Which generally results in me picking and chipping away at them until I've chewed them off my fingers, due to being so unhappy with the way they look. THIS WAS NOT THAT EXPERIENCE. My experience was wonderful. I was politely greeted. They took their time prepping my tattered hands for the nails, applying the tips and acrylic. They were gentle and meticulous during the application. I was shocked when prior to the application of the top coat they carefully inspected each and every nail to ensure that it looked its best. These are the most natural looking nails I have EVER had done. And I'm proud to say that for the first time ever I am going today to have them filled. That's right...they are so beautiful, I did not chew them off! I would recommend them to anyone who wants quality, and perfection! They are truly artists who take great pain-staking pleasure in their craft and they are MAGNIFICENT at what they do.

However,…read moreafter three visits for three different services (1 keratin, 1 trim, and 1 blowout+ trim) it's now entirely evident to me that Color Me Red is not worth hours of sitting in a chair. I got my first ever keratin treatment by Stylist Potter before an event out of state. By the time I washed my hair, four days later, my hair was almost as curly as it was before the treatment. I called CMR later that day and was able to connect with the stylist, who said she was busy and would call me back. Two days went by before I decided to check-in again. I explained that I was out of town for a month and wasn't expecting a refund or any magic cure. I was also willing to send before and after pictures to clarify exactly how curly my hair was almost immediately after the treatment. Rather, i explained, I called because wanted to see what products I could use (other than the shampoo and conditioner I was up-sold) to preserve my treatment. During this second call I was again met with "I have your number and I will call you back..." That call never came. A $360 expense should have lasted longer than a week. At the very least, some follow-through with customer contact should have been made. Was it inexperience? Or was the stylist uneducated about the product? For reference, I went to a stylist at Transformations in Ithaca who listened to my CMR experience, and understood what procedural error was made based on my description of how the CMR stylist did the treatment. As of today, I've never had any other Keratin treatment last less than 11 months. In other visits to Color Me Red for a "trim" and one blowout with a trim I walked in with shoulder length hair and walked out with a bob I never asked for. I probably should have said something in the moment, but there's always that bit of anxiety as a woman of color especially in a yt salon. During both visits I was told it would be just an inch, yet once I was spun around to look in the mirror I saw a trim of 4 inches or more. It was never brought to my attention that I would need such an extensive cut, especially when I regularly get trims, so my ends aren't split. It's disappointing to feel like someone is entitled to doing whatever they think looks good versus listening to a customers preference for a short trim. Rating 1 star because the stylists are decently friendly... although one does love to rant a little too much about how her adult daughter hates making friends with other women?? Tldr; Color Me Red is not worth your money. There are better high-end salons that have stylists who are actually knowledgeable.

The atmosphere is relaxed and far from being pretentious. As far as my manicurist Krystal's skill, she is so accommodating with scheduling and is really flawless in her application of product for gel nails or dips. As soon as I sat in her chair for my hair trial, I knew I was in good hands. I hadn't had my hair done since my senior prom and every blowout I've ever had disappears in a matter of hours. Needless to say, I was a total newbie to getting styled. I had some vague instructions/inspiration pictures, but Kristin really listened to me and offered her expertise when it was clear I really wasn't sure of my vision. During the trial, she tried out a couple different things and listened to me when I told her to use way more hairspray than she thought was necessary. I expected her to be on my a** for clear instructions for my bridesmaids, but she never pressured me to make decisions I didn't want to and was totally flexible to tailor each girl's style on the day-of without compromising on time. Even when someone in my party went MIA and threw off the timeline, Kristin kept her cool and pivoted to make the most of the time. We went in on a Sunday, so Kristin let us take over her studio so we could hang out together, get dressed, blast music, and eat snacks. She was a gracious host and even let our traveling makeup artists set up shop in her chairs. The space is also super funky and I am elated with how the pictures came out. As for the finished product - I could have cried. I felt like an absolute princess surrounded by a all of my fairy godmothers. My hair was better than I could have imagined because she was not afraid to use her judgement to create something she knew would be beautiful. She also deviated a bit (in the best way) from what we had done at the trial, which told me she was being very thoughtful and not just using muscle memory to play it safe. I had also lost Sherry, who often styled my hair at the same salon. I tried cuts a number of places where I could just stop in w/o an appt. I can't explain how disappointed I was when those cuts took less than 10 minutes over and over again as they trimmed an inch of hair off the bottom and called it done. Long straight hair can still be styled to take advantage of many details and this was exactly what I found again when I found Sherry yesterday at her own salon! She brought out swing and cut for hair and facial characteristics and I walked out feeling like 1 million bucks for not a lot more than I had been paying for drab and lifeless cuts.
