Turmeric potato soup - awesome.
Jeremy T.

This place is so bizarre and so New Orleans. It's a mish-mosh of overpriced groceries, festival trinkets, a deli, a pizza shop, and - supposedly - a laundromat upstairs. It's open 24 hrs. For awhile after I moved to the neighborhood, I wrote this place off. But then I started trying the deli items. They're expensive. But... Some of the food and desserts are delicious. Now I've discovered the soups. I've tried a couple vegetarian soups and they are the BOMB! I did finally try the pizza (it's only available sometimes) and it was probably the third best pizza I've had in New Orleans. That's not saying much, but I'm a Chicago pizza snob and found this really good. The crust is made with cornmeal, which is a key win. Did I mention it's 24/7?

Excellent pizza, homemade dough from Kevin who has made his mark in NOLA as a bread baker. If you like his bread you'll love his pizza. Try the "In the Zone" pizza. The thin crust is like they make in Naples! The pizza are made fresh to order The bakery where the pizza is made is inside a small grocery store and has a few tables if you want to enjoy your pizza on location.

This place is truly a "Diamond in the Rough"! Located in a cute little neighborhood in New Orleans Uptown and is definitely worth a stop in! They have everything from food (pizza, donuts, king cake, salads, sandwiches) to grow very items and of course MARDI GRAS NECESSITIES (beads, masks, boas, and more)!!!! I stopped by to have lunch and pick up a few things and I must say I am impressed with the levels of service and the quality of food! I definitely will be back!!!

Expensive $4.50 for 2 Pepcid. HOT inside the store. Limited selection. Manager was okay though.

They have good stuff and nobody yells at you. Also if you have on a nice shirt someone outside will tell you you have a nice shirt.

Central Grocery & Deli - Original Muffuletta Sandwich

The line stretched to the door, but we were out and headed to Jackson Square with our sandwich in less than 20 minutes. (So much better than sitting in the deli!). Inside you'll find a few spaces to eat your sandwich, with some chairs. The dining space is kind of an afterthought. Definitely take it to go and watch some street musicians. The bread holds up to the cold cuts and olive tapenade. We ordered 1.5 sandwiches and didn't even crack open the half sandwich, 2 adults, 2 teenagers, and one kid. We also shared a pistachio cheesecake, which was delicious. I'd eat this sandwich any day. So. Good.

I…read morenever ever write reviews because I believe they hurt small businesses and feeds the egos of the ignorant, but that being said this place pissed me the fuck off with their service. I come to central deli whenever I'm with someone not from New Orleans due to the fact their muffuletta is quintessential! I would like to reiterate nothing was wrong with the food , great food purely with the lady taking orders. I got a classic half muffuletta and a "glass" San pellegrino. The lady then told me open glass is prohibited in New Orleans , I retorted with "o really I didn't know that , since when?" Before I could finish The lady then yelled with "SINCE FOREVER, IM SORRY YOUVE BEEN TO BAD BARS WHERE THEY SERVE YOU GLASS ITS BEEN ILLEGAL SINCE THE 50s" which isn't true the city changed the law in 2001. She then proceeded to open my glass bottle even though I told her I didn't want it open, so I the asked if I could get another one since she was in rage mode and didn't understand that she just contradicted herself. As I asked for the second San Pellegrino, she then takes the first one and goes "NO PROBLEM THANKS FOR THE FREE DRINK", and starts to drink the San Pellegrino infront of me as I check out, making thirst quenching noises like "AHH". As I leave she can't help but remind me for her free drink again. I'm pretty sure the management witness this whole situation and I hope they do something about, that lady doesn't realize what hospitality is and needs to be fired. I did nothing to her and I bet I wasn't the first she has blow up on. But in my eyes absolutely unacceptable.

My food was hot n ready within 10 minutes. What I got: crawfish pie (10/5) -- $2.99 for this masterpiece. it is basically crawfish etouffee mixed with some rice stuffed into pie dough. savory, got a nice kick of heat, and love how pronounced the bell pepper flavor is shrimp po boy (10/5) -- everything is just so balanced and went down like nothing because it is so effortlessly addictive. Shrimp are seasoned and fried perfectly. came out to ~$10 and the 6" is HUGE, also easily customizable chicken sausage gumbo (5/5) -- literally feels/tastes like it is made with love. perfectly seasoned, hearty, savory, nice chunks of smoked sausage, good portion of rice It will be on my list to return to whenever I come to New Orleans.

Hidden gem ALERT!!!!!…read more I explored the French Quarter for more authentic eats, and escaped Burbon St...mission complete. New Orleans version of a NY bodega is where I found one of the best and most adorable shrimp po'boys. You'll have to put these directions into your phone, because the location is in the depths of the neighborhood district. It's walkable to and from the popular Canal Street, just much quieter and secluded. You won't be able to park on this particular street, but near by areas would allow for street parking. This is in fact a grocery store with a hot food market setup in the back. I was pleasantly greeted immediately as I entered by a gentleman stocking, and a nice lady behind the register. I immediately darted to the back of the store and saw the setup, simple with a bit of updated technology. You can order and pay at a tablet style screen, and wait for the magic to be made on the other side. It took about 5 minutes and I got a text my order was ready, the same gentleman who was stocking called out my name from the back and handed me a 12 inch shrimp po'boy for 12.00. This sandwich was incredible, loaded with crispy fried shrimp and fresh lettuce. The bun was soft and very fresh, I added extra pickles for an acidic flavor breakup to the fried fish and dough. The flavors were on point, very seasoned and perfectly cooked shrimp. I was very impressed by the price and quality....not to mention customer service. Pro Tip: My van driver mentioned to me before dropping me off at the hotel, a lot of people walk Burbon Street and turn around when it becomes residential. But there is actually a ton of life and experiences to be had off the beaten path, both local and authentic.

I had skipped on it before because I'm not much of a sandwich person, but found out about the hot bar and opted for the ribs, mac & cheese and steamed cabbage. Ribs were okay. A bit fatty for my taste because I don't like removing it from my mouth in public. Some portions of it needed more sauce. Probably the most annoying part of it was the small plastic fork & knife I was provided to cut them, but then again, most people probably would have picked them up and eaten with their hands. Mac and cheese was just mac and cheese The cabbage was AMAZING! It also had bits of broccoli in it and was very well flavored.
