Specials and some good thoughts to consider....

"I said I'd order it again..." my mom said as I asked her if she liked her veggie omelet. Good customer service and quality food. Thanks!

Making our way across Montana and wanted a killer breakfast....we found it! The Grizzly Bearitto was huge and so good. Hubby had the Biscuits & Gravy with eggs and sausage and he almost licked the plate clean. Great fresh coffee too. Owners were so kind and welcoming, the place was adorably decorated and spotless.

Had the same experience as Connie H. Rude hostess that was not accommodating. We did not eat there as her attitude was so off putting.

Uncle Sam's Eatery - Great service, great sammies- so original!

Finally. All the times I've traveled in this area, Uncle Sam's has been closed. Not this time…read more and I'm glad I stopped in. It's tiny, with seating for perhaps 40, but from what I saw they do a crazy busy carry out. Count me in that category. The place is decorated in red, white and blue but not overwhelming so. I rather liked the blue tablecloths with white stars. It was festive but not garish. The entire menu is sandwiches named for former Presidents and other American historical people. Not all, but about half. It's fun. I'm not sure how they picked the ingredients to match the person, maybe they just started with Washington and worked their way down, but the Jimmy Carter peanut butter made sense. So, too, did Ben Franklin and turkey. Anyone can create their own combination, of course, with choice of bread, meat, cheese, and condiments. It's all good. You can get a half or whole sandwich and a side. I went with the Zachary Taylor, a tuna salad. It's been a while, but I still crave that sandwich. One of the best tuna salads I've had in a long time. There was more tuna than mayo and that made it a winner. No mistaking the taste It's a good spot for a sandwich and soup or salad. Or even a dessert. Uncle Sams also has a small breakfast menu and if that's as good as the lunch, then count me in.

There's nothing on either side of it and nothing across the street as far as the eye can see... yet there it is! And it was very nice for breakfast: comfortable, pleasant indoor and outdoor seating; prompt, friendly, low-key service. The brunch menu is not giant but it's definitely adequate: I had the scramble skillet and it was a v nice plate of delicious food. Everyone else was happy with their food as well. Good coffee. And as we sat there, people started showing up from all over in their cherry classic cars and RVs. And, just to complete the jaw-dropping experience, later the same week, Clint Black was going to perform there!! What??! Anyway, if you find urself in Big Timber, this little place is well worth the drive.

The place is comfortable, laid back but professional, and spotless. I wasn't there for breakfast but staff served a very good vanilla latte. Then I had the burger from locally raised beef. Just outstanding quality. Hand cut thick fries were also solid. It is neat to see the locals stop by--clearly everyone appreciates the place. They bake their own desserts too. Attentive, efficient staff. No one is loafing. Just us visitors! Well worth the drive into the middle of nowhere. Can't wait to drop in for breakfast.

One Legged Magpie is truly a gem and an unexpected culinary delight in Red Lodge. I wasn't quite…read moresure what to expect as we walked in, but from the moment we entered, I knew we had stumbled onto something special. The interior was a little on the dark side, but the warm, inviting vibe pulled us in. We navigated our way to the main section, finding two wonderfully comfortable plush blue chairs next to the bar. The small details immediately caught my attention--each table adorned with fresh flowers in charming vases, adding a thoughtful and personal touch. Our server was genuinely sweet and attentive, setting the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. I did notice they have an outdoor patio out back, but the atmosphere inside was too good to pass up. We began with the spring pea salad--an absolute standout--featuring creamy ricotta, crisp snap peas, fresh mint, and pistachios. It was fresh, crunchy, and beautifully balanced. We added a slice of toasted ciabatta bread, topping it with the salad to make our own bruschetta-style bites, which turned it into a perfect little dish. Next came the spice-roasted carrots, which were every bit as flavorful as they were beautiful, followed by the pork belly barbecue with a blueberry barbecue sauce. The sweetness of the sauce paired beautifully with the rich pork belly, creating a dish that was both comforting and elevated. For drinks, I had the Jayne Mansfield--a bright, refreshing, and totally unique cocktail--while my mom enjoyed the Lauren Bacall, which she loved. The restaurant's name comes from a fun and memorable story: the owners were discussing their plans to open the restaurant when they spotted a one-legged magpie. It stuck--and now it's part of the charm of the place. One Legged Magpie delivers on every level: warm atmosphere, thoughtful touches, incredible food, and a sense of place you won't soon forget. If you're in Red Lodge, this is a must-visit spot.
