This is a pretty basic corner store - what we call a party store back in Detroit. Booze, beer, cigarettes, snacks, lottery, some grocery basics. They had a nice selection of hats with local pride and ghetto fabulous designs on them, too. I got a fleur de lis ball cap for less than ten bucks. Not some licensed Saints stuff, but that just makes it cooler in my book. I stayed right around the corner from here for 3 days and must have run in at least 4 times, and always got quickly back out. They usually had two registers open, which was really helpful, since like in Detroit people had to be wasting their money on their stupid lottery numbers. You can't lose if you don't play. Reasonable selection, all things considered. It earns that bonus star by having several choices of regional beers sold by the can and chilled for $2.50. Even if you couldn't pour it into a cup and walk around the quarter with your beer, that's still a pretty good deal. Also, I was delighted they sold Herbsaint in small 200ml bottles. I'll confess to bringing my bottle back to the hotel, putting some in a plastic cup with an appropriate volume of water, and using that as my walking around town drink. Infinitely better (and more authentically NOLA) than the frozen slop that gets you sloppy. Anyhow, I'm sure to return to pick up some beverages whenever I'm back in town. This particular visit the store was busy, per usual for a Sunday, but the cashier and cook were still friendly as usual. The parking lot is a frenzy as people are always coming and going. The store maintains the outer and inner cleanliness very well, to say the volume they receive is through the roof. I ordered the '3 piece white' chicken meal for $5.99. They had fresh fries coming up so I only had to wait an additional minute, which is no problem for fresh food. Ashley, the cashier, kept me company the whole time with humor and small convo but also keeping her main focus on her customers. I made my purchase and devoured the food. The chicken and chicken tenders are always fresh and crispy. The seasoned fries are always yummy as well. The Cajun rice is a hit a miss but even when it's a hit, it's not the flavor it would be if your mother or grandmother cooked it. The meat pies are to die for. I always order one ($1.99). The cooking area is always clean and the food is rotated pretty often. They never forget napkins or ketchup. They also have honey mustard and BBQ sauce for the tenders. As far as the gas prices, they're usually the cheapest in the area. The gas pumps are usually not a hassle because there's over 16 pumps at this location. Let's not forget they are 24 hours which is super convenient. The only downside is the area it's in, I would stick to daytime visits unless it's an emergency.
