The Bear Fence team did an outstanding job on the glass panel and wrought iron fencing in my backyard. The quote was very competitive and Chris was very patient with us as we changed the design and material selections several times. The Bear Team delivered everything on-time per our schedule. The 120 feet of glass looks beautiful around our new pool, maintains our canyon view, and cuts down signficantly on the nearby highway traffic noise. The white wrought iron fence is powder coated, so it should stand up to the sun, rain and salt (near the ocean) for a long time. Have you looked down to see all the one-stars? This company is a hit or miss. For us, it was a colossal miss. . Not the company they used to be..... I would never use this company again and don't recommend them to anybody. The short story is we had them build a simple, cedar, 60 ft fence. Easy.... Nope... First they used green wood. They only used 2 stringers instead of 3. So whadda ya think happened? The boards warped... I got a seriously wonky fence. OK.. I asked if they would fix and add a 3rd stringer. Jeff said they would like to just replace the warped boards. OoooK... guess what, they are using green not dried wood again and yup, the boards are warping and wonky. I have again asked if they would do the job right. Put the stringer in. And, as only half the fence can be seen, I am only asking for 30 ft of a 60ft fence to be redone. Crickets.... What gets me is they are supposed to be the fence company... They know they are using green wood. They know green wood warps... Why would they not give me an option for a 3rd stringer? I would have been happy to pay for it. I believe because THEY built this wonky fence, they should fix. I spent $3800 for this fence at only 60ft. Premium price. Unprofessional because they aren't answering phone calls or emails. They came out and did a quote for a fence and after asking for some more info they stopped responding to email. We called and left a voicemail and tried reaching them several times with no response. Tried hiring them for the job but they are MIA. This company installed a vinyl fence for me a few years ago. I selected them over several other bids. The installation went well, but a few months later, there were gaps forming in the fence. I asked to have them replaced but was told that the vinyl color (brown) I had was out of stock due to supply chain issues. Took 6 weeks to get someone out to look at the job. The guy seemed nice and competent. Told me he would have a written estimate emailed to me the next day. He never got back to me. Called the office, and they apparently had to twist his arm to provide the estimate. We used Bear Fence in the past with no problems, but now their customer service SUCKS! Maybe there was an owner change? Anyways, they are going downhill FAST and there is no stopping them. I'll be amazed if they are still in business at the end of this year. I called the office 2 different times to try to get someone out here to give us an estimate. The first time I called in I was told the owner would call me back to set up an appointment. Nobody called me back in a week. I called the office again a second time and I was told the owner himself was in charge of my neighborhood area and he would come out to give me an estimate on so and so day. Turns out someone else, Jeremy, comes out to give me an estimate instead of the owner I was expecting. Okay, fine with me because someone at least came out. I arrive home 7 minutes late and Jeremy was already gone and there was nobody in sight. He must have gotten to my home early. I gave him a call to ask him when I should be receiving the estimate from him. He told me he'll send it by email. One week later and still no estimate. I call the office and the office sends me the estimate by the next day. The estimate we received for replacing our wooden gate was $800+. Really!? The material doesn't even cost that much! After attempting to communicate with Jeremy by phone, email, and text message about different prices for either a 5' high gate and a 6' high gate, I simply gave up. I asked the office if I could have someone else handle my project, but they still put me with Jeremy. It should not be so much work for me to try to pay people. Here is my frustrated email to Jeremy. I don't usually get angry, but I got to my boiling point with him: "Hello Jeremy, I got your message on my answering machine. You mentioned replying back to my email for August 28th on August 29th, but I have not seen any emails from you in my inbox, spam folder, or trash. I do not believe you replied to my email at all. Phone calls don't seem to work because you're driving. Text messages don't work because the office still needed my email after I text messaged it to you. Text message also doesn't work because I told you I need an estimate for a 6' gate and I still get an estimate for a 5' gate. Emails don't work because your emails never make it to me. After 3 weeks I still don't know how much it will cost for my gate to be replaced. At this rate I won't even get the right estimate by the end of the year. Please get someone else in charge of this project because it doesn't seem like you are taking us very seriously. As a life long resident of San Diego I always thought when and if the time came I would be able to utilize Bear for any fencing needs that may arise...WRONG! I always like to get at least 2-3 bids on any home remodeling project...Last night I emailed Alpine Fence and first this morning I got a call back...Bear's website had no such option so I called them myself this morning after scheduling my appointment with Alpine...I really wanted Bear to do the job...NOT anymore... I am astounded as to how rude the woman who answered the phone was...I am also still wondering how they get ANY business operating in the fashion that they do...I advised the woman that I was interested in scheduling an appointment for an estimate and after asking me several questions she reveals that she is personally UNABLE to schedule any appointments...Like what is the point of your position there then?! She went on to explain that the men who do the installs schedule the appointments themselves however none of them were available as they were all "out in the field"...She asked if she could transfer me to one of their voice mails...I forget the name she mentioned...but I mean how does that even work out...Do they take turns on calls...Does she throw all the calls to her favorite guy...It sounded so shady...She sounded so shady and after coming home and reading all of these reviews there seems to be an ongoing theme here... The O.B. Alley Jawas kept stealing, and dumping stuff in the back of my property that is on the alley. I needed a strong fence quick, before someone setup a hobo camp in my back yard. But this was no ordinary fence, I wanted a 8' wood fence, with a 19' section that rolled open. I called Bear Fence, and two other local fence contractors. The two other contractors told me how difficult the 19" rolling gate would be, and would require extra effort and cost. Bear fence, however, told me 'no problem' and submitted a bid that was HALF the price of the highest contractor, and at least $1000 less than the other. I went with Bear, hoping the quality would be decent. Installation was pretty smooth. They showed up on the scheduled day (about :45 min late, but no biggie) and got right to work. The initial estimate was a 'one day job'. But by the end of day 1, there was still work to do, so they promised to be back the following day by 11:00. I came home from work on day 2, and they were finished, and cleaning up. The fence is solid, exacitally what I wanted, and seems well built, at a reasonable price. The latch could be a little better, but I can easily replace that myself, with the money I saved going with Bear. read more

However, after I received an estimate for my fencing project, I could never get in touch with them by phone or email. After a couple weeks I gave up, and went with a competitor. My experience with the competitor turned out to be significantly better, as the competitor took the time to provide creative suggestions/solutions at the time of the estimate and had great communication by both phone and email throughout the rest of the process. read more

I only gave this one star because no stars wasn't an option. Jeff installed a fence and gate on the side of my house in 2015. Three years later and I'm still having continuous issues with the gate not latching. Over the last three years, I've had him and/or his workers at my house replacing fence posts, adding additional screws, etc but to no avail. I spent $1,450 on a fence with a gate that won't close and presents a safety issue (dog can't be secured in the yard with a non-closing gate). Complete waste of time and money for something that should have been a no-brainer - a working gate from a fence company. Disappointment and frustration don't begin to describe how I feel about this colossal waste of money. It's been a few weeks since I left a message asking someone to call me back. Crickets. Sooooooo.....I hired another company to build me a new gate that actually works. The installer was shocked that the fence posts weren't set in concrete and that the concrete Bear did pour was not even sunk in the ground. So, as with most of my reviews, I have had multiple business transactions with Jeff at Bear Fence prior to my review. We had vinyl fences installed and they look and function amazing! All I can say is that this business has their act together big time! Let's start with Jeff. He is a very nice guy and a straight shooter. He is professional, pleasant and responsive. He goes out of his way to make sure you understand what the job entails and his quotes are right on. I didn't pay 1 cent more that he quoted me on any of our transactions. His quotes also beat his competitors prices and for a superior product (industry leading Kroy Fencing). He happily works with your neighbors if it's a shared fence and has a terrific attitude! He also personally came out to inspect the work that was done ensure that it was done correctly and we were satisfied! No wonder I see so many Bear Fence signs all over the city! Now to his crews. I have had multiple crews to my property and they all were professional, informative, and clearly want every aspect of the installation to be to your specifications. If they encountered any sort of issue, they crew chief would come and discuss it with me and explain all the possible options. I mean, these guys paid attention to every detail and can articulate each and every way to mitigate an issue. I am very impressed with this kind of communication! The crews were friendly, considerate and very polite to my wife and kids. Also, these guys are not messing around. 100% busting their buts 100% of the time they were completing my fences. I needed new gates and some fencing around my pool. Our contractor recommended Bear Fence. He did warn that they can be a bit flakey. We had A rep from Bear (I think his name was Jim or Jeff) come measure. He said he'd get back to us promptly with a quote for the work. When a week went by without any contact from him, my wife called and left him a message. Another week went by and I called Bear fence directly after Jeff/Jim failed to return my call. Recently, we purchased a home with what should have been a four foot cinder block wall on the back property line. From a neighbor, I learned that CalTrans eventually built up the area on the other side, to where a sidewalk was almost level with the top of the wall. For privacy reasons, we decided to have a fence built on top of the wall. After several estimates, I awarded the job to Bear Fence. Jeremy came out within a couple of days to take actual measurements and firm up the bid. In my opinion, his price was quite fair. Just as important, Jeremy was willing to work with my schedule. In the interest of good looks (see pictures of the partially completed installation) and low maintenance, I decided to go with vinyl, which Jeremy said has a lifetime warranty with normal wear. On the installation date, Juan and Miguel arrived on time. They did a wonderful job. Even one of my neighbors commented on how nice the fence looks. The notch that they cut on the wall was clean. The fence was laid straight. After they were done installing the fence, they left the area totally clean. They even went along the fence removing any obvious marks. I strongly recommend Bear Fence. Bear Fence put a very fine wood fence all around the back yard years ago. I needed only the two gates replaced on both sides of the front of the house. Jeremy Blackburn came out for a free consult. Very professional and courteous in the in person. Said he would send me a quote in 2 days. Never heard from him again. Sent an email, no response. Left a voice message saying if the job is too small, can you recommend another company, no response. Called a spoke with the front desk lady who talks so fast, you can't understand a word she says. She said I'll have him call you right back, never heard from him. I get it that the small job was probably not worth it to such a big company, I get that, but very unprofessional. Jeremy was nice to work with, communication could have been a little quicker on proposal but that being sad I know fence companies are sooo busy right now so not complaining. He also messaged me with updates/confirmation for instal. The instal team can I just say how happy I was the way we started the project. The lead guy wanted to walk the backyard with me and review what we were doing before we started. Their team was here everyday on time and let us know where they ended for the day and what they were going to do the next day. They also always left the site clean when they left for the day. They came and double checked a few things with me during installation which I LOVE, they did so good at making sure everything was level and giving different options to how we could have things done.
