Also, as soon as I arrived, I made sure to show her my dress and tell her that my earrings/necklace/shoes were silver. When I asked her to change the eyeshadow color, she got upset and told me that I had not informed her of the jewelry/shoe color. She didn't change it, saying that the black/grey smokey eye I wanted was unprofessional. When I asked her to remove eyeliner from my lower-lid, rather than use makeup remover, she simply applied more foundation over it in a rushed and annoyed manner. Also, she charged $120 for 80 minutes, and did not use the full two hours to apply the changes I had asked for. She should have charged $80 for 80 minutes as per their rates. I was happy with my hair, but the makeup was too much and very cakey.

I had a trial with another makeup artist but was looking for a more natural look for my wedding day since I didn't want to not look like myself or look too overdone plus my now Husband doesn't like me with too much makeup on. I did browsing on the Knot and came across Kristen's profile and instantly feel in love with the pictures and the "natural" look she had on her brides. When I found out she was still available on my wedding date, I was ecstatic and quickly set up my trial to lock her in for my big day. Not only was she super flexible with scheduling my trial (she actually did it on my birthday to make me feel even more special that day :) ) but her laid back energy and down to earth vibe made me feel so relaxed and at ease not only at my trial but on my wedding day. Of course the day before my wedding out of nowhere, a huge pimple popped up right by my lip. In a panic the night before I popped it but the next day it was really red and still peeling (gross I know), but Kristen SAVED THE DAY and covered it up completely to the point that you couldn't even tell that I had a breakout. Kristen is fantastic to work with and is truly an expert - she's worked in the industry for years and is developing her own stuff which I can't wait to purchase in the future! I cannot recommend her enough and truly thank her for making me look beautiful on my wedding day.

I did not want to look "painted" or, not like myself. Kristen not only listened to my concerns, and acknowledged them, but she also was able to do my make up in a way that not only accentuated my features, and gave me a soft, feminine look that lasted literally all day. I have never felt so beautiful! Not only did my make up hold up, and look amazing from 9am to 10pm, she also did an incredible job on my bridesmaids as well. We all looked our best, and I'm so thankful for Kristen's expertise, and ease to be around.

She has such a calming and positive energy about her, it was truly a joy and relief to be in her hands that day. She ran on time and got all of us girls done and looking absolutely gorgeous! I've had my makeup professionally done many, many times and her work was hands down the best it ever looked! She really took my features and skin concerns into consideration and emphasized exactly what should have been. I've since recommended her to so many people and I keep getting thank you's! Thanks Danielle, you're a gem!

Fine, this fee was additional for her time I get it, but I wrote back saying I wanted to speak to my husband regarding the price increase and then just generally asked if we could do 30/45 minutes earlier instead of an hour and a half as she suggested/ so it wasn't so early and she was quick to say we wouldn't be a good match. I never questioned her pricing or work, I was just inquiring about a later start time to sleep in a bit more when a full day of events is ahead. I was quite upset with how she handled the conversation and was so quick to turn away working together due to making an assumption that I didn't want to pay or that I wanted a discount? I never asked nor mentioned anything about a discount or lowering her price. It is a shame because I wanted to work together and had no issues with the pricing for the services provided- I just wanted to clear with my husband (especially since he's the one paying for and driving me to the event hence why timing is important). Wouldn't recommend her because of the way this scenario went. I am planning on using another hair/makeup artist that will not act this way. 2 stars because she is responsive via email. So I'll be fair and give credit when it comes to her communication.

I decided not to book Marci because: 1. She was late to the…read moretrial. 2. She was unprepared for the trial (she did not bring airbrush makeup). 3. She applied makeup in a heavy and sloppy manner (overdrawn lips, muddy cheeks, obvious eye brows, patchy foundation, wrong color foundation). 4. She applied a liquid highlighter and it streaked down my cheek, but she never corrected it (among other mess ups she did not correct). 5. She used heavy and cheap false eye lashes. 6. She was unresponsive during the trial when I told her I was not happy with how the makeup turned out. 7. The updo she gave me fell out approximately 1 hour later. I didn't even go outside with it. 8. She cashed both the trial and deposit checks (a total of $408) despite my expressed unhappiness with her work.

The day of my hair trial not only was she a dream come true, it turned out that the makeup artist that I had booked for my wedding also happened to be her BFF. The way they work together is perfect which made my day absolutely stress free. I love her style, she's spunky, funny, and keeps it 100% real. She did my coloring, extensions and style for my wedding day as well as my styles for my bridesmaids, flower girl, and mom. I could not be happier with how beautiful everyone looked! My advice for brides is don't go cheap on yourself. Get someone who is actually a hairdresser not someone who claims to do it all but really doesn't excel in either hair or makeup. It's YOUR day, you want to look and feel like a queen!

Little bit of advice....some of the best and hard working talent around can be found in the smaller places...as is in this case- I decided to try out a groupon for Hairvana on a hunch today as I am still on my quest for a place closer to home other than my orginal favorite up in northport. I have to say, Upon meeting Roy madr, the new owner I was immediately so comfortable. This is a new location and he is a doll- he understands what a woman needs and seems to be one of the least judgmental stylists I have met. The staff treat each other with respect and kindness. I can tell Roy sees this small staff as his family and vice versa. What a lovely unexpected chance to relax. No uncomfortable cold stares, no chaos (yet)---This is relatively new and a work in progress and little by little he is making changes amidst taking excellent care of every person who walks through the door. My high lights look amazing and I have to say Id rather give my hard earned money towards the future of this small special place and owner than almost anywhere I have been too.
