I've been to many salons for color and highlights in the NYC area, and was extremely disappointed with the services we received here. I last took my daughter to get her hair cut and permanently colored a bright red in Oct 2023. $380 later she ended up with: 1) A layer of her long thick hair was CUT BACK UNDERNEATH all the way to her scalp. We 100% did not ask for this thinning, or whatever was being attempted. It's ridiculous when she tries to wear her hair up. (see photo attached with 11 months of growth) 2) The red dye lasted maybe 3 weeks, even while using the shampoos and conditioners for red hair. It was supposed to be a permanent dye that was applied after the hair was lightened but apparently was not. I also had my hair cut here three times. Overall, meh. It's way too expensive for what they are providing, and the younger stylists seem not to want to be bothered with women over 50. read more

I had came in for a haircut, very basic trim and style. My stylist could not figure out how to cut my hair, asked me over and over if I thought it looked good, and it did not. A different stylist ended up "fixing" my hair- but it was unsuccessful. I went back once more to get an ombre, figuring the original girl was just having a bad day- I was wrong. My ombre just looks like terrible streaky highlights, no gradual fading- just chunky highlights. I really wanted to love this place but I will not be returning. read more

This shop is gorgeous (and not based on solely the aesthetic, but the heart and passion from the people who work there). I arrived 10 minutes early since this was my first visit and wanted to make sure I spoke with my artist, Jules, before getting a cut. Well, the appointment that was before me, arrived about 5 minutes after me and was a tyrant! She was SO rude to the extremely polite staff at the desk and barking demands after demand. The staff was so professional in dealing with this nightmare of a client. They accommodated her even with basically missing her entire appointment. This of course delayed my appointment, which I kind of go with the flow, so it did t matter to me. When I finally sat, Jules felt terrible and did everything in her power to make it up (even though it was 100% not her fault) and the manager was super apologetic and accommodating. So I don't hate this place but I'm still not too happy. Jules worked on my hair and she did an amazing job BUT when I walked in I explained the botched job I had before. BEFORE THAT when I scheduled my appointment, I said half head of highlights (I can't do the nape of my neck because my curls matte especially with bleach) and a cut. When she greeted me she said "half head of highlights and cut", I said yes. WELL, not only did she do a full head of highlights but did a bunch of treatments as well. I walked in thinking I was going to pay $150 MAYBE (because of the pricing online). NO.. I paid a fat $330. My jaw almost hit the ground because I was like what the heck did I do for $300+. I feel taken advantage of. Will not be going back not because the hair was bad (bc it was bomb) but because I'm not going to pay $300+ for something I did not ask for. read more

Not surprising the lack of tolerance as they proudly display a flag lumping every non "straight" person together on their window. This is one of the best things to come to Long Beach. Walking into this "eco-friendly" salon you are greeted by lovely women who welcome you, offer you coffee and take you on a beautiful journey. After going to another local shop multiple times and being disappointed again and again, I tried out the chop shop. One time there and I'm blown away. The ambiance is clean and quaint. The girls are all very sweet and welcoming. Every person in their chairs was happy. I had Katie. She was very knowledgeable and friendly. I instantly felt comfortable and confident in her care (which says a lot because I get nervous every time someone cuts my long locks). We talked about everything from her time in Hawaii to her lab retriever. Very easy to talk to. But that's not the selling point... the hair cut was EXACTLY what I wanted and I look like a rockstar. Came here for a haircut, as I had not had one in over a year and have only heard good things. My hair was super long with dead ends and no shape at all. A mop, if you will. I looked like cousin It--not cute. Jules gave me a great haircut, probably the best haircut I have had in YEARS. Absolutely loved this place! The decor is friggen adorable. So well put and inviting. Nicole did an amazing job on my hair. I have very long and thick hair that takes a long time to do and she did not rush one bit. Nicole gave me the perfect color and trim adding long layers. She even curled it for me to a nice beach wave for New Year's Eve. A huge plus is they use cruelty free products (I'm a vegetarian) the price was not bad either. I randomly called up the Chop Shop on a Saturday morning while driving to LB. My girlfriend, who lives in Atlantic Beach was doing my makeup for a family wedding and I wanted a quick blowout on my way home. The Chop Shop was extremely accommodating with my last minute request for a blowout. I walked in and absolutely loved the atmosphere and decor. Everyone was so friendly and I had the best blowout of my life. My hair was washed and still wet and I trusted my stylist to do what she thought would work best on my hair. I have long, pin straight, fine hair. My hair lasted all day and night and I couldn't believe how she turned my pin straight hair into a full, wavy, beautiful blowout. I live 20 miles from Chop Shop but will 100% be driving back to LB for a blowout and will try other services. I tried this place just because I needed a new salon and it's right here in the center of town. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating right from the beginning. The salon is much bigger than I thought it would be. It was super clean and modern. All the chairs were comfortable- just the right amount of squishy and looked easy to clean between clients. Noelle was my hairdresser and she was terrific. It was evident she knew exactly what I wanted right away as she was able to complete my sentences with accuracy! Fast, efficient, and neat job. I am pretty easy going when it comes to getting my hair done. I've been to a lot of really nice NYC salons like Bumble and Cutler. I've also made my way through Long Beach. After a stylist I really liked at Joseph Christoper left I was transient for a while. I've been to chop shop 3 x now. Gina is the gal I go to. I'm really liking it so far--the place is super cute, feels very boho chic -Jonathan Adler. Services are well priced, appointments run on time and staff is pretty friendly. They use all green, natural products that are pretty costly but smell great, even a day after you've had a service completed. Gina is very competent and nice to talk to. Recommend, though it takes a while to get an appointment-which means they are doing it right! read more

I really wanted to love this place. Sadly, I don't think I'll be returning. With that said, I usually have never written anything but shining reviews about business I go to. I'm a few years new to the Long Beach community, and had only tried Avi and Joseph Christopher since living here. I thought to try a new place to compare? Now I'm saying "OK" because the stylist was a nice woman, and the decor is very cool. But overall service was lacking (and I'm not hard to please). I went for a baylage (hair painting) which I've had done numerous times before. This time, I was in the chair from start to finish for over 2hours! Sadly, a lot of that time was spent sitting, even after the timer went off. Another aspect that was unsettling is that my stylist had like two other clients at the same time. Therefore, when I was done, one of the assistants had to do my blowout. By the end of the service, I didn't even see that much difference than before I came in! I think she felt my disappointment and offered for me to come back if I wanted more toner? Perhaps it was just an off day, but I'd expect a little more personal care after spending a lot of time....and money! (not even getting a haircut ) If I had to do this all over again, I'd choose and recommended Avi Salon next time. So far his services have been the best in my opinion. read more

Like any other shop I did find my "one" stylist, Jules, that I will use on a regular basis. She does an amazing color and cut, but if I was in a pinch for a needed cut, and she wasn't in or available, I would not hesitate to have any of the staff do the job.
