Frank has been my hairdresser since 2003. I first started going to him when he worked in New York City. He does such an amazing job on my hair that I have traveled from Westchester County where I live to Long Beach for the past 12 years to have him cut my hair. He's definitely worth the trip! Researching Yelp reviews I read about Frank at Beech Comber on the west end of Long Beach. I knew I had to take a chance ... It is scary to make a change, especially with one's hair. But I had to ... My previous hair stylist left the salon I went to in Oceanside (-- now 3 stars from 5). The owner at my previous hair salon was my stylist's replacement. Now one would think this was good -- but it wasn't. Not only not comparable in skill sets, but very moody, and kept answering the phone mid hair cut (--3 times)!!! Clearly distracted, my hair was chopped into long, uneven layers that needed 8 weeks to grow out! ... SO I finally got my nerve up and found myself today at Beech Comber. And as the Yelp reviews promised, the Beech Comber was warm, clean, and tidy. Very happy that Frank looked, listened, suggested -- and was very calm. Finally! I finally found a hair stylist who understood and could deliver the cut I wanted and that stylist is Frank! I have thick, wavy hair and know that a layered cut is best for me but could not find anyone who could do a long shag cut. I would say my search has taken me over 10 years and I was almost resigned to just making do with the basic trims I was getting until I went to Beech Comber! The salon is clean & cheerful. The staff is equally as cheerful and very welcoming. Frank took the time to talk to me and listen to what I wanted and frankly, before I even said anything, he mentioned a layered cut. Let me start out by saying, I hate getting my hair cut. I have very long, straight hair and I am ALWAYS disappointed... Frank did not disappoint. He is a perfectionist and might have a little OCD because I have never had a better hair cut and he kept my hair the EXACT length I wanted it to be, even after a lot of layering and angling. I have too much hair and needed it to feel lighter and look more voluminous. He handles every deliberate snip of hair with care and focus and he is very personable but doesn't talk your ear off like some stylists I've been to (I always worry about whether they're paying attention to what they're doing because they aren't looking at my hair as they cut it!) I was hesitant to go to a local hair salon, as I normally go to NYC to get my hair cut and am very fussy about who cuts it. I was desperate and looked up some places in the area and Beech Comber had great reviews, so I gave it a shot. Frank greeted me at the door and was very warm from the moment I walked in. I appreciated the time he took to talk to me to talk about my wants and special attention he took to not loose my length which I expressed was most important. Ana, his shampoo girl and assistance was very nice and even made me a green tea. Frank took his time, was very detailed and felt very comfortable in his chair. I left with bouncy deep conditioned hair, it felt so healthy and just great! my Hair was hit that evening at dinner and received a number of compliments. I needed a blowout on Sunday so I checked yelp to see who was open. I looked at rating of salon close to wear I lived and found Beech Comber in Long Beach had a 5 star rating, so I called and was lucky to get a 9am appt. When I arrived there were 2 men stylists and a shampoo girl. I was assigned to one of the men and the other customer was with the other stylist!. I showed the stylist a picture of my short hair style! He immediately said "I'm not the one for short hair!" The other costumer had long hair so so the 2 stylist said let's switch. My stylist was excellent with long hair! So we switched! The gentleman that did my hair was outstanding!!! He knew exactly how I wanted my hair and did a great great job! I've been looking for a new stylist preferably not too far from my home. I checked out Yelp and found very favorable reviews for Beech Comber. I decided to give them a try so I went Saturday morning, no appointment. To my surprise Frank (the owner) accepted this walk in and went to work knowing exactly what I wanted. He's very warm and personable and immediately put me at ease. I have very short hair that needed reshaping into more of a pixie cut. My hair is extremely fine so any cut that makes it looker fuller and with texture is what I need. My mom loved my haircut so much that she declared it's the best haircut I've ever had. Frank, the owner, has an expertise clearly unsurpassed. This salon is a "gem"! It was my first visit for a haircut from long, humdrum locks to short and trendy. I met my new hairdresser, Elizabeth who greeted me with a beautiful smile and she made me feel so welcomed. She listened to my styling ideas and took time to create my new asymmetrical hairstyle. Elizabeth created my new style like an artist. She would cut each section and then stand back to ensure every angle was perfect. She truly cared about making me happy with my new style. Frank owner and stylist is the best! I lived in NYC for the last 30 years and had access to the best stylists in the world. Frank and his salon in Long Beach does not disappoint. He is just as good if not better. In fact, he gave me one of the best haircuts I ever had. I am not one who usually likes change and allow someone I do not know to cut my hair. However I needed a hair cut terrible, I was doing research and came across Frank. I used to go to barbershops/ try a lot of different places and was never 100% happy until I tried the beech comber randomly - Frank cuts the best hair hands down.
