I was on a walk/run this morning and on my way back home I stopped in for a Diet Coke. When I got to the counter I realized I did not bring my wallet with me (which is not uncommon on early morning walk/runs). The young man behind the counter very graciously said "you can just come back and pay for it next time you are here." I was quite stunned at such kindness. I left with my drink and immediately went home, got my wallet, and returned to pay. He even said "oh you didn't have to come back right away." His simple act of trust and kindness really put such a smile on my face today. I wish I had gotten his name, but whoever you are, thank you for your compassion and humanity today. read more

We were visiting and staying at an Airbnb rental down the street and stopped in here for items to make breakfast. The store is pretty well stocked and we grabbed eggs, bread and "bacon". The prices are a little high but, it's a local grocer so you are supporting local and it's a convenience factor if you are near here. The quality of the products was a bit disappointing because some of the eggs were bad in the package, the bread was a bit stale and the "bacon" was definitely not bacon. It wasn't even baconesque! It was more like corned beef or something related to ham. I'm really unsure and we still discuss what it was two months later. Maybe it was just an off day! read more

Well it is what it is .. don't expect service or even civility .. supposedly it's 24 hours ... but it wil be closed randomly .. if you can get in the counter 'help' will be on the phone and barely if at all acknowledge that your there. Where do I start, I love this business. I used to live within walking distance so I was here almost every day. They have a little bit of everything. For the location everything is surprisingly well priced. A few items I frequently purchase from them are fresh lemons and limes, alcohol, scratchers, eggs and dog bones. It's the closest thing to me and so I stop in often. The people there are always very nice to me, so I don't mind that the prices are mini-mart expensive. They have a good selection of basic needs (soap, laundry detergent, paper goods), beer and liquor. They also have a small selection of ready-to-eat food and even a frozen section (that included some Amy's organic?!). To me, saving a few dollars, walking further and having people who are rude doesn't make any sense, so it's really nice to have this right around the corner. read more

The ONLY good thing about this place is it's open 24hrs. But so is Verti Marte, a few blocks away at Gov. Nicholls and Royal. Go to Verti Marte instead!!! It's wayyy better! I've lived a couple of blocks away for four years, and the guy who often works late night is hateful, and rude. They sell virtually nothing healthy to eat, have mostly junk food, and overpriced beer and wine. I went in there tonight (even though I've sworn off the place because the counter staff is so cold) because I wanted some wine and didn't want to go out of my way after a long night's work. I walk in this morning (3:25 a.m.) take a bottle of wine to the counter and say "Good morning," and he doesn't look at me and says nothing; rings it up and says nothing. I look at the cash register and it says $10.99. The price sticker on the shelf with the name of the wine I picked up on it says $8.99. I say, calmly, "It says it's $8.99 on the shelf." Now, a decent human being who cared about his business and customers would've said, "Sorry, we need to update that," or something to that effect. Instead he says with the vitriol of a nasty schoolteacher from the 19th Century "What does it say here?" showing me the price tag I hadn't noticed on the top of the bottle. Realizing this was the same guy who's caused me to walk out of the store before because he was so rude (years ago), I refuse to pay, walk out, and swear off the place, for the third or fourth time. Go to Verti Marte, or The Quarter Master on Bourbon and Ursulines (Also 24hrs).
