I have to preface this with the fact that there are very few Bolivian restaurants in Southern California. So an extra star was added off the top for that reason. Now when it comes to the food, I would say it was just ok. It was tasty and flavorful, but not very authentic. I've been to Bolivia many times and I also have made it a point to try any Bolivian restaurant I can find, so I have a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about when it comes to the food. I've been here many times as well and the quality of the food varies. Today the silpancho and the falso conejo were good, but not great. The rice was not the typical Bolivian rice I'm use to, instead it was regular white rice. The saltena was good but small, easily the best part of my meal though. The service was fairly prompt and the restaurant has a nice Bolivian decor and ambiance. The restroom could use a little more attention...but that's not something to skip this place over. Overall, I would recommend this place if you want Bolivian food (mostly due to the lack of other options). The one server was nice and the restaurant is pretty clean. read more

Yay: I'm a fan. If you like empenada..definitely check out the Bolivian version. Soup...check, eggs..check....chicken...check...beef check...all in one yummie saltena. The saltenas here are baked to perfection. As an entree I ordered 'lomito a la paila' which is beef marinated in bell pepper and onions served over a poached egg and rice. Delicious meal, although a tad salty. Took over twenty minutes to serve. I'd come just for the saltenas! read more

I'm so sad. I don't think I'll ever return again. After being told we can only order from menu numbers 17-25, we ordered the Chairo and Fricase and found them to be watery and had no flavor. Then, we were told we had to wait 25 minutes for Saltenas, which is the reason we travel so far to eat there. The service was not welcoming, the atmosphere was dead. This was my go to spot for salteñas especially since they make vegetarian ones. I was trying to buy some for my wife's birthday as a surprise and called them first thing in the morning to order some. I placed an order for 14 and because I was picking them up later I was told that I would have to pay now over the phone to reserve them. This seemed like a no brainer and I was glad to do it so I could ensure I got my salteñas. Literally an hour before I'm supposed to be picking them up I get a phone call to say that she sold out of them and she was sorry. My account was refunded the money but it seemed to me like a rude and unprofessional manner to do business. I paid for a service and was unable to receive the goods I wanted. I won't be visiting again. This was a horrible experience and it did not seem like it was a big deal to them. read more

First and foremost, it is very hard to find Bolivian food in southern California. With that being said, the food here is very close, if not as close as you can get to Bolivia without actually going there. That right there should be deserving of a 5-star rating, however, I would like to point out to anyone interested in trying out their food to come in and see for yourself what Beba's is all about. Everything I tried was very good and reminded me of when I lived in Bolivia! What you as an American may dislike is their service. The service reminded me of the first time I ate at a restaurant in Bolivia. Being from the U.S., the idea of customer service is worlds apart from what customer service is like in Bolivia, and in Bolivia there is no such thing as customer service. That is my opinion. Generally when you come in you won't be greeted with a smile or a hello. It's a very weird layout at the restaurant. You aren't sure if you are walking in to another restaurant or in to Beba's because there is some sign outside that seems to have never been taken down. You are almost unsure if you are supposed to seat yourself or if the female who works up front is supposed to seat you. She generally has more to handle than she is capable of doing and zero personality throughout the process. Don't expect to have someone come up and educate you on the menu or explain any of the dishes or walk you through a typical Bolivian meal. Expect someone to just walk up to the table and ask you if you are ready to order. Getting your bill is also a little complicated as well and may take forever. I really enjoy their food and hope they are successful as Beba's because they might have a hard time attracting newer customers due to their style - or lack thereof - of customer service. 2 stars for service, 5 stars for food. read more

The food is great and tasty for the most part. What disappoints me about this restaurant is that they are definitely not consistent with their service or their foods. It depends what day you go to know if you will have good food and who the employees are to know if there will be good service. It's always a hit and miss with this place. My wife and kids used to eat at Beba's when it was in Santa Ana and we loved their food. Today(10.5.2008) we could not wait any longer and made a commitment to eat in the new location. Boy, was I disappointed!!! There were only two waitress/cleaning crew/cashiers taking care of the diner where I counted 50 + hungry customers. Yes it is true only two people doing three different jobs. The Saltenas did not have the same taste as they used to. We won't eat at this place anymore, and I would not recommend it to anyone. My family is from Bolivia, and like most, prob. any Bolivian has a particular taste for our food, so it's not easy to please everyone. With that said, I think they have good food, but there is a lot of issues concerning this place. The prices are just too expensive, if you lived in Bolivia. Saltenas for almost 3$ !!! I think it would be good to find more competition, its like going to the only gas station in the middle of nowhere, there is no choice but to adapt to Bebas. I have decided not to go back to this restaurant for many customer service issues I've had there. I had to learn to call and ask for specific dishes or saltenas for availability bec many times when we already ordered, the waitress comes out saying they don't have this or that. One time I wanted to order a soup Togo & I asked if they would please split it in two bowls, they refused and acted confused by my request. Another time I tried to call in Saltenas and they told me they don't do that anymore bec. people don't show up. Last but not least I called to check what time they were gonna close on a Friday, it was 6:30pm and they told me they close at 9 pm. I drove for 35 minutes to get there to find the restaurant closed, their excuse was that they had no customers, well they just lost another regular. It seems like they don't care and that they don't need to have good customer service and satisfaction due to the fact that we have no choice. I hope there are more Bolivian people out there who would make the leap to serve Bolivian food in the Orange County area, Bebas simply can't be the best place for Saltenas or Bolivian food if there is no competition to compare it too. For a newbie or a "Jaila boliviano" this might just be good enough. Bot not for someone who knows that $3 buy about a dozen better Saltenas where we come from. read more

Initially I did not want to write a negative review but after several visits receiving the same horrible service, I feel people who read this should think twice before visiting this restaurant. Ok we are from Utah and have been to this restaurant plenty of times but this will be our last stop here. We asked for pique a lo macho and requested no vegetables and no mustard..... Guess what. it had both,the waitress returned it to the kitchen only to come back with the same plate and the mustard wiped off WTF...wiped off. I give them one star because I had to give them something but they didn't deserved it not even that !! Way Overpriced ... The service SUCKS!! They sales rotted products and tried to charge it anyway.
