Being that beauty supply stores are far and few in between in the Atascocita/Humble area, I was…read morepleasantly delighted to find this place!
Sally's tends to lack a diverse selection of ethnic brands, especially for natural hair wearers, so finding this supply place (with reasonable pricing) is a welcomed addition to the area. It took me several months to actually scope out the place. I was inside of Kroger shopping when someone came up to me with a sample product and stated that they had opened a beauty supply down the way. From Kroger, you really can't see the location very well (a little isolated and no direct parking lot from the road), but in desperation, I decided to find the beauty supply one day to seek out a possible wig selection to tide me over until a hair appointment. During my first visit, the wigtician was very accommodating and let me try on as many wigs as I wanted (granted there is a sign that says there is a 3 wig try on limit, but that's only if it's really busy according to the wigtician. Since I am not a wig wearer, it took me awhile to select something to try on--a couple of wigs were just for kicks like the micro braid wig. After soliciting suggestions and being informed on which wigs were human and synthetic as well as the ones with the lace front parts, I tried on about five wigs, but really didn't find anything that I would be confident enough in wearing outside my house, The wigtician understood and invited me to come back anytime once I was more secure with my wig selection.
I wandered around after deciding not to get a wig just to get a feel of the inventory and the pricing. Compared to other places in and around the Houston area, the prices are comparable, if not cheaper than some beauty supply places. For example, I was looking for a matte lipstick that looked beautiful on my cousin. She told me that she bought it for $3.99 at her nearby beauty supply. I found various brands of matte lipstick starting at $1.99 at CC Beauty. Almost bought it, but chose a matte lip gloss that was only 99 cents just to get a feel for the look.
As far as hair selection, you should be able to find what you're looking for, but as far as pricing, I cannot say because I can never pinpoint a "good price" for hair. I will say that the type of hair you're buying is clearly labeled on the hair, so to see a woman come into the store on my second visit and state that she bought the wrong type of hair because the person assisting her allowed her to buy a "blend" versus "human hair" is a pitiful excuse. True the person helping her should have made sure she bought human hair if that's what she wanted, but I always look at what I'm buying! Course, there are no refunds or exchanges, so that was a waste of her money. Always look at what you're buying is basic 101 of hair buying no matter what you're told.
The most important aspect of my visits was knowing that I was valued. I was greeted upon entering and exiting. Additionally, when I inquired about a product in a different color, they told me next time, they would stock it. Furthermore, when I questioned the price of an item, the cashier went back to the shelf and confirmed the price. Most importantly, I didn't feel hassled nor followed around like I was going to get my five finger discount on. I like being treated with respect above all else, which makes me a customer more than a critic.
