I hired them to install 2 electric meters. I paid them @2780, only to find out that the job had not been complete. They came back to me to say that PGE said their job was not approved - Bear's Service Manager, Mark, then blamed us, saying that we should have known based on a conversation we had with PGE 2 years prior. We hired Bear to pull permits and work with PGE to get the job done. Mark then suggested we install a solar light to "avoid" PGE and took no further responsibliity for the failed project, saying he put "hours" into it already. Only after filing a complaint with the BBB, did Mark reach out, asking me to reach out to PGE because he wasn't having any luck (he did not acknowledge the complaint). Very unprofessional. Pro: got an appointment the next day. Fixed the issue within the hour. Con: I Would of gave 5 stars except we were quoted $150/hour on the phone for "local rate" they tried to charge us out of town rate (when finished) and then on top of that extra for him having a 2nd guy with him which we were not told would be happening let alone being charged extra for him to be there to assist when he was not needed (in my opinion) The job was done in 45 minutes but charged $225 for an hour when all said and done. Husband called the office to asked why about paying more than quoted but didn't get any clear answers back. read more

Bear revived my new homes electrical service earlier in 2014, this was a nightmare as the service manager promised it would be a 2 day job, instead it stretched into a 2 week job. They kept sending out different guys who had to start over and tried to figure stuff out. Eventually they did get it done but not with the materials promised. They gave me a cost for replacing outlets with individual GFCI's but when they were completed they just used a few in the service panel, guess that saved them some money off my bid. I've consulted with a second electrician prior to performing the rest of my remodel and they commented that I have one of the 'cheap' boxes, not that it doesn't work or do the job it is intended to do but it is about not anything above service grade. They replaced my service in March, because of a new roof gable I needed the service moved over two feet. I called Bear and was told that Dave was gone, Mark was now in charge. I explained what I needed and they said that they could get guys out there on Wednesday, which was pretty quick. Now all the experience I have with subcontractors is they look at the issue and they give you a quote for what it is going to cost, or at least they call and get approval before moving forward. Nope, not Bear... Apparently they just do work and charge you. It took two electricians 4 hours to move the riser conduit through a different hole in the roof and reconnect the service. I know that it is dangerous work working with live wires and that is why there were two guys there, but come on, disconnecting two wires, drilling a hole moving a riser and gluing in new support wires? two guys, four hours? Trained professionals. I called and talked with Mark just now and explained that I was shocked at the cost and if I would have known what they wanted to charge I would have looked around for other options before scheduling them. He straight up told me that they were too busy and they don't call for authorization. There are too many other numbers in the book that I would ever do business with this business ever again. Just so it is clear what they did... There was a charge for $31,57 worth of materials, a $122.08 electrical permit and $478 in labor. So that is $478 to drill a hole, unhook a few live wires, and install two guidelines, one of which was loose and dangling. read more

Bear Electric was a referral from our HVAC company, and I can understand why they like to work with them. We needed a new outlet for a range installation- a new neutral had to be pulled and a 50-amp breaker installed. The electrician arrived on time and was so nice. It was not an easy job- a 50 yr old house with a crawlspace, but he rose to the task. In any case, the job was beautifully done and the range was installed today. We've used Bear for multiple electrical projects. They are very courteous, watching to keep the doors to the stairs closed to protect my young child and dog. They stick to their bid. Also, they've spent extra time in our house hunting down electrical problems or hazards not within the scope of their work! Very appreciative. They found a junction box concealed by plaster in our ceiling and somehow only cut the plaster surrounding the junction box then connected a light and light switch for me. Had them install an outlet for a newer washer and dryer, everything was going smooth until they accidently went through the ceiling drywall when attempting to run wire. It took a while and little nudging, but they took care of everything including patching, fixing the damaged attic access hatch, painting, and even patched the screws that popped out when fixing the drywall. Due to the incident they knocked off some of the cost of the original electrical work and cleaned up around everywhere they worked. Very professional and highly recommended. read more

My electrical issues often have a common cause and to make sure I didn't waste money they talked me through a bunch of steps without making me feel dumb. After a few e-mails to clarify details and rough cost - we agreed on a date and time window for a technician to come out. Mike was on time and very professional. He was patient while my wife made up her mind on placement and worked quickly once the decision had been made. The work wasn't easy - he was swimming through an attic full of blown-in insulation and working on a lathe and plaster wall - but he finished earlier than expected and our cost was less than we were quoted.
