negative thing is the drinks are tiny and if you load your chicharron with hot sauce you will be looking at any empty glass a lot! read more

Although its really hard to find a Bolivian restaurant or Bol food in general in OC, I gotta hand it to Bebas. Best Saltenas hands-down of the two other places in OC that carry Bolivian food. They are so good and juicy you can put em in the fridge and they'll be good to reheat and taste just as good. The picante mixto is "mom's cookin'-good" (if your mom is Bolivian, mine is.) Everything else is friggin amazing. I've even called ahead to just pick up the order and theyre really quick with it. One more thing, the empanada de queso will give you delicious memories for days. For the lil ones, they'll make something special for them that wont spice them out. Very nice.i think Bebas is the only dine-in Bol restaurant in OC, so for having a monopoly on that, they're really delivering. read more

the food is alright I'm more upset about the service. the cashier told me i would have to wait 20 minutes I said fine after 30 min i was like hey I'm on my lunch here how much more time will it take, she said 5 well after 40-50 min i was beyond upset that my lunch was wasted sitting on a dirty bench outside. I have to preface this with the fact that there are very few Bolivian restaurants in Southern California. So an extra star was added off the top for that reason. Now when it comes to the food, I would say it was just ok. It was tasty and flavorful, but not very authentic. I've been to Bolivia many times and I also have made it a point to try any Bolivian restaurant I can find, so I have a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about when it comes to the food. I've been here many times as well and the quality of the food varies. Today the silpancho and the falso conejo were good, but not great. The rice was not the typical Bolivian rice I'm use to, instead it was regular white rice. The saltena was good but small, easily the best part of my meal though. The service was fairly prompt and the restaurant has a nice Bolivian decor and ambiance. The restroom could use a little more attention...but that's not something to skip this place over. Overall, I would recommend this place if you want Bolivian food (mostly due to the lack of other options). The one server was nice and the restaurant is pretty clean. read more

Very disappointed, especially because I was looking forward to trying the saltenas after reading all the great reviews. Went to Beba's on a friday evening after work. We were the only customers there! Felt a bit awkward for sure. We ordered saltenas, which only two were ready and if we wanted more we'd have to wait 25 minutes. Obviously the two that were ready were made way earlier because they were soggy and not very tasty. She hands us a menu and informs us we can only order numbers 17-25, probably since the place was so dead. I wasn't happy being limited on what I can order as there were other items that looked mighty tasty. I ordered the milanesa chicken with rice and a salad that had no dressing :/ I definitely will not be returning to this place and do not recommend it based on my experience. read more
