I paid $90 plus tip for these lumpy misshaped witch claws. I was hoping for classy, coffin French tips. Had to ask for reshaping a few times because the nails were all lopsided and pointing in different directions, until another tech came in to try to salvage. I'm due for a fill, it being 2 weeks later, but not sure if I would give this salon another try. It looks like I let my nephew learn how to do acrylics and let him have at it, and I'm frankly embarrassed and hiding my hands. The only positive feedback is that these things are NOT coming off or lifting up. If I could get the same seal to the nail with pretty nails I would go back every time.

My nail tech listened to all my requests and exceeded my expectations. I needed a lot of cuticle care, and it's hard to find somewhere who will do really thorough Russian manicure style cuticle work. The quality of the manicure is exceptional, and I especially loved the complementary paraffin wax treatment -- my favorite! Everyone was super nice, it was a calm, relaxing environment and really blows every other shop in town out of the water. I've had a few good experiences in the past, and I'm not someone who's particularly picky when it comes to my nails--I usually just need them to look clean and last a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was really disappointing. They didn't have the pink/nude color I picked, nor the alternative I chose, and the end color was completely wrong. The dip manicure took nearly two hours, which made me miss a reservation I had afterward. Even worse, the end result just wasn't up to par. The dip powder was applied in at least five thick layers, making my nails look bulky and unnatural. The edges were sloppy, and there was visible residue left on my skin and around the nail beds for days. What was also crazy, is that the tech kept dumping way too much powder to coat them (using half the jar!!) and blowing it off in my direction. I was completely (I mean COMPLETELY) covered in dip powder that other customers stuck their fingers in by the end of the appointment. Now that I've left Massachusetts, the dip is already chipping and catching on things. It's frustrating because when you're traveling, sometimes you just need your nails to look decent until you get home--but this time, they didn't even meet that basic standard. I really want to continue supporting this business when I'm in town, but I hope management will consider providing additional training for their technicians. Attention to detail truly matters, and with a little more consistency, Sophia's could be a reliable spot. 2 stars because there aren't really any other options in the area. (Note: the photo with the red nails was taken a few years ago (I've had pretty good luck since then, but not this last time).

Very intelligent, well-informed, and a good listener. I was a newbie when I started seeing her and she really listened to what I wanted, how hard I was on my nails, and what would suit me best. I have a gel polish now that has lasted 2 weeks through gardening, cooking, and being a nurse. There is lots of free parking, just a couple of blocks from downtown. There is an attached hair salon, too. Great atmosphere--you feel like you've walked into a group of friends having coffee and a laugh--without the coffee. The only reason this is not a 5 star is because she is quite booked and it is really hard to get an appointment. Leave a message though, and she will get back to you in a jiffy.
