I am very dissatisfied with the outcome of my hair, as well as with the response I received when I went back there to discuss with the owner. I went to the salon twice prior to my actual appointment, to discuss what I wanted with the stylist - a loose big curl body wave that I didn't have to use the hair dryer or the curling on every day. I brought pictures. She examined my hair at length. We spoke about it. And advised that she would be able to do it. When I went for the appointment, I again brought pictures and discussed my expectations with the stylist, who again assured me she could do it.
She couldn't.
The end result is nothing like the pictures I brought in, or what we discussed. During the actual "rolling" process, the stylist spoke to another stylist who was assisting and mentioned when she looked up directions on how to do the body wave (!!!), it said to only use 20 rollers to get those big loose curls. The other stylist said "that's not right, we don't do it that way". As I am not a professional I took them at their word.
Once the rollers came out and I saw what my hair looked like, I expressed my disappointment to the stylist and again brought out the picture for comparison. She told me, "oh, that's a blow out, you have to use the hair dryer to get that." When I pointed out that she never once mentioned that, she said "I guess we should have explained it better." When I left the salon I took it upon myself to look up how to achieve the big, loose wave curl I was looking for and guess what? 20-30 rollers. And bigger than the ones they used based on my hair type / length.
To add insult to injury - when I went back to discuss with the owner I got attitude from both the stylist and the owner. The stylist was there. She came up to the counter and pretty much slammed the tip I gave her down ("here's your tip back") and proceeded to tell me that I had asked for a beach wave perm. Which I most definitely did not. The owner then proceeded to give me a number of "reasons" why my hair came out the way it did - " Your hair is very fine" "You can't expect to just wash and go, that's hair ABC" "Your hair needs to be layered" (NOTE, the stylist did add additional layers prior to rolling) "These stylists are professionals, they've done thousands of perms" etc. etc. etc. I showed him the picture of what I wanted and asked him if that in any way resembled what I ended up with. More "reasons" why it did not. Would not refund my money, he gave me bottle of shampoo and advised I had to "work at it" to achieve that look.
Maybe my expectations were unrealistic (the owner also pointed THAT out), but I should have been told that prior to having the process done. I would not have had it done at all had I know what the result would be.
Note, I did not take the tip back as the stylist did work for 2+ hours.
Pictures are below. I will not be going back to Avi's for any future hair styling needs. read more
