Lovely facility for conferences. I'd love to see "The Biggest Loser" menu cause we were served some serious food options. It was all well done, fresh and attended to consistently by staff. The options for activities keeps up with the various foods: boating, walking, basketball, volleyball, shuffle board, tennis, swimming etc. The room accommodations vary from rustic campish to a well appointed hotel. All options were clean and well maintained.

I was afforded the opportunity to spend not one, not two, but three nights at the Beaver Hollow Conference Center back in August. (I'm a mom with two active kids under 4. Reviews take a while for me to write now, lol.) My Open Buffalo Emerging Leaders conference was there, and boy did this place give me allll of "The Great Outdoors" feels! You are literally surrounded by beautiful nature that inspires you to put down your phone and soak everything in ... after you take a few photos, of course (lol). All of the meals were prepared to perfection -- and we had buffet style the entire time. The food was fresh, plentiful, and made me hate the thought of returning home as I would not be blessed with such a delectable breakfast, lunch, or dinner after the retreat. The rooms were also nice: cabin-esque on the outside for those who love all things rustic, and hotel-esque for the bougies of the world who refuse to "rough it." The only hang-up was the reception (both WiFi and phone connection), but that was expected. Given this place is a part of the Biggest Loser training area, there was so much to do and soak in. If you wanted to gym, you could gym. If you wanted to play basketball or tennis, there were areas for that. I also enjoyed the many outdoor pavilions that were often the backdrop to our discussions and training. There's nothing that will instill calmness quite like reflecting along the lake. All in all, the Beaver Hollow Conference Center was a wonderful experience I truly will not forget. ... Did I also mention you can take canoes out on the lake at will?

Our table of 12 was accommodated with advance notice of arrival. Most tables are 2 or 4 tops. We went for the fish fry...I had broiled with crab topping. It came with fries, potato salad, and Cole slaw. The 5 kids split a cheese pizza which was very fresh. There was live atmosphere music with an older gentleman playing a keyboard. Owner was very friendly and you can tell many of the customers are regulars. Summer time has a lot of outdoor seating.

The same is true of the erroneous reports of this fine establishment being closed. As for the food, I had the "Fatboy". A pork belly sandwich slathered with a mango-habenero sauce and slaw. Saying that this sandwich was tasty would be an understatement. The hand cut fries complimented the Fatboy perfectly. If you're passing through the hamlet of Varysburg you should do yourself a favor and stop by the Varysburg Hotel, not merely for a treat to your taste buds, but for the atmosphere as well. The staff at the Varysburg Hotel make you feel welcome and remain attentive. Parking is limited, you'll most likely need to park on the street. A pro-tip for all, mind your speed as you come down 20a into Varysburg, unless you like contributing to the states general fund of course.

I walk through the doors to an attitude from Tanya saying I was the last person to check in. And apparently she had to stay until I got there. On top of that, the out front unloading zone and parking lot had not even been plowed or treated with salt. Therefore, what a hassle trying to get your luggage in the middle of the night. As everyone knows the brand Wyndham is typically on target however this location is not. For the price of the rooms and the brand was very disappointed, not only with the service but the condition of the room. I will say my bed was very comfortable however, the pillows needed thrown away as there was really nothing left to them as you picked them up they folded into and were all floppy. Zero support! My duvet cover showed a huge rip that had been sewn back together, Underneath the heating unit, there were all kinds of wires that had been spliced sticking out, grabbing your feet when you went by, cloth chair, a huge stain on it, mini fridge was frozen up, coffee pot was dirty, dirt around bathroom vanity faucet, bathroom exhaust fan didn't work at all, peeling paint from the bathroom mirror frame, grout in the bathroom with two different colors, tub drained very slow, towel had someone else's hair on it, bathroom door frame all scratched up, remote control was dirty, and some features not even work on it, wasn't able to connect to Wi-Fi the entire time there. As I missed my dog on the trip, I stopped at the front desk to ask if there were breed restrictions and the cost.... Quickly, the lady rolled her eyes ( same lady that checked me in with the attitude ) and ask what I had, followed by an attitude as to why it cost a extra$ 75 per night for a dog ( keep in mind I didn't ask why ) but she definitely lead on that. She didn't appreciate dogs being there and she said it would be cheaper to leave them at home. She stated that everything has to be taken out of the room and cleaned afterwards. Yes I expected that but the level of attitude I received was very unwelcoming. Perhaps it's time for a career change for this individual as she is leaving a negative impact on this hotel. Can we say " bad apple "? Everyone else here was very friendly. Noticed same bags of trash, set out by the residence for pick up for days. Elevators were a slushy mess in the lobby coming in pretty much the same. Wasn't able to enjoy the heated pool or hot tub due to unruly children running, screaming out of control as they were doing cannonballs....and of course, the parents were doing nothing. Parking was a train wreck as they didn't plow any of the parking lot or parking spaces, therefore it took up a lot more space because people couldn't see the lines and a lot of people had to park at the bank next-door and lug all their stuff across the snowy parking lot. OK now for what I did enjoy. Bed was comfortable and clean, rosemary, scented toiletries, hot complementary breakfast with delicious coffee. Friendly and helpful staff ( except for gray hair lady at the front desk ). Great location for walking to and from on a ski trip.

While the breakfast was just so-so, the coffee was actually pretty good. However, a front desk agent named Tanya completely ruined what could have been a great experience. As a handler of two service animals, I was shocked by her lack of knowledge regarding the ADA. Upon check-in, she asked questions about my specific disability, forced me to sign a "pet form" (service animals are not pets), and aggressively threatened to evict me if the dogs barked--despite them being silent and well-behaved. It created a hostile environment immediately. To make matters worse, my room keys were deactivated four times in two days, and when I tried to book a second night directly through Wyndham instead of Expedia to fix a rewards issue (as Tanya suggested), she was rude, dismissive, and refused a simple upgrade or late checkout even though the hotel was visibly empty. The physical hotel is nice, but until they train their staff on federal law and basic hospitality, I can't recommend staying here if you want to feel welcome.

Our usual lunch group was pleased overall with the food. I was tempted by one of the day's specials: roasted red pepper mac & cheese. This consisted of a heaping portion of well-cooked pasta, dotted with bits of the red pepper, and coated in a tasty cheese sauce. One friend couldn't resist the meatloaf sandwich, and what a construction that was! A thick slab of meatloaf between slices of fresh white bread, coated in brown gravy, with a side of mashed potatoes. Good old-fashioned comfort food. Another friend ordered the Speedway Burger, obviously named for the nearby racing venue, Holland's main claim to fame. Quite an edifice, this burger. Char-broiled patty topped with onion rings, melted provolone, lettuce, tomato and BBQ sauce. We're generally not beer drinkers, but it looks like they have a pretty extensive selection on tap. Wines are the usual limited selection for a place like this, but we're fine with those. Service was good. Surroundings are as far from modern as you can get, but comfortable enough, and with plenty of character.
