    Snow shoeing

8 miles of trails, and in the winter - snow shoes to rent for only $5...staff that is wonderful and free maps for the taking, the Beaver Meadow Nature Center is an incredible hidden gem in Java, NY. I highly recommend taking a little trip out here in the winter, after we get a fair amount of snow and taking to the trails. They are open until 5pm on the weekends, so if you get in by 1-2pm you should have plenty of time to enjoy the wonders of nature. There's also a gift shop and they do a lot of educational activities with nearby schools and programs. On the way back after you've done enough hiking, you can make a pit stop in East Aurora for some tasty eats!

Beaver Meadow Nature Center, ~45 minutes from Buffalo proper, is the one of the sites of the 2021 WNY Winter Hiking Challenge. My co workers and I had a great time this weekend snow shoeing along the pond side and associated trails for a couple of hours. The employees were very friendly and helpful. They are easily able to accommodate large groups especially when you call ahead of time to reserve. The website has a map that is a bit difficult to visualize/zoom in but they have plenty of maps there. You may bring your own snow shoes, rent one for $5, or hike without any. Would love to return in the summer to check out the greenery!

This is a lovely nature preserve. I found it because I'm doing the western New York outside like a challenge, and this is one of the hikes. It's well marked it's got great easy parking, their maps posted all over the place, the pads are fairly well groomed, there's a lot of information about the local birds and animals you're fine here.

What a great place to discover! Lots of trails well marked , we also spotted some birds and butterflies. Also the welcome center is open, friendly staff was on hand to answer any questions you may have. Lots of photo opportunities whether if you are an avid nature enthusiast or like the opportunity for a good selfie (me!) I'll be back come fall time to do another hike and explore!

I love this place and it's many numerous trails! There's a lot to see and experience at Beaver Meadows any time of year and the trees, animals, and the sound of the wind is always a wonderful experience here. I haven't had the opportunity to see the nature center yet but I can't wait for the world to reopen so I can experience that and many of the other events happening here. The trails are all fairly easy to navigate with some nice hills and numerous different landscapes to see. There is even a handicapped accessible trail off of the main road the preserve runs off of. The trails are very well marked and the property is larger than it looks. Bring your hiking boots and bug spray and don't forget some water!

Had so much fun on a snowshoeing trip with a group of people at Beaver Meadow nature Center. The staff was very helpful and assisted us in anyway that they could. The nature center itself had multiple bird viewing areas with multiple other spaces that were very clean. Clean bathrooms. A day of tons of fun!

Overall I had a really good experience here. Hiking and exploring new parks is one of my favorite things to do in the summer. So I decided to embark on a journey to a new park. Beaver meadow is quite the place. There is such a variety of things to do here. From having lodging for small retreats for Girl Scouts, scouts or field trips, to playgrounds to hiking trails there really is so much to do. There is no doubt that it is catered toward young children, but there is definitely something for everyone to do. The park itself is the outside of a giant pond, from the namesake you can probably guess that the park had some beaver damns which was pretty cool to see. There are also about 15 hiking trails that are intertwined. The long trail, the longest trail is about 1.5 miles one way so you certainly can get your steps in here. There are also areas for picnicking if you're looking to spend some more time there! I would absolutely come back, my friend and I had a great time walking, building a fairy garden and spending time with unique animals. They also have plans to create tree houses and lots of other cool things.

This place is fantastic. Winter. Spring, summer, fall. There's always something going on. Today I went to the Maple harvest! Pancake breakfast, all you can eat for a small fee and demonstrations of how to tap the trees for the saps ,how to make Maple syrup snowshoe rental (I finally got to snowshoe today) That was the outside, inside the center had tons of kids activities- besides the pancakes there was face painting, a reptile room where you can hold a snake (I did!) face painting and crafts. Lots of little ones with happy faces today! They also have programs for adults. Like the dragonfly photography session coming in May, bring your camera! Owl prowls and more! Check out the website and make a day of it. Not into organized programs? Well there's a ton of trails, a pond and the cool nature center too. Did I mention the observatory? Oh well yeah, that....the Buffalo Astronomy Association runs it and they are usually set up during events, like this weekend's Maple Harvest weekend. Awesome experience to look up and see the sun through the very professional scopes. The observatory itself has a gigantic scope inside for viewing. The roof retracts and everything! The members of the BAA host public night the 1st Saturday of every month. Come at dusk and prepared to be amazed. It's very kid friendly so don't worry about that. If you have a old scope that you got for Christmas and don't know how to use they will be happy to help you set it up and get it going. All in all this in a nature lovers dream. It feels great to unplug and unwind.

I started going to Beaver Meadow in early 2015, and it remains one of my favorite places in WNY. I hadn't been there during the day until last year, and I didn't realize what I was missing. I mainly used the property to take photos of the Milky Way galactic center at night. The Buffalo Astronomical Association has a small observatory there, and the skies are insanely dark. I've been all over the country taking night photos, and aside from some parts of the Utah and California deserts, this spot still remains one of the darkest spots I've been to. The trails for day hiking are absolutely incredible. Trails cross the main roads and head into the deep forests and bogs. Multiple kettle bogs and ponds are on the property as well. Lots of rare trees, bushes, and flowers also make up the beauty of Beaver Meadow.

    Dirt...the best thing around here.

We came in promptly at 5 o'clock to find a very busy parking lot, an indication that the restaurant was already becoming crowded. Snowmobilers were parking their sleds along the trail-side and filling the open tables in the dining rooms. Our waiter was spot on, extremely attentive, pleasant, professional and knowledgeable. He kept our beverages full, brought our onion ring appetizer quickly, and followed up with our dinners soon after. I had been craving a beer-battered fish fry for the longest time. It really is a regional favorite at this time of year in the weeks preceding Easter. Byrncliff is one of the few restaurants in my vicinity that serve up a traditional beer-battered cod fish fry. I was amazed at the huge portion of fish on my large dinner plate, which included a nice serving of braised zucchini slices and red bell pepper chunks. I upgraded my French fries to garlic Parmesan fries for $3.00. They were very delicious and well worth the extra money. Additionally this meal included a scoop of macaroni salad, sweet coleslaw, and a slice of rustic bread and butter. My Special Valentine ordered the broiled fish with Italian seasoning. He always goes for the healthier option! He had a perfectly baked potato with sour cream, Mac salad and coleslaw. We indulged our grandsons and let them order a large cheese and pepperoni pizza from the wood-fired oven. The pizza sauce was rustic and savory. The pepperoni was cup and char, a true Buffalo favorite! Our littlest grandson ordered bbq chicken fingers with hand-crafted potato chips. He said these fingers are his favorite!! They are thick and juicy "tenders". We will definitely include Byrncliff golf resort and restaurant in our dining rotation. I walk through the doors to an attitude from Tanya saying I was the last person to check in. And apparently she had to stay until I got there. On top of that, the out front unloading zone and parking lot had not even been plowed or treated with salt. Therefore, what a hassle trying to get your luggage in the middle of the night. As everyone knows the brand Wyndham is typically on target however this location is not. For the price of the rooms and the brand was very disappointed, not only with the service but the condition of the room. I will say my bed was very comfortable however, the pillows needed thrown away as there was really nothing left to them as you picked them up they folded into and were all floppy. Zero support! My duvet cover showed a huge rip that had been sewn back together, Underneath the heating unit, there were all kinds of wires that had been spliced sticking out, grabbing your feet when you went by, cloth chair, a huge stain on it, mini fridge was frozen up, coffee pot was dirty, dirt around bathroom vanity faucet, bathroom exhaust fan didn't work at all, peeling paint from the bathroom mirror frame, grout in the bathroom with two different colors, tub drained very slow, towel had someone else's hair on it, bathroom door frame all scratched up, remote control was dirty, and some features not even work on it, wasn't able to connect to Wi-Fi the entire time there. As I missed my dog on the trip, I stopped at the front desk to ask if there were breed restrictions and the cost.... Quickly, the lady rolled her eyes ( same lady that checked me in with the attitude ) and ask what I had, followed by an attitude as to why it cost a extra$ 75 per night for a dog ( keep in mind I didn't ask why ) but she definitely lead on that. She didn't appreciate dogs being there and she said it would be cheaper to leave them at home. She stated that everything has to be taken out of the room and cleaned afterwards. Yes I expected that but the level of attitude I received was very unwelcoming. Perhaps it's time for a career change for this individual as she is leaving a negative impact on this hotel. Can we say " bad apple "? Everyone else here was very friendly. Noticed same bags of trash, set out by the residence for pick up for days. Elevators were a slushy mess in the lobby coming in pretty much the same. Wasn't able to enjoy the heated pool or hot tub due to unruly children running, screaming out of control as they were doing cannonballs....and of course, the parents were doing nothing. Parking was a train wreck as they didn't plow any of the parking lot or parking spaces, therefore it took up a lot more space because people couldn't see the lines and a lot of people had to park at the bank next-door and lug all their stuff across the snowy parking lot. OK now for what I did enjoy. Bed was comfortable and clean, rosemary, scented toiletries, hot complementary breakfast with delicious coffee. Friendly and helpful staff ( except for gray hair lady at the front desk ). Great location for walking to and from on a ski trip.

While the breakfast was just so-so, the coffee was actually pretty good. However, a front desk agent named Tanya completely ruined what could have been a great experience. As a handler of two service animals, I was shocked by her lack of knowledge regarding the ADA. Upon check-in, she asked questions about my specific disability, forced me to sign a "pet form" (service animals are not pets), and aggressively threatened to evict me if the dogs barked--despite them being silent and well-behaved. It created a hostile environment immediately. To make matters worse, my room keys were deactivated four times in two days, and when I tried to book a second night directly through Wyndham instead of Expedia to fix a rewards issue (as Tanya suggested), she was rude, dismissive, and refused a simple upgrade or late checkout even though the hotel was visibly empty. The physical hotel is nice, but until they train their staff on federal law and basic hospitality, I can't recommend staying here if you want to feel welcome.

The good stuff: the parking lot was spacious, they offer a free breakfast and wifi and they have a decent gym and pool for those looking for those amenities. Now for the issues. The Elevator was out of order. The gentleman in line ahead of us asked about the location of the gym. He then was asked if he wanted a first floor room due to the inoperable elevator and he said yes. Hmmm. Then when my husband and I (in our 60s and me with an injured right knee) were being checked in, she told us we were on the 3rd floor and that she hoped we did not have alot of luggage. Not good. We inquired about the availability of a first floor room and were told that they were sold out. Serious demerit for giving the first floor room to the workout oriented buck ahead of us in line. The hotel is well appointed and the room was seemingly clean but smelled like cigarette smoke. The temperature was difficult to control. My oura ring said my overnight body temp was +.08 which is very unusual for me. The bed was hard. It was quiet overnight and that was a plus. The bathroom was clean and well stocked with lots of towels. However when the fan was turned on in the bathroom, it sounded like a jet engine was in there with you. A helpful feature for them is a text in the morning asking what your intended check out time was so they could plan. That is efficient.
