Honestly I have no complaints. They worked with me when it came to actually making my appointment. I kept rescheduling due to work but once I got here I was happy. I was greeted and brought into my room once I presented my Groupon bday gift from my best friend. The room was clean, smelled clean and the music was very calming. I totally forgot to get the young lady's name that did my facial, but she was very sweet, she explained what she would be doing and did warn me about the extraction process and that it may be painful around the nose area to remove the blackheads. This isn't my first facial but it's been a while and I knew it wouldn't be pleasant lol but "beauty is pain" right ladies??? My face was cleansed, washed, toned, and moisturized. I was also given a mask and a steamer was used. This was very relaxing and a great experience. She was careful about my lash extensions, because I was nervous that it would make them come off but nope. She also gave me a little massage which was pleasant, wish I payed for that lol because it felt so good. I did not want to leave. As a Groupon purchaser I've experience some businesses treat me differently because I payed less but not here. Can we say INTEGRITY!!! EYELASH PERM: I have already posted before, but I can't sign into my previous account. I always get my lashes permed here. I haven't used any of their other services. I previously didn't care about who did my lashes, but the last time I went definitely didn't like the results of my lashes and that was because it wasn't Sue who did them. As long as Sue does it, it comes out perfect. She is patience, she is kind, and she focuses on the details of making your experience comfortable. I can't say the same about others there. So if you want to book a service, I would suggest only booking with Sue. It takes about 1.5 hours, but sometimes it's faster. Sometimes it's longer. Just depends on the stubbornness of my extremely straight lashes. I've also been perming my lashes for over 10 years, and this is still my favorite spot (only because of Sue). It's been a year since I've gotten a facial, boy my pores reminds me so. Was hesitant at first since COVID is still very real, but decided to call ahead of time to confirm that I will not be sharing a room with anyone and went for it. Glad to find that they were super cautious with temp checks, asked me to sanitize on entry, and even sprayed my clothes and the bottom of my shoes down. The wonderful lady that did my facial was name Shirley or sherry I believe, she was masked up and had a face shield on. Extractions are always painful but I really needed to detox and she kept checking in to see if I was ok. Couldn't have felt more safe and clean and I would come back again. I never had a bad experience with any facial place until today. I came in here for a facial I purchased a a facial deal For 45$ I wanted to try this place out. She spent 35 min doing the facial. After she was done, my face was all red with red spots. The cleaning was not good at all. I always go for a facial at other places and i always leave with a clean pores but this place seriously didn't do a good job. My face was burning me. After I left, I told her that I had blackheads she missed but she yelled at me and said buy another facial.. then she asked me for a 20$ tip even though I tried to tipped her the only cash (8$) I had in my wallet. I was terrified. She wouldn't let me leave the store without tipping her via debit card. I am definitely reporting this place. If you go to the place make sure you have a friend with you. read more

I had an appointment for 3 o clock and was 10 -15 min late due to a protest on the same block causing traffic . they refused to see me and made me wait until 5:30 to be seen .They didn't even allow me to wait inside without even asking if i had a place to wait knowing there was commotion outside but whatever ... I then Waited two hours in the middle of a protest that could have been possibly dangerous just to have an insensitive & painful wax . It was painful and she didn't rlly do much to ease that pain but giggle awkwardly and pat the area kinda hard . On top of the fact that i had to shave after because they left some strays . . I was wary when purchasing two vouchers from LivingSocial due to the lack of reviews here and my general wariness about purchasing vouchers overall (usually shops that are dying for new business)..but I went out on a limb. And boy am I glad. We went for our massages and facials yesterday and the ladies working on us did a phenomenal job. They start with a massage and follow-up with the facial. They had us disrobe and get under towels (no sheets sadface) and we weren't asked if there are problem areas that we'd like for them to work on. The massage starts with a light over the towel strokes. Like another reviewer, I was a bit disappointed but they did start working with aromatherapy oils shortly after. Still, for me, it wasn't as strong as I'd like but that's just my personal preference. To be fair, they had just given massages to another couple (literally minutes before) so maybe they were a bit fatigued (only 3 staff members from what we could tell). The highlight for us was the facial as they were extremely thorough. Extractions were included and they really worked on my boyfriend's nose. We got a mask at the end and my face was super soft, clear of blackheads, and felt so refreshed. No steamer for the pore opening though in case you're wondering. They used alcohol/astringent pads to open them up instead. Overall, it got the job done and I was pleased. 1 star off because it was a bit cold in the room, we only had towels (albeit large) to cover us as opposed to the usual sheets, and the massages were a bit on the weak side (for me...but I could just be one of those who love the pain of a massage) I'm completely okay with no frills massage "spas," especially when it's at a very reasonable price. I just think she took the pore extraction part of the facial a bit too much. I know its a bit uncomfortable usually but it should not hurt, and it did. A lot. Rest of the facial was fine , but when I got home my face was as red as if I had gotten a bad sunburn. And I take very good care of my skin, so that was not pleasant. Had no problem getting a same day appointment at a time that suited me and staff were polite and friendly on phone and when arriving. Spa itself was as expected, small neighbourhood joint but immaculate and clean - nice to see actual partitioned rooms rather than just curtain dividers as is often the case. Massage was fantastic - mostly Swedish with a bit of deep tissue here and there where needed - the Masseuse certainly knew her stuff. Facial was pleasant and had an appropriate level of skin analysis with products tailored to me. Felt super relaxed with glowing skin at the end - well worth the good tip on the full amount rather than the groupon price. Why 4 not 5 - not a huge fan of being pushed to make other purchases. Product and treatment recommendations are fine but I'd rather not ward off so many suggestions and promotions when I'm feeling relaxed after such a nice treatment and just trying to pay my tip. The one thing I didn't like was afterwards when I was paying, they tried to pressure me into purchasing some membership package that I was not interested in. They claim you save money since each subsequent massage turns out a few dollars cheaper but I don't want to pay for them in advance and be forced to be committed to this one place. Basically, I think the last time Tina spaced out, as she forgot to massage the front side of my body entirely. This time when I turned over, after a very good deep tissue Swedish massage, she gave the flip side equal attention to my surprise. The mini facial was very good this time around and I was given a nourishing/hydrating mask though last time I was given a modest peel mask. I called to make and appointment and explore my options, the lady on the phone was very nice and told me I can use the value of the Groupon which was $60. I then made an appointment, as soon as I arrived to the spa, two very friendly ladies and happy to see me were behind the counter. They show me the spa packages and I end it up choosing the "sweet pampering" $65 Anti-stress therapy for 30 minutes and mini facial for 30 minutes. They show me the room and asked me if I wanted water and to used the bathroom before the message and facial. The place was clean and the music phenomenal, I had a fantastic message and a very long facial, definitely longer than 30 minutes. I assumed since we each wanted a massage we would be in two separate rooms but they put us in the same room which was cool since I know even asking to be in the same room in other places is considered a couples massage and costs way more. Staff did not treat us differently and in no way did I feel a 'lesser' customer because I was using groupon, which I have experienced at some other establishments. The massage was good, the masseuse was a little too gentle and kept asking if she was hurting me. I wish there had been an option for a deep tissue massage, but there wasn't one with the groupon. They had great music selection and very comfortable beds and chairs. The facial was just ok, it involved multiple varieties of lotions and pastes being applied to my face. Although it felt nice, my face looked and felt the same after it the facial was finished. One strange this is that when I called to ask about the groupon, they told me not to buy it online. They said to just come in and mention the groupon to receive the same discount, but that I shouldn't purchase the voucher through the groupon website. Had a Groupon voucher for three aromatherapy facials. They actually really get into your pores. I've been to a few places where they barley clean out your pores, and I walk out feeling like all they did was a mask. But over here they really get into it. I see a few reviews saying that their facial was uncomfortable and that it hurt, but I don't mind especially if they're doing a deep clean. Usually it will be uncomfortable if they're getting deep down into your pores, unless you do laser. Good service. read more

My FAVORITE place to get my eyelash perm. I have been getting my lashes permed for more than 10 years, and this is by far my favorite. For $30 you get a light head, body, and foot massage which the perm is happening. You are in a clean, calm, actual spa. Very nice relaxing swedish massage and min facial for $ 60.00 on groupon. Unlike other places, the aromatherapy oil is included in the price ( which was a nice bonus for me). The woman spent an equal amount of time on my back and then asked me to flip over and worked my arms, legs and neck... another bonus. The mini facial was pleasant.. nothing special or amazing.. just pleasant. My skin looks fine and I am satisfied. The place is super clean, but you do get some outside noise from 5ht avenue from time to time. I was in such a relaxed state and focused on the soothing music and massage. I took one star away due to the fact that I was asked to pay the groupon price directly to them and not purchase the groupon voucher and I was still charged tax. I even paid in cash. Went to J & S spa today for the first time. I had the 50 minute microdermabrasion treatment for 40$ (normally $85) with a groupon deal. I called to make an appointment, the lady on the phone told me to pay the groupon price at the store instead of on the site so I wouldn't have to pay tax later on and I agreed. Which I later had to pay tax anyway. When you walk in the place looks nice and quiet. The two lady's who worked there were nice and welcoming. I'm not sure if the air conditioner wasn't working but it was fairly hot inside, I had to ask for a fan to cool me off. The microdermabrasion facial consisted of 15 minutes of the microderm wand working on my face, facial cleansing, a 5 minute face/neck/shoulder massage, and a mask applied last. Indeed I left with a face feeling beautiful and refreshed, but I saw no visible changes in my complexion. For the groupon price it's worth it, but I wouldn't go there again for a facial. read more

I will always choose clean over fancy any day of the week, and J & S Spa gave me a very satisfying experience. I purchased the $60 Groupon for 60 minutes of massage with mini facial, and I would definitely go back. The spa was unassuming and low-frills, but everything seemed pretty clean...including the bathrooms. I was greeted politely when I entered and taken to a nice, though Spartan, massage room. (The room had a second bed, so I might try to talk boyfriend into a couple's massage around Valentine's) There was a space heater in the room, and I appreciated that they had warmed the room in anticipation of my arrival. I was left to get undressed and scoot under the towel. There was some instrumental music playing, but the walls don't hide much sound...so foot steps and conversations were audible during the massage. My masseuse wasn't a big talker, but that's the way I like it. She did however check with me that the pressure was ok, and totally amped it up when I told her she could go harder (even throwing in some good elbow moves) And I appreciate that when I made a little sound (because she was doing a great job on one of my knots) she checked in with me to make sure it didn't hurt. Great massage! I felt very relaxed, and my muscles felt great after my knots were addressed. The mini-facial was nice, stuff was slathered on, wiped off, slathered on again...I'm not sure if facial stuff was chosen just for me...I was just told I was getting the facial now and then it happened....but there was a lovely facial massage which sent me into a blank, relaxed place kinda like sleep (or maybe I dozed a little...it was very Zen) There was a facial mask at the end, and I kinda rested pleasantly. Since it was cold my masseuse very thoughtfully heated up a towel to place under my neck while I waited for the mask. I really liked that. This is more of a 3.5 review. My husband and I went in for a 1 hour facial and 1 hour massage. The massage was average so I think it is priced appropriately at $35/hr. The masseuse did ask me during a few points whether the pressure was fine so I appreciated the communication to ensure I was comfortable. The facial on the other hand was decent but not great. Prior to extractions I always prefer the facialist to use steam to open up the pores but no such luck here. I wasn't told what was being applied and didn't feel much of a difference afterwards so I don't think it was that effective.. Other than that I wouldn't mind going back if I needed a local place for a massage. I doubt I would go back for a facial. read more

I have had many facials in my life and never had to say stop because I have a high pain tolerance but at this place I had to say stop several times. I go at least once every 3-4 weeks, depending on how hectic and crazy work is the day prior. I usually go to Spa Me which is 3 blocks away, but figured i'd give this place a try. Love that this place is 3 blocks away from home, and if I happen to fall in love, it would be perfect when I'm dying for some good rubbing! I called on a Tuesday afternoon and got a same day appointment. Score! I arrived at 4pm and it was empty. The place is clean, quaint and a no frills kind of spa. If you're expecting the whole spa-like experience with dim lights, serene atmosphere and nice decor, this place might not be for you. I was surprised to see that the massage stations are all in separate rooms, none of that curtain/boxed out room that most spas have. My massage therapist, Tina, spoke minimal English but thats A-okay because I speak Cantonese and we communicated just fine. I told her I liked my massages firm and hard. I like to always point that out because most people are afraid to snap my bones since i'm a skinny little thing weighing 94 lb. and 5 ft tall. I was told to disrobe and only leave my panties on. There was a pillow on the end of the table for my feet to be elevated which was surprisingly comfortable and relaxing. Tina asked if the pressure was okay and which body part she should pay attention to. She also told me my lower back was extremely tense and concentrated on that area. I love a massuse that asks and listens! The pressure was just right, Tina really took the time to smooth out the knots on my shoulders and upper back. The mini facial, which does not include extractions, was equally awesome. She used oils to give my face a massage, followed by an exfoliating cleanser and a face mask in the end. She even gave me a mini head/scalp massage that was to die for. I was so comfortable and relaxed during the entire massage that I almost fell asleep, and thats hard to do considering i'm an extremely light sleeper. They asked me if I liked the massage and if I would like to purchase another time for the price I paid on Groupon. I told her heck yeah! The spa is relatively new as they just opened back in 5/2012, the decor are simple and clean, there's a one nail table on the front and few massage chairs in the back room, along w private rooms. Since i went on a off peak hours so i had the place all to myself, the lady who helped me was Shelly, she's very friendly, professional and attentive to my needs, she focused alot of time on my shoulders and upper back as I've mentioned to her that I tend to have tense shoulder. Went for couples massage (have received no other service here). Why did I forget there is a reason individuals work really hard to go to massage school and get a license? This is not a place for a massage that is tailored to your needs or given by someone with an extensive knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. If you are content with the 10 minute massages given in chairs at nail salons, then this is an okay option, but not if you have chronic pain or need for a massage to address particular areas of concern. Maybe I just got someone who normally performed other functions at the salon (in fact, I can confirm that there were some massage techniques used during manicures and shampoos - they are a signature!). One of the few times I could not wait for a massage to just be over! The environment of the spa overall seemed relaxing and as far as I could tell, clean. Wow ...what a great massage I had here last weekend. I bought a voucher from Amazon Local for an Aromatherapy massage and a facial. This place cater to my every need. My muscles feel amazing and the knot in my neck is pretty much gone. This cute small -spa is truly a Gem in good old Brooklyn. It isn't a luxurious and over the top spa ,but it is : clean,simple ,and wonderful. I only give this place 4 stars because my friend got poked with injections during her facial ( the masseuse should have asked my friend for permission before doing that. Please opt out for injections for a facial because they are not necessary. The massage itself was the best I've ever had, and the facial left my face feeling like a baby's face.The staff was very polite and attentive, although my masseuse didn't speak English well, that didn't bother me. The woman I spoke to calmed me down.. had an appt for 1 but showed up at noon to go over 100 photos I had of want to do and no do-- she listened and calmed me down- drew in my natural eyebrows and we decided together before she got out the needle on what we both liked. I had a $128.00 Groupon coupon and she was fine w/ it ( the tattooing is like $340.00. she took her time and had me sit up and look in the mirror.. I am thrilled w/ the results..so are friends and people at work are asking me for the address. Su ( I think she might be the owner) gave me a card for a $100.00 touch-up good for one year.. (as know one knows how each skin reacts to tattooing. The place is clean but unassuming... simple plain but they know their business. no complaints.
