On more than one occasion, when I randomly compliment a woman's hair, she say oh I went to the place on Mott st ! After this happened enough times I decided to check them out. I stopped by on a rainy Wednesday morning and they were ready to take me right away but I had to come back later on. Luckily they took me at that time. I got a balayage, and the man convinced me to go less red and more on the brown blonde side because he was afraid it would go orange. Which I don't mind. But I trusted his judgement. I was in the salon about 3-4 hours for the color and haircut and wash and blow dry. The haircut I received was one of the best I've ever had. Very pleased. I think the guys name was Danny. I just paid $25 for a blowout and you bet I'll be back here ALL the time. It's a no-frills salon, you don't need an appointment (just come early), AND they're open all day on Sunday. SHAMPOO: smells great, only $6 for a deep conditioner to be added, these wonderful shampoo ladies stand behind the sink which provides a better angle for washing all parts of your hair. Never thought about that before. Also, my neck was comfortable the entire time. This salon has it all figured out. While my deep conditioner was soaking up, I received an amazing massage followed by a hot towel on my neck and back. The woman Kylie was very nice and friendly. STYLE: haircut/trim + blow out... I feel like my hair has never looked healthier. I have thick and curly caucasian hair and I am satisfied with the treatment of and the outcome of my hair from Up Hair Salon. I decided to try this salon because my friend recommended it to me and it's super close to my house. I made an appointment and came ten minutes early and they washed my hair right away. I had to wait a little bit before getting a blow out, but it was understandable because it was a busy Saturday. I'm not sure the name of the guy who ended up blowing out my hair but I asked for light waves and absolutely loved how my hair came out. I've never laid down to get my hair washed at a salon, but it's very relaxing and they massage your scalp, back and neck which feels amazing! It's a very modern salon in the Oceanside neighborhood, inside a strip mall with enough parking spots, they do a very good job with blow-outs and haircuts as well as color treatments, the price is also very reasonable. Ask for the superstars Peter and Jayson! They have over 10 years of experience working with all kinds of hair, they are very good listeners but have their own aesthetics, it's a good idea to make an appointment first. The staff is overall very experienced, Eric did a blow-out for me, he's so lovely. I requested to have minimal products, no comb, his fingers were magic. Several of my guy friends have their haircuts done by him for years, there's a reason why they keep coming back. He's witty, a very nice guy who you could joke around with, but he listens to all your hair stories and gives you feedback, I think that's the kind of relationships stylists want to establish with their clients, and they build a connection this way. Because honestly I could get a blow-out almost anywhere. Sam is one of their colorist staff, I see clients going to him a lot for all kinds of color treatments, their senior stylists consult you on the perfect colors. Went here on a recommendation and did not like how my hair came out at all!! I asked for a blow out with some curls and Kevin dried my hair with a paddle brush (??) And then curled my hair with a straightener(?!) I asked him if he had to use the straightener and after not giving me a full reason he said yes. Then once it was all done he walked to the cash register without letting me look at it, I checked the back and asked if he could curl one random piece and that was a mistake! He got mad and as he was "fixing" it I pushed a strand out of the way and he told me "don't touch it, ok?!" I was very tempted to walk out of there at that point but he proceeded to "recurl" the top half of my hair. I paid, left and by the time I got home all the "curls" were gone and it looked as if I had slept on it, also smelled burned and not that fresh out of a salon smell The only good part was the little massage the hair washer gave me. I have been going to Up Hair Salon for a few years. Peter usually cuts my hair and always very happy, if Peter is not there I have used other Hair stylist and was happy with cut as well. I have had the Keratin treatment at least 3 times and always comes out great, they are considerably less money at Up with same high quality result. I have very thick long hair which usually cost $200.00 at other places, the treatment also lasts much longer than estimated. Pre-covid I had just walked in as I was in the area and never had a long wait. I am extremely satisfied with the salon and all the staff, I have never had an unpleasant experience interacting with staff, I am so happy they were recommended to me and I tried them and stayed as a customer. The only draw back is that I do live about 30 minutes away (with good traffic), but they have late hours and open 7 days thereby giving me options to make an appointment when traffic lighter. Only come here for blow outs and they do a great job. You can have them blow your hair out either straight or curly and it always comes out great. They take walk ins which is good but I tend to make an appointment to be sure that I am seen. Sometimes I do wit a bit but that is totally understandable and it's good to be at a salon that is busy. Only reason that I didn't give 5 starts is that sometimes they blow the hair out and use a flat iron. I feel that a flat iron defeats the purpose of the blow dryer in this case. Once I asked the girl to use jus brushes and she got annoyed. Then she has the brush sitting in my hair and the hot bristle burned my neck(had a burn mark to prove it). Other than that everyone works with you and doesn't make you feel bad about using just brushes. My only other reason for not giving 5 stars is because the woman who wash your hair are inconsistent. For many years I have gotten a Japanese straightening. I decided to give Up Hair Salon a chance to see how the costly straightening comes out. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst straightening's I've ever had. My family who is accustomed to seeing my hair very straight after going through the 4 hour ordeal did not believe that I actually had it done. Extremely disappointed. So disappointed in my most recent visit to Up Salon. I've been a frequent flyer there for a while now because of their low prices and good quality stylists, but today was just awful. I arrived to a busy salon around 3:00 p.m. and asked the owner, Peter, if he thought I'd be out by 4:00. He said it's only a 25 minute wait right now, so he thought yes. I didn't get washed until about 3:45. At 4:00, after watching him take 3 clients who arrived after me but "had appointments" he told me I'd be next in about 5 minutes. 10 minutes later, 4:10, they took another client instead of me. Since I had somewhere to be, I couldn't wait any longer and I had to leave with a wet head. They are so busy in there, which I am so happy about, but I don't understand why Peter wasn't just honest with me when I asked him at 3:00 what he thought my time table would be. I'm always nervous getting my haircut and have NEVER walked out of a salon LOVING my hair the way I love my hair right now. I am very picky, which is why I dye my hair at home. My ends were fried and needed a trim bad. Most places don't understand the meaning of trim and usually end up hacking off way more than asked. I got a dry cut and loved the immediate results. The hair dresser (sadly didn't catch his name) was very attentive to what I asked and showed me he was only cutting a little bit off. He styled my hair exactly how I asked. I hate to do these reviews being that I am in the hair business but I felt the need to let everyone know about my experience here. I am a hair stylist licensed at a high end salon in bellmore. Sometimes I like to go get a quick blowout up the block from my house when I am just exhausted to do it myself. I went in there and had a great shampoo. But once I got my blowout it was a disaster. Being that I am in the industry I know a lot about what a proper blowout consists of. I sat in the chair and told the tall skinny guy with blonde hair ( I did not get his name) that I wanted it blown under. Not straight just under. He started drying it straight so I gave him a chance to see what he was going to do but I ended up speaking up and saying I need it under. He told me he would use an iron for that. Which is an extra charge at this salon which isn't even necessary. You should be able to blow the hair with the round brush under. The blow dryer was way to hot he burnt me a lot of times and my hair smelt like I was holding a flat iron to it for minutes. I left the salon with my hair feeling super damaged smelt like burnt hair and looking like a mess. Lessons learned. I'll do my hair myself lmao. read more

My hair is terribly damaged strip down, worse is melting down from Keratin process done by up and color in the roots which had caused me severe itching, flakes and hair lost. In two weeks I have to proceed with two severe hair cuts and crazy hair loss. I did confronted the hair salon's owner and did said he was experiencing the same thing and thought it was funny. Procedí good saying that I was old and my hair cannot be possibly the same and that I may need a boyfriend instead. After I spend it close to $300 dollars cash because they will charge me more if I pay with my debit card. I would never go back to this place. My hair is severely damaged as we speak. read more
