I met Luke , a 19 year old employee Of this Amazing Transplant of a Custard Cream puff Pastry Shop that its Origins In Osaka, Japan. Being completely authentic I was stopping in to sample Ice Cream. No research on my part until I read what was on the wall of this Charming Pastry Shoppe. My Choice of Strawberry Shortcake was influenced by My Friend Luke. When he shared his name I immediately mentioned Luke 's Gospel in the New Testament God guided me here, 100%. Lucky for me. Luke is planning on attending ASU to study Languages. He is Fluent in Japanese, English and Latin. Should anyone know of another Latin Scholar, Please direct the person to Fashion Commons. What an unexpected , yet wonderful experience.
First time coming to Bears Papa's. Came late in the evening. Chose the S'mores, Oreo Crumble and Ube shells. All with vanilla filling, chocolate filling in the s'mores. I've had eclairs and cream puffs before, but these are a leveled up version. Firstly, much bigger. The cream filling rich and creamy. I think the S'mores was my favorite of the 3. They have so many more flavors to choose from, and you can customize your filling. They have lots of drinks to offer as well. Great spot for a treat! I had never been to Beard Papa's before, and it would have been nice if staff had shared information about the history and background of the shop, and details about their dough and fillings whether it was ingredients, baking process, etc.
I do love Beard Papas but this location was a bit of a bummer. Our cream puff FIVE stars for sure, but we tried one of the cheesecakes and I came out frozen. Had tummy woes the rest of the night. No real service since you just order & pay on a screen. I get the convenience but it's not a cheap dessert so I little service would be nice.
Super fun spot to pop into. Lots of lemonades, teas and bobas. They have a selection of eclairs with cream or ice cream add ins. Very instagramable and fun for kids and teens. Daisy was helping us, super sweet energy.

Recently I discovered this hidden gem! Not sure why it took me so long to try this place, but happy I did! First impressions: the shop is very tidy and quiet, but smelled amazing! Love the fun Japanese theme and flavors to match! Arrived a little over an hour after open on a weekday. There were two staff members in the back working away on prep, one came to the front within a minute of my arrival to assist. I ended up putting in an online order, because there was a 20% off promotion that the store could not key in at the register. If you like the type of desserts they offer, I highly recommend checking out their rewards program as they seem to offer discounts and points regularly online. While there was a good selection of product, some items available to order online were not actually available in store. The online menu does not take into account actual inventory at the store. I really wanted to try the churro and honey butter eclairs, but no such luck unless I wanted to wait. While I'm on the topic of waiting, I must say although the staff are very polite and kind, the service is abnormally and unnecessarily slow. I'm thankful I chose not to wait for the churro and honey butter eclairs, because it took 25 minutes from the staff starting my order to complete my order (with pastries and fillings that were in stock and me being the only customer). I ordered a handful of eclairs including: s'mores with vanilla, matcha with matcha, ube with vanilla, and cookies and cream with vanilla. I also ordered two boba drinks: passionfruit jasmine and classic milk tea. The boba itself was exceptional texture and flavor. I was a little disappointed there was no availability to adjust things like sweetness or dairy type. The shop has a wide selection of flavors, but with almost everything being syrup based the pricing is on the high end. I'd say they run at about a dollar to dollar and a half over most competitors. The drinks were good, but I would have hoped the quality would have matched that of the eclairs for the price. I can't say I'd go out of my way for the boba, especially without an online promotion. I would love to see them use quality ingredients that they could customize in place of syrups, even if at the expense of shrinking the menu. Not sure if this is feasible as this is a franchise and I know they have certain things out of their control. The eclairs were phenomenal and perfect in every way. A crisp light shell stuffed with plenty of delicious filling. I really enjoyed the matcha with matcha filling eclair most, but there wasn't a bad one in the batch. My only hesitation in coming back, is the speed of service.
If you like cream puffs, then this is your spot. If not, you might struggle to find something on this menu. This was my first time in so I opted for a classic shell with vanilla creme. They have a good selection of shell and creme flavor options. I was going to try the Peach flavor as well, but was told they were out of that one. This isn't a place I'd drive out of my way to visit; but if you're shopping in the area, it's a unique sweet bite!
Stumbled upon this place while strolling through the plaza. We got the ube puff and was impressed! The cream was fresh and fragrant. The puff was light and fluffy. Was a nice surprise and willing to try other flavours next time.
We like coming to beard papas for a little treat. We like the fact that we can pick our shell and custard and they have some good boba as well. My favorite to get is the honey butter! The workers are always quick and kind and the shop is cozy and cute. The only thing I'd say negatively is that occasionally we'll get a burnt or hard cream puff. Not enough to turn us away from the place but enough for it to be less enjoyable than usual.
Service was terrible. Stopped in one night and there was one rude male working and he just did not have it together. He yelled at the phone every time it rang like he was angry for the calls. There was one pair in front of us and nobody else in the entire place. We ordered at the kiosk and it literally took him 20-25 min to make our food, which was only 2 puffs. I had to go ask how long it was going to be and he claimed he was making ours but could clearly see he was working on food prep for something else. He finally started working on ours after I asked a second time. The puffs were rock hard. Terrible experience. I won't be back.
Beard Papa's Fresh and Natural Cream Puffs is a Japanese chain of pastry shops. The only location in Arizona is here in Scottsdale at the Scottsdale Quarter. It is located in the outdoor mall area on the ground floor, with plenty of misters near the entrance and the sidewalk patio area. There is parking, but it is difficult to find a spot on the street in the Quarter. There is a free parking garage several steps away from Beard Papa's. This is where I found a spot to park yesterday for the Yelp event. It also provided shade on this hot day. This was my first time here or even hearing about this cute little pastry shop, though my sisters in California have been to the one in Irvine. The owners here also run the shop in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. I had so many questions for the server, Jialu, and she was so patient and friendly explaining how everything worked. Worried that the frosting and cream would be overbearing and artificial tasting like some of the grocery store frosting, I asked if the cream was freshly made. She assured me that the cream was made fresh by them and was very good. I thought that I would be getting a tiny palm-sized cream puff. These cream puffs were very large - the size of a doughnut and filled with cream on site, made to order. I was here for the Yelp event but also orders more eclairs to take home to the family. I knew that everyone at home would love these! I ordered: The Mix 6 Box - Original Shell with Vanilla Filling - Original Shell with Chocolate Filling - Oreo Cookie Crumble Shell with Vanilla Filling - Chocolate Eclair with Chocolate Filling - Green Tea Eclair Shell with Green Tea Filling - Strawberry Eclair with Vanilla Filling I personally prefer these to donuts. I loved the subtlety of the flavors. These were not overly sugared and sweet. The cream fillings were truly delicious and tasted fresh and airy. I think my favorite of the two was the green tea. It really tasted like a bright, grassy, and flowery frosting on the shell and with a cool lightly sweet earthy cream filling. The shells tasted fresh and flaky. They had a good flavor, weight and texture. Next time I am going to order a strawberry eclair with green tea filling. Doesn't that sound delicious? Also, when I checked in on Yelp, a coupon for a free milk tea popped up that I redeemed while there!! There is a freezer case in the seating area that has Japanese ice cream treats. There are a few tables inside and there's also several tables outside along the sidewalk. There is no restroom inside, but there is one in the mall area.
The price for the cream puffs were a bit expensive so we didn't purchase any. We did get their lemonade. Unfortunately they weren't very good. Super watered down and bland. I got popping boba in mine and they were tough and rubbery.
These were so delicious. I got the matcha, cookies and cream, s'mores and captain crunch. All of them were delicious. The store was clean and colorful. I will be back for more in the future.
This store is very clean. We came in when there was nobody else here. In fact, the guy who was running it was in the back somewhere. We weren't really sure how to begin our order, but I found my way to a touch screen computer screen- kiosk sort of deal along the left side of the wall. My little one and I decided to clean them out of their minis. We ordered a dozen, half filled with vanilla custard and half of them filled with chocolate pudding. Dad decided to get a puff with ice cream in the middle. That was good too. Now, if you were looking to order puffs with ice cream in them, you need to pick them from the listing of the cream puffs that they have and just select the ice cream option. So it really is all about picking the shell first. We didn't know. It had to be explained to us. I ordered a honey butter cream puff. I'm really excited to try that one. I have heard good things about them, but have never tried that particular flavor myself. In addition, we ordered a mango lemonade. That was really good. It was so refreshing. read more

Always a fan of the crunchy chocolate puff shell, it's consistently delicious. This was my first time trying the ice cream filling, and it did not disappoint. Still, my all-time favorite remains the boba filling, though sadly they haven't offered it in a while. Service was just okay. Everything is done through a self-serve kiosk, so there's not much staff interaction. We came on a Tuesday night, and the place was packed with young adults, which made the atmosphere a bit louder than usual. read more

Beard Papa's definitely has some of the best cream puffs in the country! I've been their fan for over a decade and had their cream puffs in many cities. Those at the Scottsdale location are no different. The shells always taste fresh, even late in the day. The filling is creamy yet light, and not too sweet. Green tea filling is my go-to. Caution: You will make a mess when you eat. These puffs explode whenever it pleases and do not care about you or the white shirt you just bought. Please carry lots of napkins and hope for the best. read more
My friend has been raving about Beard Papa's having the best cream puff for months to me. I decided to give it a try since I was in the area. I wanted the Vietnamese coffee eclair, but that wasn't available, so I went for the churro eclair with vanilla filling. I have to say I'm glad I ordered only one. The filling is really sweet, and I can't imagine eating two without going into a diabetic coma. The churro shell was flaky and soft. It wasn't too sweet, so it went nicely with the filling. The staff was really great, she gave me recommendations. This store is surrounded by tons of retail stores, so stopping for a sweet treat is worth it. read more

Finally was able to try this place after a random craving hit while we were in the area. We decided to try an assortment of items to sample some of the different options. We got: - Oreo shell with chocolate filling - Eclair shell with vanilla filling - Crispy Almond shell with vanilla filling - Original shell with vanilla filling - Chocolate fondant Overall, I was a fan of everything besides the chocolate fondant (mini lava type of cake). I would definitely stick to their signature cream puffs. My favorite was the eclair shell with vanilla filling, but the other options were still good. I liked the chocolate filling much more than I anticipated. If I was in the mood and in the area I would definitely return, but don't know that I would necessarily go out of my way for it. read more

We were at Scottsdale quarter walking around and decided to make a stop in. They didn't have the strawberry or Oreo shell so we got a honey and butter with chocolate filling and a cinnamon sugar/churro shell with chocolate. The place is small and cute and service was friendly. Our shells were filled upon order and we enjoyed on their patio seating. The shells have a perfect eclair shell. The filling was creamy and sweet and I definitely preferred the vanilla over the chocolate. I want to go back and hopefully try the strawberry and Oreo shells. We will be back soon! read more

The customer service is absolutely terrible. The worker was taking her sweet time restocking the eclairs while there was a line of people waiting. She was also in the back doing god knows what and we waited like almost 20 minutes just to order. Never coming back as long as they fix their workers attitudes. Also, the drink wasn't even good, it just taste like milk. read more

I've loved Beard Papa's ever since I had it for the first time as a teenager in San Francisco! I was thrilled that they opened up a location in Arizona. I went with friends on Beard Papa's birthday (August 14) and they had a buy 5, get 1 free special. Given that there was a special going on, it took awhile for my and my friends' dozen cream puffs to come out, and the staff were preparing fresh batches of icings and fillings at the time. The staff members were so nice about it, so it didn't bother us! I got a strawberry cream puff filled with matcha (my FAVE combo), an ube cream puff filled with chocolate, and a honey butter cream puff filled with vanilla. All of the fillings were so creamy and decadent! The chocolate and vanilla were sweet but not overwhelmingly sweet, and the matcha had the perfect slightly bitter tea taste to it (but lowkey that's how you know they're not skimping on the matcha, and they're doing it right). My only suggestion would be to slightly lessen the amount of sugar in the icing shells for the cream puffs. The ube icing shell was a lot more sweet than I expected for an authentic ube taste (and maybe I'm picky cause I'm Filipina), so it was a bit too sweet when combined with the chocolate filling. Overall, I absolutely enjoyed these cream puffs and I will definitely be back! read more
Protip: Go a little before closing, they might give you the last 1-2 for free, so they can close up shop, but not too close because they might have run out and closed early. Highlights: I'm not even into cream puffs, but I enjoy Beard Papas. It's a simple concept, but very delicious and done right. Every combination tastes great and it's light enough for everyone to enjoy. Lowlights: It's a bit expensive especially since they are so light, I could eat an entire box by myself. The filling is a bit much and I wouldn't mind the option to do less filling. Also, I have a love hate relationship with the rotating flavor, because I really wanted to try the ube only to find out it was replaced by cookies and scream for Halloween. read more

Fantastic! Great little sweet spot. I was thoroughly surprised at how good this was. First you pick your shell, which is this flaky, light, cream puff pastry; I chose the Churro shell. Next you pick your filling, either a variety of custards, or you can make an ice cream sandwich; I chose the chocolate custard. I was expecting like a Boston cream type filling, but it was more like a chilled, thin, chocolate pudding. The combination was really delicious. It wasn't too sweet, the pastry wasn't greasy, it was crispy and had just the right amount of sweetness. It was the perfect sized treat if you are just wanting a little something sweet. I will definitely go back and try other flavor combinations. Check it out! read more

This was my first time visiting this establishment. I went on a Saturday night and ordered the original pack which included three vanilla filled and three chocolate filled puffs. The shells were flaky and the filling was smooth and creamy. The cost of the 6 pack was reasonable at around $28. They have several varieties of shells. The fillings are vanilla, green tea, and chocolate. They have a couple tables inside and outside. Overall, I would recommend this place. read more

It's funny how food memories can evoke such feelings of happiness. Beard Papa for me makes me remember happy times spent in San Francisco exploring the City by the Bay, so I was thrilled to see Beard Papa opened here. Plain and simple, it's create-your-own cream puffs. Choose your shell and filling, then enjoy. Man, do they make an excellent cream puff! I got the Oreo Cookie Crumble shell with vanilla cream, and it was decadent. I'd wanted the Chocolate Eclair shell and was quite sad when the lady before me bought the last one. But it was my good fortune, because the Oreo one was amazing! It might be good with chocolate cream as well. My kids had the churro shell (which they loved) but I think it might be sugar overload. I was so pleased with my Beard Papa, I didn't even get my customary photo. I'm quite happy that the state of Arizona was graced with a Beard Papa. read more

I stumbled upon this cute little cream puff shop walking to the parking garage at kierland commons .. I had seen it on social media prior to spotting and knew with no line outside I'd better stop and try one. I ordered the chocolate with vanilla filling .. which was amazing .. crusty crunchy exterior dipped in chocolate .. cold creamy filling inside. And I had an original with creamy green tea filling, they were both equally delicious. The wait was 20 min from my receipt time to actually having my number called. Longer then I expected, but worth it. I wish they offered drinks because a coffee drink would've made this a perfect snack time option. Check them out if you're in the neighborhood.. read more
They opened this location about a month ago, but the lines were so long that I decided to wait a few weeks. I am so glad they had a great opening. It was worth the wait. You know how you can get some cream puffs that are barely filled with cream? It is mostly air! Well, that isn't how they do it here. These babies were filled to the edges with cream. You can mix match your puffs and cream, so we did an assortment. My favorite is a plain cream puff loaded with matcha!! So delicious! The Crispy Almond shell stuffed with vanilla cream was a close second. Was really disappointed in the creme brulee - ours was not "bruleed" at all - which is the whole point of getting one! No worries - won't keep me from going back. Now that the lines have died down - go give them a try - I think it is worth it. read more

The cream puffs here were a delight even though they were a bit messy to eat! We tried the honey butter with strawberry filling and original with matcha filling. The honey butter exterior was delicious. Strawberry filling was pleasant as well, not overly sweet or anything. The original exterior was too plain - would not recommend. But the matcha filling seemed authentic; the green tea notes really stood out. It was much less sweet and subdued than the strawberry filling though. Beard Papas is good. Nice and light dessert. They are huge cream puffs that you can mix and match the shells with the filling. Some are just bland BUT I love their honey shell with vanilla or chocolate filling. It's delicious! I also love that they have a rotating flavor. I've been multiple times and I've gotten ube, creme brûlée, and bananas foster. On the last 2, they actually flambé it for you! The downside is that they're expensive! Almost $5 per cream puff. It is a big portion though! Tip: They run out towards the end of the night so make sure you get in early to get some of the best-selling flavors! read more
Beard Papa Grand Opening week, did not want to wait in the reported 2 hour lines so went the Tuesday @ 3:30 pm after the Friday Grand Opening. No lines, went right up to the cashier and ordered a dozen creme puffs, after tip, total bill was $60.39. Good size shell, the size of a baseball. Alot of the shells that are dipped were not available, lots of people waiting even though you can walk up and order. I'll give them a mulligan for being a new establishment, they are still trying to figure out their efficiency. Order 3 - Original Shell with vanilla, classic and can't go wrong. Ordered 3 - Strawberry Shell with vanilla filling, definitely a winner. Ordered 3 - Chocolate Eclair Shell with vanilla filling, another winner. Ordered 3 - Original Shell with chocolate filling, bingo! I prefer the vanilla filling because that is the classic creme puffs. Work out the kinks in faster service and this place will be a winner, also the price is a little steep, 12 creme puffs for $60, $5 a creme puff is getting up there. ALERT! New treat spot in town! Beard papas is a Japanese cream puff shop in Scottsdale Quarter. They are grab and go and have some out door seating, like 3-4 tables. The staff is very friendly and you can see them baking and proofing the pate a choux dough! For the shells they have ones covered in chocolate, strawberry, matcha, honey almond, or plain. Then for the cream filling they have chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar boba, and matcha. Don't let the size of the cream puffs scare you! They are light and honestly I could have eaten three! read more
Disappointed. We ordered the creme brûlée and strawberry with vanilla filling. Both had no taste, bland is the only way to describe both of them I could not even taste the strawberry when I picked off a piece of strawberry coating off the top The choux pastry was excellent. It had a solid crunch when I bite into it. The pastry was not soggy after we took it home to eat. read more

Where is it located? I parked my car in the garage and literally walked around looked for it and couldn't find it. Google maps was not helpful
If you're at the corner of South St. and 72nd Pl. you should be able to see it on the north side of the road, next to Pressed juice bar. It's just a small store front.
